The MING 57.09 Secret Honey and MING 27.02 take opposite approaches to an independent watch. The 57.09 is the larger, thicker and more mechanically animated option: a 40 mm Grade 5 titanium watch with three rotating sapphire time disks, automatic winding and 100 m water resistance. The 27.02 is a 38 mm, 6.9 mm-thick stainless-steel dress watch with a hand-wound movement, layered sapphire and guilloché, and no luminous material.
That makes the choice straightforward in principle. Choose the 57.09 if you want visible motion, stronger low-light legibility, greater water resistance and a contemporary wrist presence. Choose the 27.02 if thinness, formal proportions, hand-winding and intricate static finishing matter more than lume or display animation.

How much bigger is the 57.09 than the 27.02?
The 57.09 measures 40 mm across, compared with 38 mm for the 27.02. That is a 2 mm increase in stated diameter, or roughly 5.3% more across the case. On the wrist, the difference is visible but not extreme: both remain within the modern mid-size range rather than moving into oversized-watch territory.
Thickness is the more dramatic difference
The 57.09 is 10.17 mm thick. The 27.02 is 6.9 mm thick, making it 3.27 mm thinner. Relative to the 27.02, the 57.09 is about 47% thicker. That change affects how each watch sits under a cuff, how much the bezel and crystal catch light from the side, and how present the watch feels during everyday wear.
The 27.02’s 6.9 mm profile is the defining ergonomic advantage. It is shaped for a discreet, formal appearance and should slide beneath a shirt cuff more naturally than the 57.09. The 57.09’s 10.17 mm height is still moderate for a watch with a three-disk display and an automatic movement, but it gives the case a more substantial modern profile.
Lugs and wrist footprint
The 57.09 has a published 47.8 mm lug-to-lug measurement and 20 mm lug width. The 27.02 also uses a 20 mm lug width, but the cited MING archive does not state a lug-to-lug number. That means strap width is directly comparable, while the exact end-to-end wrist footprint cannot be calculated from the published specifications.
The visual treatment also changes the way the dimensions read. The 57.09 uses triple-stepped, multicolor-finished lugs that reinforce its technical, layered character. The 27.02 uses flying-blade lugs on a thin case; their open, sculptural shape reduces the visual mass of the steel and contributes to the dress-watch impression.
Which size works better?
- Choose the 27.02 for compact formality: its 38 mm diameter and 6.9 mm thickness prioritize discretion, especially with tailored clothing.
- Choose the 57.09 for stronger wrist presence: the 40 mm diameter, 47.8 mm lug-to-lug length and deeper case make the watch easier to notice as an object.
- Do not judge only by diameter: the 3.27 mm thickness gap has a greater effect on cuff clearance and side profile than the 2 mm diameter gap.
Movement comparison: automatic convenience versus hand-wound character
Inside the 57.09 Secret Honey
The 57.09 uses an automatic Sellita movement identified as MING 330.M2. It has 25 jewels, beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), and stores approximately 50 hours of power. The movement is adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and five positions, according to the published product specification.
Automatic winding means the rotor can replenish the mainspring while the watch is worn. In practical terms, that makes the 57.09 the easier daily wearer for someone who wants to put it on and have it running without a regular winding routine. The approximately 50-hour reserve also gives it a little more running time off the wrist than the 27.02.
The movement’s job is not limited to driving conventional hands. It powers three sapphire disks that rotate at different rates, so the mechanism must keep the 24-hour, 12-hour and 60-minute indications synchronized as they turn through the day.
Inside the 27.02
The 27.02 uses the hand-wound MING 7001.M1, a heavily modified ETA 7001. MING replaced the standard architecture’s bridges and baseplate and finished the plates and bridges in black chrome. The movement is adjusted to five positions and provides approximately 42 hours of power reserve.
Hand-winding changes the ownership rhythm. The crown must be turned periodically to keep the mainspring charged, and the routine exposes more of the mechanical relationship between the wearer and the watch. For some owners that ritual is part of the appeal; for others it is less convenient than the 57.09’s automatic winding.
The 27.02’s thin case is closely tied to this movement choice. A manually wound calibre avoids the height and rotor architecture associated with an automatic system, helping MING achieve the 6.9 mm profile while retaining a visible mechanical movement beneath the rear sapphire crystal.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHow the reserves compare
The 57.09’s approximately 50-hour reserve exceeds the 27.02’s approximately 42 hours by about eight hours. Neither figure should be read as a guarantee of identical real-world running time in every position or condition; both are the manufacturers’ approximate specifications. The practical distinction is that the 57.09 gives more margin over a weekend or between wears, while the 27.02’s reserve is consistent with a very thin hand-wound design.
Does the MING 27.02 have a moving dial?
No. The 27.02 has a static layered dial construction. Its visual depth comes from a gradient sapphire dial with laser-etched markers and an anthracite Clous-de-Paris guilloché ring. The dial does not use the rotating disks found in the 57.09.

The 57.09 is fundamentally different. Its time display uses three stacked sapphire disks: one completes a rotation every 24 hours, one every 12 hours and one every 60 minutes. The result is a continuously changing display rather than a conventional set of hands or a fixed set of markers. The moving layers are the central design and engineering feature of the watch, not a decorative complication added around a standard dial.
Reading the 57.09’s three disks
The 12-hour and 60-minute disks carry honey-colored indications and orange-emitting Super-LumiNova. The top sapphire disk has engraved Polar White luminous indices. As the disks rotate at their different rates, the indications align to show the current time. The changing overlap creates a display that looks different throughout the day, even when the watch is viewed from the same angle.
This arrangement rewards a wearer who enjoys an unconventional display, but it also asks for a short learning period. Someone accustomed to two hands may need to pause and identify which rotating layer represents hours and which represents minutes. In return, the watch offers a stronger sense of mechanical movement than the 27.02’s deliberately static composition.
Reading the 27.02’s layered dial
The 27.02 communicates time through contrast, geometry and finishing rather than motion or illumination. Its gradient sapphire surface and laser-etched markers sit over an anthracite Clous-de-Paris ring. The lack of luminous material means the watch depends on available light and the contrast between the dial layers for legibility.
MING describes the concept version as “perhaps our most visually dynamic watch to date,” a description that refers to the interaction of sapphire, gradient color, guilloché and changing reflections rather than a moving time display. The dial can appear different as the wrist turns, but the components themselves remain stationary.
Design and material language
57.09: titanium, coatings and warm color
The 57.09 uses a Grade 5 titanium case. Its inner lugs receive a TiSiN coating and its middle lugs a TiN coating, creating a multicolor, layered treatment rather than a single uniform metal tone. The case follows MING’s fifth-generation design language, including a concave bezel and triple-stepped lugs.

Honey-colored indications and orange lume tie the display to the watch’s “Secret Honey” name, while the Polar White luminous indices on the top disk provide a second luminous color. Massena LAB summarizes the concept as combining both palettes in one watch.
Titanium also changes the physical experience beyond color. Compared with a similarly sized steel watch, Grade 5 titanium generally offers a lighter feel, while the coatings add visual complexity to the surfaces most visible around the lugs. The published specification does not provide a complete watch-head weight, so the comparison should remain qualitative rather than a claimed gram-for-gram difference.
27.02: steel, guilloché and monochrome depth
The 27.02 uses a 316L stainless-steel case with polished, brushed and blasted surfaces. Those three treatments break up the thin case into contrasting planes. The flying-blade lugs are especially important: they create open negative space and make the case architecture look more elaborate than its 6.9 mm thickness might suggest.
Front and rear sapphire crystals frame the watch. On the dial side, the gradient sapphire and laser-etched markers sit above the anthracite Clous-de-Paris ring. The color strategy is restrained compared with the 57.09: black, anthracite and steel finishing provide the visual interest, with no luminous accent competing with the surface work.

Motion versus reflection
The clearest design decision is whether you want animation or material interaction. The 57.09 changes continuously because its disks rotate. The 27.02 changes as light moves across its sapphire, guilloché and mixed steel finishing. The former is an active display; the latter is a study in depth, reflection and proportion.
Water resistance, crystals and everyday practicality
The 57.09 is rated to 100 m of water resistance, double the 27.02’s 50 m rating. That does not make either watch a dedicated dive instrument, and water-resistance ratings do not remove the need for sensible crown and gasket care. It does mean the 57.09 has the deeper stated margin for rain, swimming-related exposure and general daily wear, subject to the condition of the watch and its seals.
The 27.02’s 50 m rating suits normal daily use but reinforces its formal positioning. Its front and rear sapphire crystals support the visual goal of showing the dial layers and modified movement. The 57.09’s published description emphasizes the stacked sapphire display and its case architecture; the cited specification does not state a separate crystal configuration in the same detail as the 27.02 archive.

Both watches use a 20 mm lug width, so the basic strap-width requirement is the same. The choice of strap material and color will have a large effect on how each watch reads: the 57.09 can support a more contemporary technical treatment, while the 27.02’s thin steel case and monochrome dial naturally suit understated formal straps.
Availability, rarity and price
57.09 Secret Honey
The 57.09 Secret Honey is limited to 125 pieces. The published price is CHF 7,250 excluding taxes. Orders were scheduled exclusively through MING on 15 October 2026 at 13:00 GMT, with shipping stated at approximately eight weeks. Those terms describe the launch allocation and stated fulfillment window; taxes, delivery timing and any later availability depend on the order’s destination and the maker’s allocation.
Its 125-piece run makes the 57.09 scarce, but it is not a one-off. The limited production also comes with a clearly stated launch price, giving a prospective buyer a reference point before considering any later-market premium.
27.02 Concept
The 27.02 Concept was a piece unique delivered in 2020. MING’s official archive states that it is sold out, deliveries are complete and the model will not be produced again. There is therefore no current retail allocation to compare directly with the 57.09 launch order.
27.02 Special Edition
The 27.02 Special Edition was produced in a total of 10 pieces, completed and delivered in 2021. That edition is even rarer numerically than the 57.09, but its completed production means availability depends on an existing owner choosing to sell. No current retail price is established in the cited archive.

Consequently, the question “which is easier to find?” has two answers. The 57.09 is the only one with a documented 2026 launch allocation and stated retail price, so it is the more actionable purchase opportunity at launch. The 27.02 versions are archival and sold out, with any acquisition dependent on the secondary market and on authenticating an individual watch.
Is the 57.09 worth the premium over a 27.02?
There is no single premium calculation because the 27.02’s original retail price is not stated in the cited material and current secondary-market prices can vary by condition, provenance and seller. The meaningful comparison is therefore feature-based rather than a simple price-per-millimeter calculation.
What the 57.09 adds
- An automatic movement instead of hand winding.
- Approximately eight additional hours of stated power reserve.
- A three-disk sapphire display with continuous 24-hour, 12-hour and minute rotation.
- 100 m water resistance instead of 50 m.
- Luminous indications, including orange-emitting Super-LumiNova and Polar White luminous indices.
- A Grade 5 titanium case with TiSiN and TiN-coated lug elements.
- A documented CHF 7,250 excluding taxes launch price for a 125-piece edition.
What the 27.02 preserves
- A 2 mm smaller diameter and a dramatically thinner 6.9 mm case.
- A hand-wound, heavily modified 7001 architecture with black-chrome plates and bridges.
- Gradient sapphire, laser-etched markers and an anthracite Clous-de-Paris ring.
- Polished, brushed and blasted 316L steel finishing with flying-blade lugs.
- A more discreet, formal profile for cuff wear.
- Extreme rarity: one concept watch or 10 special-edition pieces, both fully delivered.
If your priority is mechanical animation, daily convenience and stronger low-light reading, the 57.09’s additional cost is attached to tangible functional and display differences. If your priority is ultra-thin construction, hand-winding and an archival design that rewards close inspection, the 27.02 offers qualities the 57.09 does not replicate. A buyer should not choose the 57.09 expecting it to be a thinner or more traditional dress watch; that is precisely where the 27.02 remains distinctive.
Which watch fits your use?
For a daily watch with unusual mechanics
The 57.09 is the stronger match. Automatic winding reduces maintenance between wears, the 50-hour reserve gives more flexibility, and the 100 m rating provides a broader everyday-use margin. Its luminous display also remains useful when ambient light falls.
For formal clothing and discreet proportions
The 27.02 is the logical choice. Its 6.9 mm thickness is the critical figure, while the 38 mm diameter and flying-blade lugs keep the visual footprint restrained. The static sapphire and guilloché dial supplies complexity without the visual movement of the 57.09.
For a collector focused on rarity
The 27.02 Concept’s one-piece status and the Special Edition’s 10-piece production are more extreme scarcity statements than the 57.09’s 125-piece run. However, the 27.02 watches are already sold out and delivered, so rarity also makes acquisition more difficult and condition-dependent.
For someone who wants lume
Choose the 57.09. Its 12-hour and 60-minute disks use orange-emitting Super-LumiNova, and the top sapphire carries engraved Polar White luminous indices. The 27.02 carries no luminous material, so its legibility depends on contrast and available light.
Quick Recap
Questions to check before buying
- Which 27.02 is being offered? Confirm whether a listing refers to the one-off Concept delivered in 2020 or the 10-piece Special Edition completed in 2021.
- Is the 57.09 launch timing relevant to your location? The stated CHF 7,250 price excludes taxes, and the order window was scheduled through MING at 13:00 GMT on 15 October 2026.
- Do you want automatic or hand-wound ownership? The movement choice changes the daily routine as much as it changes the technical specification.
- Can you live without lume? The 27.02 has none; this is a design decision, not a missing feature to be assumed away.
- How important is cuff clearance? The 3.27 mm thickness difference is likely to matter more than the 2 mm diameter difference in formal wear.
- Are you buying rarity or a current allocation? The 27.02 requires finding an existing watch, while the 57.09 has a defined limited-production launch path.
