Some Pixel Watch 2 owners began getting Nest Camera Live View in December 2024, after Google first introduced wrist-based camera viewing as a Pixel Watch 3 feature. But Google’s current help pages do not agree about Pixel Watch 2 support, so access is not guaranteed on every watch or camera. If you already own a Watch 2, check the Google Home app on your watch before upgrading just for this feature.
What Pixel Watch 2 owners may be able to do
The reported rollout brought the Google Home for Wear OS experience to some Pixel Watch 2 devices. Depending on availability for your setup, you may be able to open a compatible Nest Camera or Doorbell’s live feed, zoom by double-tapping, and pan around a zoomed image by pressing and sliding. Google also documents camera and doorbell notifications, two-way talk, and quick responses where supported. These are distinct capabilities: receiving an alert does not necessarily mean live video or every quick action is available.
The watch experience is not a substitute for the full Google Home phone app; Google notes that some Home features are unavailable in Wear OS. See Google’s watch camera controls and its Google Home for Wear OS overview.
Why Pixel Watch 2 support is still uncertain
Google’s fall 2024 announcement positioned Nest camera live viewing on the wrist as a Pixel Watch 3 feature. Reports dated December 19–20, 2024 then described the capability appearing on Pixel Watch 2 units, associated with Google Home and Google Play services updates rather than necessarily a Wear OS system update. Google’s announcement, PiunikaWeb’s report, and TechPulse’s report document that sequence.

- The Pixel Watch 2 comes with three new advanced sensors for heart rate tracking, skin temperature, and stress management[1,2]; 100% recycled light aluminum housing makes it comfortable to wear[3]
- The all-new heart rate sensor and Google AI combine for Fitbit’s most spot-on heart rate tracking yet[4], so you can get more precise health and fitness info[5]
- Go even longer with the enhanced 24-hour battery and always-on display[6,7]; charge for 75 minutes to get a full day of battery life[8]
- Identify potential signs of stress with Fitbit’s body-response feature, so you can manage it in the moment[5]; and track variations in your skin temperature, blood oxygen levels, and sleep to help you spot possible changes[5,9,10]
- Get help with Emergency SOS and Fall Detection if you’re feeling unsafe or if you’ve had a hard fall[11,12]; and Safety Check alerts your close contacts if you don’t respond to a set check-in timer[13]
Google’s current dedicated troubleshooting page still says live video and quick actions are available only on Pixel Watch 3, with availability on other Pixel Watch models described as forthcoming. Its broader Wear OS page describes live camera feeds as a Wear OS capability. The pages therefore leave a real mismatch: reports show access on some Watch 2 devices, but Google does not clearly confirm universal Watch 2 support. A staged rollout, account or camera configuration, or lagging documentation could explain the difference, but Google has not established which applies. Treat the feature as reported and potentially variable, not as a guaranteed Watch 2 entitlement.
Check whether it works on your Pixel Watch 2
Google’s general requirements for Home on Wear OS are a watch running Wear OS 3 or newer, a connected Android phone running Android 9.0 or newer, a Google Account, the latest Google Home app on both devices, and a camera already set up in Google Home on the phone. The watch also needs an applicable Wi-Fi or LTE connection. These requirements do not override the unresolved model-specific guidance on Google’s camera troubleshooting page.

- Update Google Home on your phone and confirm the camera or doorbell works there.
- On the watch, open the Play Store, go to Manage apps > Update all, and install available updates, especially Google Home and system components.
- Open Google Home on the watch, or open its Home tile. Select Devices or the camera’s device tile, then choose the camera. Tap the live-view control if it appears.
- To try two-way talk, open live view, tap the menu icon, then tap the microphone icon.
If the control appears and the feed opens, your current setup has access. Its presence does not establish that every Pixel Watch 2, camera model, region, or account has the same support.
Which Nest cameras and doorbells might work?
Google says camera alerts are available for Nest cameras and doorbells launched in 2021 or later, but its watch help does not provide a complete model-by-model list for Pixel Watch 2 live view. Contemporary coverage named newer devices including Nest Cam (battery), Nest Cam with Floodlight, Nest Cam Indoor (wired, 2nd generation), Nest Doorbell (battery), and Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd generation). That list is not a guarantee of Watch 2 compatibility; confirm that your particular device is set up and visible in Google Home. SlashGear’s coverage discusses those models.

- Do not assume that every product with Nest branding supports wrist live view. Independent testing of Pixel Watch 3 found a Nest Hub Max camera reported as unsupported, a reminder that compatibility is device-specific. DC Rainmaker’s testing describes that case.
- Dropcam and Dropcam Pro no longer provide live streams or app access; Google ended support on April 8, 2024. Google’s Dropcam notice explains the change.
- For a different viewing device, Google’s compatibility guidance for Nest displays and Google TV devices is separate from Wear OS support. Check Google Home’s device-specific streaming guidance.
Troubleshoot a missing feed or unavailable controls
- The camera is missing from the watch: Check that it works in the Google Home phone app and is associated with the same Google Account and Home structure. A camera configured only in a legacy Nest workflow may not be available through the watch’s Home app. Google’s camera transfer guidance covers moving eligible cameras to Google Home.
- The alert says “Open on phone”: This can indicate an unsupported camera, incomplete rollout, outdated app, or notification configuration issue. It is not proof of a single cause.
- Alerts work but live video does not: Notifications and interactive video can have different compatibility or rollout requirements. Update both apps and check whether the camera’s device page offers live view.
- The feature has not appeared after updating: Force-stop Google Home on the watch, restart the watch and phone, and allow time for configuration changes to apply. Google says users may need to wait up to four hours after updating and then restart the watch.
- Two-way talk is missing: The device or current rollout may expose viewing without that quick action. Google’s documentation does not establish that every supported camera and watch combination has identical controls.
For camera alerts specifically, enable camera alerts in Google Home and watch notifications. Google says animated notification previews require Wear OS System UI version 1.4 or newer; that requirement concerns animated previews, not a blanket guarantee of live viewing.

If live view already appears and works on your Watch 2 with your camera, that reduces the case for upgrading solely to view a feed from your wrist. If you need Google’s clearest documented model support, its current troubleshooting page names Pixel Watch 3 for live video and quick actions. Even then, check the exact camera: Google does not promise that every Nest camera works with watch live view.

A watch screen is also a small place to inspect a sustained video feed. Use Google Home on a phone for broader controls, or a compatible Nest display or Google TV device when a larger view is more useful. The documented prerequisites for basic watch live viewing do not list Nest Aware or Google Home Premium as mandatory; cloud recording and video history are separate from opening a live feed.
