The newest Seiko Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph is the 2026 Caliber 5X63 family: HAB001, HAB002, HAB003, and the limited-edition HAB004. Announced on May 12, 2026, as part of Seiko’s 145th-anniversary program, the collection combines GPS-controlled time-zone adjustment, a second-time-zone display, solar power, and a 24-hour chronograph capable of measuring in 1/20-second increments.

The important clarification is that this is not Seiko’s first Astron Dual-Time Chronograph. That distinction belongs to the 2024 Caliber 5X83 models. The 2026 watches are a new movement and case-design evolution, with horizontally arranged sub-dials, a two-piece octagonal titanium bezel, and a quick-change strap system. Seiko’s announcement says the four models became available through selected U.S. retail partners from June 2026, although current stock and transaction prices vary by retailer.

What the 2026 Astron 5X63 actually does

Caliber 5X63 is designed for travelers who want an analog watch that can keep track of local time without routine battery replacement or manual resetting after every flight. Its GPS function receives time and time-zone information from the GPS network, while the solar cell draws operating energy from light.

Depending on conditions and settings, Seiko lists approximately six months of operation when fully charged and approximately two years in power-save mode. When the watch is not receiving a GPS signal and is operated between 5°C and 35°C, the stated accuracy is ±15 seconds per month. Those are manufacturer specifications; they are not a substitute for an independent test of GPS reception or real-world accuracy.

Travel functions

  • GPS time-zone adjustment: the watch can use GPS reception to determine the relevant time zone and correct the time.
  • Automatic daylight-saving-time handling: supported through the GPS-based system, although Seiko notes that manual time-zone selection may be necessary when local rules or regional daylight-saving policies change.
  • High-speed time-zone adjustment: intended to make changing local time quicker than a conventional multi-step manual setting process.
  • Dual time: a second time zone is displayed alongside the main time, with a 24-hour indication.
  • Time transfer: the movement can transfer the main-time setting to the sub-dial display.
  • World time: the system covers 38 cities.
  • Reception-result indication: the watch can show whether a GPS reception attempt succeeded.

GPS reception is not identical to radio-controlled timekeeping. Astron uses the GPS network as its principal global synchronization method, so reception depends on the watch having suitable access to the signal. The watch’s automatic features also do not remove every possible need for human intervention: changes in regional rules, time-zone definitions, or daylight-saving policies can require manual selection.

Chronograph and calendar

The chronograph measures up to 24 hours in 1/20-second increments. The 5X63 also includes a perpetual calendar programmed to remain correct through February 28, 2100, automatic hand-position alignment, and power-saving functions. The result is a watch built around several distinct jobs: keeping local time, tracking home time, synchronizing by GPS, and timing events.

That breadth is the point of the Astron. It is not primarily a minimalist travel watch or a compact mechanical chronograph. It is a technically dense, light-powered instrument for a buyer who values automation and multiple indications more than a small case or a simple dial.

For readers comparing current listings, the Seiko Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph search is a shopping starting point rather than confirmation of stock. The research available for this article did not verify a live Amazon listing for HAB001, HAB002, HAB003, or HAB004, so check the exact reference number, seller, warranty, and final price before buying.

HAB001: the balanced bracelet option

HAB001 is the most neutral-looking of the two bracelet models, with a blue-gray-toned dial and titanium case and bracelet. At $2,700 U.S. recommended retail, it costs the same as HAB002. It is the logical choice for a buyer who wants the lighter-colored dial treatment and the integrated titanium-bracelet configuration without the anniversary styling of HAB004.

HAB002: the understated option

HAB002 uses a black dial and otherwise shares the principal specification and $2,700 U.S. recommended retail price of HAB001. Its black-on-dark presentation is the more restrained choice in the regular-production range, while retaining the titanium bracelet and the full 5X63 feature set.

HAB003: the lowest-priced model

HAB003 is priced at $2,600 U.S. recommended retail, making it the least expensive of the four. It is also the most visually assertive regular-production model, pairing a black dial with gold-colored accents on the inner bezel ring, indexes, and hands.

The price difference comes with a configuration difference: HAB003 is supplied on silicone rather than a titanium bracelet. Its official U.S. specifications list a 43.4 mm case diameter, 12.4 mm thickness, 50.0 mm lug-to-lug length, sapphire crystal, titanium case with super-hard coating, and 10-bar water resistance.

HAB004: the anniversary edition

HAB004 is the Seiko 145th Anniversary limited edition, restricted to 2,000 pieces. Its light-silver dial, blue details, and exclusive blue-and-white silicone strap distinguish it from the regular models. At $2,900 U.S. recommended retail, it carries the highest listed price, with the limited production and anniversary design providing the principal reason to choose it over HAB001–HAB003.

Case, materials, and wearing implications

The family measures 43.4 mm in diameter, 12.4 mm thick, and 50.0 mm lug-to-lug, based on Seiko’s official HAB003 specification page. The case is titanium with a super-hard coating, the crystal is sapphire with a super-clear coating, and water resistance is rated at 10 bar. Magnetic resistance is listed as 4,800 A/m.

These measurements point to a substantial wrist presence rather than a compact travel watch. That is a specification-based inference, not a hands-on comfort judgment. The case’s central design change is a two-piece octagonal titanium bezel. Seiko says this construction lowers the center of gravity to improve wearing comfort, but individual fit will still depend on wrist size, bracelet adjustment, and tolerance for a 43.4 mm case.

Quick-change straps and compatibility

Seiko specifically identifies two compatible silicone straps for the new models: RA01B14BK in black and RA01B14WT in white. Those references are safer buying targets than a generic strap selected solely from the listed lug distance. The presence of a quick-change mechanism means that a generic 14 mm strap should not automatically be assumed to fit or function correctly.

For owners checking accessory options, begin with the Seiko Astron compatible silicone strap references and confirm that the listing explicitly names RA01B14BK or RA01B14WT and the relevant 2026 Astron models. The black strap is the more discreet alternative; the white strap offers a higher-contrast look. Availability of either accessory can vary independently of watch availability.

2026 5X63 versus 2024 5X83

Search results and retailer descriptions can blur two different Astron generations. The 2024 models—SSH151, SSH153, SSH155, and limited-edition SSH156—were the first Astron GPS Solar watches to combine dual-time technology with a chronograph function. They used Caliber 5X83 and introduced a 1/20-second chronograph together with fast time transfer. Seiko’s 2024 announcement establishes that chronology.

Feature 2024 5X83 family 2026 5X63 family
Role in the lineup First Astron Dual-Time Chronograph generation Newer movement and design generation
Models SSH151, SSH153, SSH155, SSH156 HAB001, HAB002, HAB003, HAB004
Movement Caliber 5X83 Caliber 5X63
Dial architecture Earlier vertically emphatic three-sub-dial arrangement Horizontally arranged sub-dials
Case update Earlier-generation construction Two-piece octagonal titanium bezel and quick-change strap system

The 2026 release should therefore be described as an evolution, not an invention of the category. Its clearest changes are visual and ergonomic: the horizontal sub-dial layout, revised octagonal titanium bezel construction, and easier strap interchange. A buyer deciding between generations should compare exact references, current retailer pricing, warranty coverage, and condition rather than assume that the newer model is automatically better in every respect.

Which 2026 Astron should you buy?

  • Choose HAB001 if you want the titanium bracelet, a colored blue-gray-toned dial, and the least polarizing design.
  • Choose HAB002 if you prefer a black dial and a more understated regular-production watch on titanium.
  • Choose HAB003 if you want the lowest U.S. recommended price, black-and-gold styling, and a silicone strap instead of a bracelet.
  • Choose HAB004 if the 145th-anniversary design, blue-and-white strap, and 2,000-piece limitation matter more than the $2,900 price.

All four are most relevant to frequent travelers who want automatic time-zone adjustment, a second time display, and solar operation. They are less suitable for someone specifically seeking a small chronograph or a low-cost travel watch: the official 43.4 mm diameter and 50.0 mm lug-to-lug length indicate a large case, while U.S. recommended retail prices run from $2,600 to $2,900.

Price and availability in the United States

The prices above are Seiko U.S. recommended retail prices, not guaranteed transaction prices. Seiko announced selected-retailer availability from June 2026 and advises customers to check individual stores because inventory differs. The official Seiko Astron lineup is the appropriate place to confirm model references and reach the retailer/store-locator path.

Before purchasing, verify:

  1. That the reference is HAB001, HAB002, HAB003, or HAB004—not an older 5X83 model presented under a similar title.
  2. Whether the seller is an authorized retailer and what warranty documentation is included.
  3. Whether the displayed price is a recommended retail price, a current discount, or a secondary-market asking price.
  4. For HAB004, whether the seller can substantiate the limited-edition reference and included anniversary strap.
  5. For replacement straps, whether the listing explicitly confirms compatibility with the new 5X63 case and quick-change system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 2026 Seiko Astron Dual-Time Chronograph the first model of its kind?

No. The 2024 Caliber 5X83 family was the first Astron GPS Solar generation to combine dual time and a chronograph. The 2026 HAB001–HAB004 models use the newer Caliber 5X63 and revise the case and dial design.

How accurate is Caliber 5X63?

Seiko states an accuracy of ±15 seconds per month when the watch is not receiving a GPS signal and is operated between 5°C and 35°C. GPS reception provides time correction, but this specification should not be presented as an independently tested result.

Can the new Astron use any 14 mm watch strap?

Not necessarily. The models have a named quick-change system, and Seiko identifies RA01B14BK and RA01B14WT as compatible silicone straps. A generic strap should not be assumed compatible merely because a product page lists a 14 mm lug distance.

Which model is the least expensive?

HAB003 has the lowest U.S. recommended retail price at $2,600. It uses a silicone strap rather than the titanium bracelet supplied with HAB001 and HAB002.

How limited is the HAB004 anniversary edition?

Seiko states that HAB004 is limited to 2,000 pieces. It has a light-silver dial with blue details and an exclusive blue-and-white silicone strap.

The Bottom Line

The 2026 Seiko Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph is a premium, large-format travel chronograph built around Caliber 5X63. Its meaningful updates over the 2024 5X83 generation are the horizontal sub-dial layout, two-piece octagonal titanium bezel, revised case construction, and quick-change strap system. With U.S. recommended retail prices from $2,600 to $2,900, HAB001–HAB004 make the most sense for travelers who want GPS time-zone adjustment, dual time, chronograph timing, and solar power in one substantial watch.
