Announced in late 2017 for the 2018 retail season, it is best understood as a historical launch model: the launch prices and availability below do not establish today’s stock or market value.
What set the Manufacture Chronograph apart?
Montblanc presented the watch as an evolution of the TimeWalker Chronograph Automatic, not simply a different dial treatment. The distinction was its automatic calibre MB 25.10, described in launch coverage as an in-house chronograph movement with a column wheel. The regular Chronograph Automatic used calibre MB 25.07, which Hodinkee described as Sellita-based. That difference identifies the mechanical step up; it does not, on its own, settle which watch is better value or better made.
Hodinkee’s 4 December 2017 launch report lists the MB 25.10 at 30.15 mm in diameter, with 232 components and 33 jewels. Fratello’s 18 January 2018 first look reports a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and Côtes de Genève decoration on the plates and bridges. Both accounts give a power reserve of about 46 hours.
How the panda dial and case are configured
The launch model’s white dial and black subdials create the panda layout. Three registers sit at three, six and nine o’clock, with the date at 4:30. Applied Arabic numerals mark two, four, eight and ten; red details add contrast, while Super-LumiNova is applied to the dial and hands. A fixed ceramic bezel carries a white-engraved tachymeter scale.

Fratello describes the stainless-steel case as 43 mm across and 15.2 mm thick. The launch configuration pictured in that first look pairs it with a perforated brown Sfumato aged calfskin strap and steel folding clasp.

Hodinkee’s 4 December 2017 report also gave a launch price of €4,990, approximately $5,940 at the time, and said retailer availability was expected in September 2018. These are launch-era figures and a stated expectation, not current pricing or confirmation of present availability.

Check the dial variant and reference
“TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph” can refer to more than one dial execution. Montblanc’s 2020 brochure lists a reverse-panda version, Ident No. 119942, with the same stated 43 mm by 15.2 mm stainless-steel case dimensions. That brochure reference should not be confused with the panda launch configuration, identified in the launch material as reference 118488. When looking at a listing, compare the dial and reference rather than relying on the model name alone.

For a comparison with another TimeWalker Chronograph Automatic or a different chronograph, the useful points are movement architecture, case dimensions, dial execution and bracelet or strap configuration. The MB 25.10 and column wheel distinguish the Manufacture model from the MB 25.07 regular model described by Hodinkee; the 43 mm diameter and 15.2 mm thickness describe the launch case; and the panda and reverse-panda versions should be treated as distinct configurations. None of those specifications establishes current resale value, condition, service history or seller reliability.

Fratello’s Robert-Jan Broer offered a mixed design reaction in his 18 January 2018 first look: “To be brutally honest I am not convinced that much by the design, but to each his (or her) own and the specifications are quite interesting in this price range.” That captures the model’s central trade-off: conspicuous motorsport styling is a matter of taste, while the movement and specification are the more objective points of distinction.
