The black Mido Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 Limited Edition is reference M026.807.33.051.00, a 1,961-piece release introduced in 2024. Its black PVD case and dial frame the collection’s bright, vintage-style decompression scale; the package reportedly includes three straps. The scale is an indicative historical feature, not a replacement for modern dive rules or instruments.

What is the black Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 LE?

It is the black PVD version of Mido’s Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961, a modern interpretation of the brand’s decompression-scale design. Fratello identified the black watch as reference M026.807.33.051.00 and reported that production is limited to 1,961 pieces. The model was introduced in 2024. Fratello’s 2024 introduction is the source for the black edition’s reference and specifications.

Do not confuse it with the silvered-white dial and turquoise bezel edition shown on Mido’s US product page. That is a different colorway with a different reported strap package, despite sharing some basic family specifications.

Which straps come with the black edition?

Fratello’s 2024 report lists three included options, each 21 mm wide and fitted with quick-release spring bars:

  • Black PVD Milanese mesh bracelet
  • Blue Tropic-style rubber strap
  • Black calfskin strap with stitching echoing the dial colors

A 2024 retailer newsletter also describes this strap set. The retailer newsletter report is a secondary account; check the exact watch and package with a seller before purchase. Strap width alone does not establish that a third-party strap will attach or fit properly.

What does the colorful decompression scale mean?

Mido’s manual describes four colored depth bands: yellow for 25–29 m (80–94 ft), green for 30–34 m (95–109 ft), pink for 35–39 m (110–129 ft), and blue for 40–44 m (130–144 ft). It explains how the historical indicative times and bezel are read. Mido’s 2020 manual also makes the critical limitation explicit: “This decompression scale is indicative; under no circumstances is it intended to replace modern diving rules and instruments.”

That warning belongs to the practical interpretation of the dial: the scale is a historical design feature, not dive-planning guidance. Use appropriate modern dive instruments and procedures rather than relying on the watch’s colored rings.

How does it differ from the silver-and-turquoise edition?

Mido’s US release page describes the silvered-white dial and turquoise bezel model, not the black PVD watch. Both are presented as 1,961-piece editions and share a 40.5 mm case, 200 m water resistance and Caliber 80 with up to 80 hours’ autonomy. Their visible finish and strap packages differ:

Detail Black edition Silver-and-turquoise edition
Reference M026.807.33.051.00 (Fratello, 2024) M026.807.11.041.00 (Mido US product page)
Dial and bezel Black dial; matte black aluminum bezel insert Silvered-white dial; turquoise bezel, as shown on Mido’s US product page
Case finish Black PVD-treated stainless steel Stainless steel, as shown on Mido’s US product page
Reported strap package Black PVD mesh, blue Tropic-style rubber and black calfskin (Fratello, 2024) Braided steel, patinated leather and turquoise fabric (Mido US product page)
Price evidence €1,620 reported by Fratello on August 21, 2024; not a current quote Not stated on the cited Mido US product page

The black model’s listed dimensions, movement details and price come from Fratello’s 2024 article; Mido’s US page supplies family and specification context for the distinct turquoise colorway, so its strap details should not be attributed to the black watch.

Price and availability

Fratello reported a €1,620 price for the black reference when it published its introduction on August 21, 2024. That dated figure does not establish today’s price, current stock, or the condition and authenticity of a resale listing. When checking a listing, match the reference M026.807.33.051.00 and confirm that the photos show the black PVD version and the package being offered.
