The Rolex Datejust Turn-O-Graph ref. 116263 is my favorite Datejust for the way it pairs familiar 36 mm, two-tone styling with a rotating, numbered bezel that looks ready to do a job. That bezel can mark elapsed minutes; it does not make the watch a chronograph or a Submariner. The appeal is the unusual blend: an elegant Datejust with a more functional-looking edge.
What is the Rolex Turn-O-Graph 116263?
The 116263 is the yellow-gold Rolesor version of the final six-digit Datejust Turn-O-Graph family. Rolesor combines Oystersteel and gold; reference listings describe this model as a 36 mm watch with a yellow-gold bezel. Its proportions and two-tone finish keep it recognizably within the Datejust line, while the bezel gives it a more overtly sporty character.
The Turn-O-Graph name refers to the rotating bezel, whose markings let the wearer track elapsed minutes. Set the marker against the minute hand at the start of an activity, then read the elapsed time from the bezel. It is a simple timing aid, not a chronograph: there are no chronograph pushers or stopwatch mechanism. Nor is it a Submariner; the 116263 is a Datejust with a timing bezel, not a dive-watch variant.
What makes its design distinctive?
The bezel
The fluted, numbered bezel is the visual and practical difference that sets the Turn-O-Graph apart from a standard Datejust. Its gold finish connects it to the dressier two-tone look, while the markings suggest a tool-watch function. That contrast is the point, rather than an attempt to turn the watch into a dedicated sports model.

Red details on the final generation
The final-generation Turn-O-Graphs are associated with a red seconds hand and red date accents. These small touches add color to an otherwise familiar Datejust layout and reinforce the model’s individual identity. Dial and bracelet combinations vary, so a particular example should be described by its actual configuration rather than assumed to match every other 116263.
Bracelet and dial variations
Family references include Oyster and President bracelet options, and auction catalogues also document Jubilee examples. Do not assume a bracelet is original or was available on every configuration simply because it appears in a listing. Check the specific watch’s reference, dial, hands, date display, bezel and bracelet together.

Where does the 116263 sit in Turn-O-Graph history?
Phillips places refs. 116264, 116263 and 116261 in the final generation, introduced in 2004, and says Turn-O-Graph production ceased in 2011. A Bezel reference listing gives different dates: release in 2003 and discontinuation in 2012. The exact introduction and end years are therefore not settled by these accounts; Phillips’ chronology is one documented account, not an uncontested date range.
The three final-generation references distinguish the metal combination: 116261 uses Everose Rolesor, 116263 yellow-gold Rolesor, and 116264 white-gold Rolesor. The 116263 is the choice for the warm yellow-gold-and-steel look.
Was there a Japan-market limited 116263?
Yes. Phillips documents a Japan-market limited edition in white- or black-dial form, with green seconds hands and green date wheels, and states that the edition comprised 300 pieces. Phillips also records one circa-2005 white-dial example selling for HK$152,400. That result pertains to the specific limited-edition auction lot; it is not a general valuation for a standard 116263 or a current market price.

How much is a Rolex 116263 worth?
There is no single reliable figure established here for the standard 116263. The reference is discontinued and trades through the secondary market, where asking prices vary with configuration, condition, completeness, location and seller. Dealer offers are asking prices, not completed sales or an intrinsic value, and the available listings do not establish a like-for-like transaction series for the standard watch.
When comparing examples, separate ordinary 116263s from the Japan-market limited version and distinguish current offers from completed auction results. Account for currency, taxes and buyer protections in different regions. The Phillips result above is useful as a record of one specific sale, not as a shortcut to pricing another watch.

What to check before buying a pre-owned example
- Configuration: Confirm the dial, hands, date color, bezel and bracelet on the actual watch. Establish whether it is a standard version or the documented Japan-market limited edition.
- Condition and originality: Inspect case shape, bezel and bracelet wear, and whether dial and hands appear consistent. Listing photographs alone cannot establish condition or originality; seek an assessment from a qualified watchmaker or specialist.
- Function and service: Ask for service records and have timekeeping, date change and bezel operation checked. If water resistance matters, request a current test by a qualified watchmaker rather than relying on the reference’s nominal rating.
- Completeness and provenance: Check whether the sale includes box, papers and service documentation, and ask for a coherent ownership history. Listings can range from watch-only to fuller sets.
- Price evidence: Compare like with like, keeping region, currency, taxes and buyer protections in view. Do not equate a seller’s asking price with a realized sale.
Why the 116263 is my favorite Datejust
The 116263 works because it does not choose between polished and purposeful. Its 36 mm two-tone Datejust form remains classic, but the rotating gold bezel gives it a distinctive, usable timing function and a stronger sporting presence than a conventional Datejust bezel. It is neither a chronograph nor a dive watch; it is an elegant Datejust with an uncommon bit of practical character.
