Mobvoi TicWatch Seems Dead After More Than a Dozen Wear OS Watches—but It Hasn’t Been Officially Killed

Mobvoi has not officially killed TicWatch, but sparse new hardware, inconsistent availability and limited support language point to a sharp Wear OS retreat. Here’s whether owners should worry and buyers should switch.

Mobvoi’s TicWatch lineup looks dormant, not formally discontinued. The company has released no widely reported new model since the TicWatch Atlas in October 2024, late-2025 reports described disappearing listings and limited communication, and Mobvoi told 9to5Google that existing devices would receive “essential support.” Yet Mobvoi’s US store still listed the TicWatch Pro 5 and Pro 5 Enduro at $349.99 in an August 16, 2026 snapshot.

That makes “TicWatch is officially dead” too strong. The more useful conclusion for owners and buyers is that Mobvoi appears to have sharply reduced its Wear OS ambitions, with no clear major-update roadmap and no convincing sign of a healthy new-watch pipeline.

Why TicWatch looks abandoned

Mobvoi was once one of the most important independent Wear OS manufacturers. According to 9to5Google, it released more than a dozen Wear OS TicWatch devices over roughly seven years, although the exact count depends on whether regional versions, LTE and GPS editions, and hardware variants are counted separately.

The company’s distinctive selling point was hardware: the TicWatch Pro’s dual-layer display paired a full AMOLED panel with an ultra-low-power screen for better endurance. The Pro 5 family also used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 platform and emphasized battery life, GPS, health tracking and rugged construction.

What has changed is the momentum behind that hardware. The Atlas, released in October 2024 according to Wareable, is the last widely reported TicWatch launch. By December 2025, coverage described TicWatch models disappearing from Amazon and becoming unavailable through parts of Mobvoi’s retail presence. Mobvoi’s response was not a launch announcement or a detailed software roadmap, but a statement that it had “no new information to announce” and would provide “essential support” for existing devices.

That combination—no recent hardware, inconsistent availability and narrowly worded support—is why the lineup feels dead even though Mobvoi has not announced its cancellation.

The timeline: from Wear OS alternative to silence

  • 2017: The TicWatch 2 reaches the US. It uses Mobvoi’s own Android-rooted platform rather than standard Wear OS.
  • 2018: The TicWatch Pro establishes Mobvoi’s dual-display identity.
  • 2023: Mobvoi launches the TicWatch Pro 5.
  • 2024: The Pro 5 Enduro and TicWatch Atlas become the latest prominent additions to the range.
  • December 5, 2025: Reports highlight vanished listings, limited communication and Mobvoi’s “essential support” language.
  • August 16, 2026: Mobvoi’s US collection still displays the Pro 5 and Pro 5 Enduro at $349.99 with purchase controls.

The final point is a snapshot, not proof of dependable stock. A product page can represent remaining inventory, a legacy listing or a regionally maintained storefront. It does not prove that a successor is being developed.

Is TicWatch officially discontinued?

No formal discontinuation announcement is established by the available evidence. “No new information to announce” does not mean “the product is discontinued,” and “essential support” does not specify how long updates will continue or which updates are included.

There are several different states that are easy to confuse:

Status What it means
Listed online A product page remains available, possibly with residual inventory.
Available to buy A retailer accepts an order; stock, shipping and regional availability still need confirmation.
Supported The company may provide pairing help, bug fixes, app maintenance or replacement assistance.
Receiving major Wear OS updates The watch is on a defined operating-system upgrade path.
Has a successor The manufacturer is visibly investing in the next hardware generation.

Mobvoi’s current product pages establish only part of that picture. They do not establish a future Wear OS version schedule or a new TicWatch generation.

The real concern is software support

The issue is not simply that Mobvoi has released fewer watches. Its update record has historically lagged behind the most visible Wear OS partners. Wear OS 3 took roughly a year to reach TicWatch hardware after its wider introduction, and the move to Wear OS 4 was also slow. By late 2025, there was no clear public roadmap for Wear OS 5 or Wear OS 6 on recent TicWatch models.

“Updates” also means more than one thing:

  • Major Wear OS upgrades: New platform versions that can add features, alter compatibility and change system behavior.
  • Google Play and system-component updates: Maintenance delivered through Google’s services and the Play Store.
  • Mobvoi Health updates: Improvements to the phone app used for pairing, synchronization and health data.
  • Security patches: Fixes for vulnerabilities, which may arrive separately from a major Wear OS release.
  • Bug fixes and essential support: Narrow maintenance that does not imply a full platform roadmap.

A TicWatch can therefore receive an app update or limited maintenance without receiving the next major version of Wear OS. Google says Wear OS updates are obtained through the Play Store app on the watch, but available features and apps vary by device and Wear OS version. See Google’s Wear OS update guidance.

The long-term risks are practical: apps may eventually require a newer platform, Google services may behave differently, security support may stop, Mobvoi Health synchronization may become troublesome, and the watch may lose resale value. None of those outcomes makes an existing TicWatch immediately unusable, but they make a new purchase harder to justify at a premium price.

What existing TicWatch owners should do

If your watch meets your needs, there is no urgent reason to replace it solely because Mobvoi’s product strategy looks uncertain. Existing TicWatches can continue functioning as watches and may retain installed apps and current Wear OS features.

  1. Check the exact model and software version. Note the Wear OS version and the date of the last security update.
  2. Check for updates through the watch’s Play Store. This separates a temporarily missed update from the absence of a new major release.
  3. Keep Mobvoi Health installed and updated. The app may remain essential for pairing and synchronization on newer models.
  4. Avoid an unnecessary factory reset. Resetting can force a new pairing process, and you should confirm the current app and phone requirements before doing it.
  5. Assess the battery and accessories. Battery degradation, charger availability, replacement bands and repair options may become more important than the operating system.
  6. Back up or export important health data where the app allows it. Do not assume a discontinued or weakened ecosystem will preserve every historical record indefinitely.

For a used TicWatch, verify the exact model, Wear OS version, battery condition, included charger, pairing ability with your Android phone, water-resistance history, proof of purchase and return rights.

Are recent TicWatches still attractive?

Yes—but mainly because of their hardware. Mobvoi advertises up to 90 hours in Smart Mode and up to 45 days in Essential Mode for the Pro 5 Enduro. Those are manufacturer maximums, not independent measurements; actual endurance depends on display settings, GPS use, workouts, notifications, sleep tracking, health sensors and other configuration choices.

The hardware case includes:

  • A dual-layer display that can reduce the need to use the AMOLED screen.
  • Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 in the Pro 5 family.
  • GPS and multiple satellite systems.
  • Rugged construction and, on the Pro 5 Enduro, advertised 5 ATM water resistance.
  • Health and workout tracking with a battery-first design.

That can still be a compelling combination for an Android user who values multi-day endurance above rapid software upgrades. It is much less compelling when the watch costs as much as a current platform leader.

Should you buy a TicWatch now?

Buyer Recommendation
Wants maximum battery life and finds a deep discount Consider it, but treat future support as uncertain.
Wants the newest Wear OS features Avoid; choose a manufacturer with a clearer current roadmap.
Uses an iPhone Avoid recent Pro models. Mobvoi says the Pro 5 is not iOS-compatible.
Wants rugged hardware and accepts older software It may fit, especially at a large discount.
Is paying around $350 Compare current Pixel and Galaxy watches first.
Is buying used Buy only with return protection and verified model, battery and pairing details.

Compatibility matters

For the recent Pro 5 generation, Mobvoi’s FAQ says an Android phone running Android 8.0 or later with Google Mobile Services is required. Pairing uses the Mobvoi Health app. The Pro 5 is not compatible with iOS.

Do not apply those requirements to every historical TicWatch. Compatibility varies by model, region and software generation. Chinese-mainland and international editions may also differ in Google Mobile Services behavior.

The price problem

In the August 16, 2026 US store snapshot, Mobvoi listed the Pro 5 and Pro 5 Enduro at $349.99. At that price, the buyer is not merely choosing between two watch designs; they are paying for hardware with an unclear major-update future.

Google’s Pixel Watch 4 was listed at $349.99 for 41mm and $399.99 for 45mm on its US store page, while Samsung’s June 2026 MSRP sheet listed the Galaxy Watch8 at $349.99 for the 40mm Bluetooth model and $379.99 for the 44mm Bluetooth model. Prices and promotions change, but the comparison illustrates the problem: TicWatch’s battery advantage has to compensate for its weaker software-confidence story.

The Pixel Watch 4 offers a more direct Google hardware and software path, although buyers who prioritize multi-day battery life may prefer Mobvoi’s design. The Galaxy Watch8 is the other obvious mainstream Wear OS comparison, particularly for Samsung-phone owners. Any OnePlus alternative should be checked model by model: the official OnePlus Watch page alone does not establish that every listed product is a like-for-like Wear OS replacement.

What Mobvoi’s retreat means for Wear OS

This is not evidence that Wear OS itself is dead. Google’s current Wear OS showcase still includes devices from Google, Samsung, OnePlus, OPPO, Xiaomi, Mobvoi and luxury-watch brands. The platform remains active.

The concern is concentration. Fossil exited smartwatch development in 2024, and Mobvoi’s apparent slowdown removes another independent hardware voice. If fewer companies can sustain regular hardware launches and timely software support, Google and Samsung become even more important to the platform’s consumer visibility and developer incentives.

For buyers, that means the brand behind a Wear OS watch matters nearly as much as the processor or case design. A spectacular battery claim is useful today, but a predictable update policy, working companion app and accessible replacement parts determine how practical the watch remains after its first year.
