The Apple Watch Ultra 3 leak behind this headline appeared on August 18, 2024, before the watch existed as an announced product. Its expected September 2024 launch did not happen: Apple announced Ultra 3 on September 9, 2025, and made it available on September 19, 2025. The released watch kept the familiar Ultra design, but added features the old report did not anticipate, including satellite communications and 5G. Apple’s official announcement is the reliable guide to the product now.
What the original leak claimed
The August 18, 2024 report attributed its information to a video by Matt Talks Tech. It did not cite Apple documentation, regulatory filings, component photographs, or named supply-chain sources, so its details were unconfirmed predictions—not specifications.
- Apple would launch Ultra 3 in September 2024.
- The watch would retain the Ultra 2’s basic exterior, without major new color options, and use an OLED display intended to improve power efficiency. The report expected brightness to remain similar and said micro-LED was not coming.
- Battery life might improve only slightly, and the chipset might change little or not at all.
- Apple might add a blood-pressure sensor or other health sensors.
- The U.S. price would stay near the existing level, potentially making the watch a modest upgrade for Ultra 1 and Ultra 2 owners.
The original report also suggested that the upgrade might not offer much value for people who already owned an Ultra. That was an opinion about the rumored feature set, not a confirmed product assessment. Read the original 2024 report.
What happened to the rumored launch date?
The September 2024 timing was wrong. Apple announced Apple Watch Ultra 3 on September 9, 2025, with availability beginning September 19, 2025. Apple set its U.S. starting price at $799. That is the launch price, not a guarantee of today’s price or inventory. Apple’s announcement provides the dates and launch pricing.

| Similar brightness | Incomplete | Apple emphasized improved viewing from wider angles and a larger active display, rather than simply repeating a brightness claim. |
| Similar exterior design | Broadly right | The recognizable titanium Ultra design remains, in natural and black titanium. |
| Slight battery improvement | Understated | Apple rates it for up to 42 hours of normal use and up to 72 hours in Low Power Mode. |
| Possible blood-pressure feature | Partly right in concept | Ultra 3 offers hypertension notifications. Apple does not describe them as direct blood-pressure measurement. |
| Little chipset change | Unverifiable from the cited material | Apple’s launch announcement emphasizes display, battery, connectivity, health, and software; it does not provide a complete processor comparison that establishes this rumor. |

Confirmed Apple Watch Ultra 3 specifications and features
Display
Apple calls this the largest display ever fitted to an Apple Watch. The LTPO3 wide-angle OLED display has borders Apple says are 24% thinner without changing the case size. Its always-on screen can refresh once per second rather than once per minute, enabling a ticking seconds hand on supported faces and apps. The new Waypoint face adds live compass information, satellite access, and Night Mode controls.
Battery and charging
- Up to 42 hours of normal use.
- Up to 72 hours in Low Power Mode.
- Up to 20 hours of outdoor workout tracking in Low Power Mode with full GPS and heart-rate readings.
- Apple says a 15-minute fast-charge session can provide up to 12 hours of battery life.
These are Apple’s “up to” estimates, not guaranteed runtimes. GPS workouts, cellular use, satellite communication, music streaming, diving, temperature, signal strength, and settings can affect actual endurance.

Cellular and satellite connectivity
Ultra 3 supports 5G cellular, but ordinary cellular service away from an iPhone requires a compatible carrier plan. Carrier compatibility, roaming, regional support, and plan terms vary, so check them before relying on the watch independently.
When cellular and Wi-Fi are unavailable, satellite features include Emergency SOS, Messages, SMS, and Find My location sharing. Apple says Find My via satellite can send a location to eligible contacts once every 15 minutes. Satellite features are included for two years with the watch under Apple’s stated conditions; Emergency SOS via satellite is included without a cellular plan, while other satellite functions have additional connectivity requirements. Satellite contact needs a line of sight to the sky, and buildings, trees, terrain, weather, or positioning can interfere. Availability also varies by country. These tools are not universal rescue coverage.

Health and software
Ultra 3 adds hypertension notifications and a sleep score. Hypertension notifications look for signs associated with chronic high blood pressure; they are not cuff-style measurements or a diagnosis. Regulatory clearance and availability vary by region and software version. An alert is not a substitute for professional advice or an approved blood-pressure monitor.
Ultra 3 runs watchOS 26, which brings a redesigned interface, Workout updates, Smart Stack improvements, and wrist-flick notification dismissal. Apple says watchOS 26 supports Apple Watch Series 6 or later, Apple Watch SE 2 or later, and all Ultra models; it requires an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26. Feature availability varies by device and region.

Fitness, navigation, and water use
Apple lists advanced running metrics, customizable workouts, training load, GPS, heart-rate readings, and Action button controls. Outdoor navigation features include offline maps, turn-by-turn directions, Waypoints, and Backtrack. Apple says the watch has WR100 water resistance certification; swimming features include stroke detection, lap count, SWOLF, and water temperature. The watch also supports Oceanic+ for recreational scuba diving. Third-party golf apps can use its motion APIs.
Materials and finishes
The titanium case comes in natural and black finishes. Apple also introduced a Trail Loop design with reflective yarn and additional Alpine Loop and Ocean Band colors. Apple says the watch uses recycled cobalt in its battery, recycled titanium in its case, and a 3D-printing process that uses less raw material; these are Apple’s environmental claims. What the 2024 report missed
The biggest omissions were not small specification details. The released Ultra 3 added two-way satellite communication and 5G, alongside the larger active display, longer rated battery life, sleep score, and hypertension notifications. The display’s once-per-second always-on refresh is another concrete change. Those features make the final watch a broader update than the leak’s portrayal of a mostly familiar watch with modest screen and battery changes.
Is Apple Watch Ultra 3 worth upgrading to?
It may suit Ultra 1 owners and outdoor users
The strongest case is for someone who regularly hikes, camps, runs, skis, or travels beyond cellular coverage and will actually use satellite safety or messaging features. The longer Apple-rated battery life, larger display, navigation tools, 5G, and workout functions can also matter to an Ultra 1 owner or an athlete whose current watch no longer meets their needs.
Ultra 2 owners may not need to rush
The exterior remains familiar, and the $799 U.S. launch price puts the watch in premium territory before optional bands, cellular service, or protection coverage. For an Ultra 2 owner already satisfied with battery, GPS, durability, and fitness tools, the upgrade is evolutionary rather than essential. Satellite features are most valuable for a specific use case, and hypertension notifications do not replace clinical blood-pressure monitoring.
Consider a standard Apple Watch if you do not need Ultra features
Buyers who prioritize a smaller or lighter watch, lower cost, or mainstream health and smartwatch functions may prefer a standard model. Apple’s 2025 lineup also included Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch SE 3; check Apple’s current store listings for live prices and configurations rather than assuming launch pricing remains current. Apple’s 2025 lineup announcement.
Costs and compatibility to check before buying
- Cellular: 5G capability is not a cellular plan. Check carrier compatibility, roaming, and recurring charges if you need calls, messages, or data away from your iPhone.
- Satellite: Confirm availability in your country and understand the line-of-sight and service conditions. The two-year inclusion is not permanent free satellite service.
- Health: Check whether hypertension notifications are available in your region and software version; they do not measure blood pressure directly.
- Battery: Treat Apple’s endurance figures as estimates. Frequent GPS workouts, cellular connections, satellite use, streaming, diving, and cold weather can affect runtime.
- iPhone: watchOS 26 requires an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26, and individual features may have additional device or regional limits.
- Added ownership costs: Bands, a cellular plan, and optional protection coverage can raise the cost beyond the watch’s price. Apple identifies AppleCare options for the watch; coverage and terms depend on the applicable plan. AppleCare details.
Bottom line for today’s reader
The August 2024 leak is useful as a record of what was being rumored, not as a buying guide or reliable specification sheet. It got the familiar design, no micro-LED, and similar price broadly right, but missed the launch year and understated the eventual display, battery, and connectivity changes. For a purchase decision, use Apple’s confirmed specifications and weigh the Ultra 3’s satellite, 5G, battery, and outdoor features against how you actually use a watch.
