The power-reserve figure differs from launch-era coverage: Time+Tide’s November 11, 2024 article described approximately 40 hours, while Monbrey’s current B1 listing says 42 hours. These are source-specific figures from different dates, not values to combine. A 10 ATM / 100 m rating is a stated water-resistance specification; it does not by itself establish suitability for every water activity.
Will the MB2 fit your wrist?
The 37.5 mm diameter and 45 mm lug-to-lug measurement are useful starting points, but neither determines fit on its own. Compare the 45 mm length with the space across the top of your wrist and with watches you already find comfortable. Case shape, strap choice, and whether you prefer a compact or more prominent watch also affect how it wears. The 20 mm lug width is relevant if you plan to change straps; confirm compatibility for a replacement strap and its spring bars before buying.

Time+Tide’s November 2024 launch-era feature reported seven variants and described the watch as available with a leather strap and a steel bracelet, both using quick-release spring bars. That is historical coverage, so check the specific variant or later revision for its supplied band and configuration. Monbrey’s B1 Ice Blue listing specifies an Epsom Italian genuine leather strap.
As displayed on October 8, 2026, Monbrey’s B1 Ice Blue product page showed $5,080 excluding tax, VAT, and duties, and marked the watch sold out; its collection page also marked the MB2 sold out. These are changeable page states, not a promise of current availability. The price is likewise the displayed figure on that date, not an all-in regional price. Monbrey’s homepage advertises an MB2 revamp for 2027 Q1, but does not establish what specifications, variants, or availability that revision will have.

Is the MB2 Kenkyū a good first watch?
It may suit a first-watch buyer who specifically wants an automatic watch with a strong design identity and is comfortable evaluating fit and availability carefully. The listed Miyota 9039, 42-hour reserve, sapphire crystal, and 10 ATM / 100 m rating are concrete points to weigh, but they do not replace checking the watch on wrist or confirming the exact variant’s details. If you want a restrained, conventional dial or need a watch immediately, the patterned styling and sold-out status shown on Monbrey’s pages may make it a less straightforward choice.
For context, Time+Tide’s November 11, 2024 feature gave a US$486 preorder price and US$649 full retail price. Those were historical launch-era figures, not current pricing. The feature disclosed that it was made in partnership with Monbrey while stating its opinions were its own.
