The Montblanc Summit 2 is worth considering only as a discounted, tested used watch for someone who values its traditional luxury styling more than modern smartwatch features. Its stainless-steel finish and round display still have appeal, but its Wear OS 2-era hardware, typically day-long battery life when new, uncertain battery service and unproven compatibility with current phones make it a poor choice near its original price. This review covers the standard, non-cellular Summit 2—not the Summit 2+, Summit Lite or Summit 3.

Montblanc’s specifications and launch-era coverage describe the Summit 2 as a premium Wear OS watch. Its standard model has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth; LTE belongs to the separate Summit 2+.

Design and comfort
The Summit 2’s strongest argument is its appearance. A round, 42 mm stainless-steel case, conventional watch proportions and Montblanc-designed faces make it look more like a dress watch than many mainstream smartwatches. The case has a substantial profile, though, so it may feel thick or look large on a smaller wrist. Replaceable straps make it easier to shift from formal wear to everyday use.
That finish is a styling advantage, not evidence of better sensors, longer support or greater durability. The 5 ATM rating describes water resistance when the watch is in appropriate condition; it is not a diving certification. On an older used watch with an unknown service history, do not assume the original seals still provide reliable protection.

Display and controls
The 327-ppi round touchscreen was a sharp, attractive display for its generation, and customizable watch faces help the Summit 2 maintain its traditional-watch character. A physical crown and additional controls provide an alternative to tapping the screen. Always-on display is useful for checking the time at a glance, but it uses more power than a screen that wakes on demand.
Age changes the display question. Inspect a used unit for dim areas, persistent ghost images from static elements and inconsistent touch response. Owners have reported burn-in or display degradation, but these reports are anecdotal; they do not establish how often the problem occurs across all watches. Wear OS performance and apps
The Snapdragon Wear 3100 with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage was a premium configuration for the Summit 2’s launch period. In 2026, it is old hardware. Contemporary reviews evaluated the watch in the Wear OS 2 era; they cannot establish how well every app, account service or pairing flow will work with a current phone and software release.
Montblanc says Summit 2 owners can install apps from Google Play and customize watch faces. Notifications, basic apps and timekeeping may still suit a style-first owner, but do not buy on the assumption that the watch offers feature parity with current Wear OS devices. Battery life and charging
Montblanc describes the Summit line as suited to a full day of normal use, with several days possible in watch-only mode. That watch-only claim is not normal smartwatch endurance: it preserves basic timekeeping by giving up much of the connected experience. Historical reviews likewise found roughly day-long use on their test units. Those launch-era results say little about the remaining capacity of a battery in a watch that has been used for years.
For any used Summit 2, ask the seller to demonstrate a full day of your expected use, including whether the watch stays on with the display settings you prefer. Always-on display, tilt-to-wake, high brightness, animated faces and power-hungry apps can shorten runtime. Montblanc recommends turning off always-on display and tilt-to-wake, lowering brightness and removing demanding faces or apps to improve endurance.
Montblanc says charging usually takes about two hours. Digital Trends measured a test unit going from 10% to 80% in about 35 minutes, a historical result on that sample—not a promise for an aged battery. Check that the charging cradle is included, that the watch seats and charges reliably, and that the contacts are in good condition. Montblanc’s current FAQ lists battery-exchange service for the Summit 2+, Summit Lite and Summit 3, but does not list the standard Summit 2; confirm availability with a boutique or authorized service center before buying. Fitness, health and travel
The Summit 2 has a heart-rate sensor and a pre-installed heart-rate app, plus general activity and wellness features. Historical Montblanc materials also promoted running-coach and travel-oriented functions. That makes it a general-purpose smartwatch, not a current specialist health or sports watch. The available specifications do not establish modern medical accuracy or parity with newer devices for sleep, ECG, blood oxygen, temperature, fall detection or advanced training metrics.

Maps and other apps may help with navigation when supported, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth can provide some connectivity away from a phone. The standard Summit 2 does not have LTE, so it is not a phone-independent cellular watch. The Summit 2+ is the distinct model with cellular connectivity, subject to carrier support. Android, iPhone and messaging compatibility
Montblanc’s support FAQ lists legacy minimums of Android 4.4 or later and iOS 9.3 or later for Summit 2. A separate Montblanc collection page gives Android 6.0 and iOS 10 or later, so even the brand’s published minimums differ. Neither set should be treated as proof that pairing will work with every current phone. Check current Google Wear OS compatibility information and Montblanc support, and test the intended phone before keeping a used watch.
Montblanc documents a meaningful platform difference: Android users can reply to messages by voice, Smart Reply, handwriting or keyboard, while iPhone users can manage notifications but cannot reply directly from the watch. Incoming calls can be answered or declined according to Montblanc’s support guidance, but the standard Summit 2 is not a cellular substitute for a phone.
NFC hardware alone does not guarantee that contactless payments will work. Montblanc says Google Wallet availability for this product line is limited to Android phone users; country, bank, device and software support also matter. Listings can blur the model names, so verify the exact model rather than relying on a seller’s description. LTE capability is the key practical difference; it does not make the Summit 2+ the subject of this review. Summit 2+ model distinction
What to check before buying a used Summit 2
- Confirm the model. Make sure the listing is for Summit 2, not the original Summit, Summit 2+, Summit Lite or Summit 3.
- Inspect the display. Check for burn-in, dim patches, dead areas and reliable touch response at different brightness levels.
- Test battery life. Ask for a real-use demonstration that includes a full day, not only a brief power-on.
- Check the charger. Confirm the original or a verified compatible cradle is included and that the watch charges without repeated repositioning. Montblanc advises owners to align the watch with the cradle’s charging pins.
- Pair with your own phone. Factory-reset the watch if needed and complete setup through the Wear OS app. Confirm notifications and the Play Store work before the return period ends.
- Test controls and sensors. Check the crown, buttons, touchscreen and heart-rate reading; do not treat a quick sensor reading as proof of medical accuracy.
- Check ownership and reset status. Confirm the watch is removed from the previous owner’s account and can be set up from scratch.
- Assess physical condition. Look at the case, glass, lugs and strap, and ask about water exposure or repair history. Do not rely on an old water-resistance rating for an uninspected used unit.
- Get a return option. Battery, pairing and service risks are difficult to judge from photos; avoid a no-return purchase unless the price reflects that risk.
Montblanc’s setup guidance calls for powering on the watch with the crown, installing the Wear OS app, selecting the watch and following the pairing flow. How it compares with current alternatives
For a purchase in 2026, compare the Summit 2’s actual delivered used price—not its old launch price—with a current watch that includes a new battery, current platform support and a seller-backed warranty. These alternatives suit different buyers:

Verdict: buy only if the design is the point
The Summit 2 remains an appealing luxury-styled smartwatch, but it is not a sensible full-price technology purchase in 2026. Consider it only at a substantial discount as a fashion-first used watch, after verifying battery endurance, charging, phone compatibility and return terms. Skip it if you need reliable multi-day battery life, LTE, strong current health or sports tracking, assured repairability, or a fully interactive iPhone experience.
