It is now discontinued: MING says the edition is sold out, deliveries are complete, and it will not be produced again.
What is the MING 29.01 Midnight?
Introduced on 14 May 2025, the Midnight is the dark execution of MING’s 29.01 Worldtimer, a model family first introduced in 2023. Its defining contrast is between a black-coated case and a layered sapphire display, with restrained rose-gold movement details visible through the back. MING’s official archive records the watch as a limited edition of 25 pieces and confirms it will not be made again.
The design was framed in deliberately theatrical language. In Fratello’s hands-on article, author Balazs Ferenczi quoted MING’s brand copy describing “covert night missions” and “international persons of mystery.” That is playful positioning, rather than a claim about the watch’s performance.
How does the world-time display work?
The watch shows local hours and minutes alongside a 24-hour world-time indication. A metallic disc bearing the 24-hour scale rotates beneath a fixed city ring. That ring is arranged across two levels of sapphire, creating a layered display rather than a conventional flat printed dial. MING’s archive describes the world-time function; launch accounts from Hodinkee and Monochrome also explain the rotating-disc arrangement.

The 24-hour numerals are luminous orange, while the hands and other dial markings use HyCeram ceramic with Super-LumiNova X1, according to MING’s specifications. The architecture puts the rotating time scale and fixed city references in the same compact visual system; it should not be confused with a display in which the city ring itself rotates.
What are the case and dial specifications?
The case is Grade 5 titanium with a black DLC coating. It measures 40 mm in diameter and 11.8 mm thick, with a 22 mm lug width and 50 m water resistance, according to MING’s product archive. A deep box sapphire crystal doubles as the bezel, giving the watch its bezel-less appearance. The case also uses MING’s openworked flying-blade lugs.

The original configuration paired it with a black moulded FKM rubber strap and DLC-coated buckle. MING lists curved quick-release bars and an additional strap of the customer’s choice as part of that configuration. Although the stated width is 22 mm, that dimension alone does not establish compatibility with ordinary replacement straps: the curved bars and case attachment are specific design considerations.
What movement is inside the 29.01 Midnight?
The automatic Schwarz-Etienne for MING Cal. ASE 222 is a bespoke micro-rotor movement. MING lists 31 jewels, adjustment to five positions, a 5.6 mm movement thickness and approximately 86 hours of power reserve. Its bidirectionally winding micro-rotor allows automatic winding without the conventional full-size rotor.

Further details in MING’s specifications include a skeletonized barrel, 5N rose-gold-coated bridges and diamond-cut anglage. These finishing and construction details are visible through the caseback; they are specifications, not a claim of independent testing or comparative performance.

No new production is planned. MING’s archive says all deliveries are complete and the 25-piece edition is sold out. The archive is therefore a reference record, not an indication that MING is taking orders.

The launch price reported by Fratello and Monochrome in 2025 was CHF 22,000 excluding taxes. That is historical launch pricing, not a current asking price. Any example offered now would be a retailer’s remaining stock or a secondary-market watch; verify the specific listing’s availability, price, authenticity, condition, provenance and warranty status before relying on it.

What to check before buying a pre-owned example
- Confirm identity and provenance: check that the listing is for the 29.01 Midnight, and ask for documentation that supports the watch’s history.
- Inspect condition and completeness: establish the condition of the black DLC coating, sapphire components, strap and buckle, and determine which original accessories are included.
- Verify the offer directly: confirm the seller has the watch, clarify warranty coverage and return terms, and compare the asking price with current, verifiable offers rather than the 2025 launch price.
- Do not assume strap fit: MING lists a 22 mm width, but the curved quick-release bars and proprietary case arrangement mean a generic strap should not be treated as compatible without confirmation.
