That is a long-term service pledge—not, on the evidence in the letter, a fully defined 50-year warranty.
What “maverick” means in Hacko’s vision
In an open letter reproduced by Time+Tide on 27 April 2020, Sydney-based watchmaker Nicholas Hacko described his company’s aim as creating “a uniquely Australian timepiece” and showing that Australian watchmakers could compete with the best Swiss watches. He called his team “mavericks in the watchmaking world.” These are Hacko’s stated ambitions, not an independent assessment of comparative quality.
The Time+Tide piece presents the letter alongside an advertisement and calls it “an ad of sorts.” It is therefore best read as the maker’s account of his aims and promises, rather than as an independent interview or product review.
What the letter says about the NH2
The featured watch is the NH2, which Hacko’s letter calls a “functioning piece of art.” It describes a handmade movement with a mainplate, three-quarter plate, bridge and balance cock made from Timascus. The letter says electric current produces color variation in the material and notes a sapphire open case back.

Those construction and material details are claims in the reproduced letter; the Time+Tide article does not independently verify them. The source reports that more than 700 watches across the “rebelde,” NH1 and NH2 lines had been created when the letter was written. That is a maker-reported 2020 figure, not a current production total.
What the 50-year promise does—and does not—say
The letter’s central statement is: “This resolute pledge to our local horological industry ensures that our customers can bring a watch back to us 50 years from now, and still have it serviced and repaired.” Its wording promises continued access to service and repair; it does not set out the terms of a comprehensive 50-year warranty.

The reproduced letter does not define covered defects, who pays for parts or labor, exclusions, transferability, or how a claim must be made. Without those details, “50-year warranty” is too broad a description of what the quoted passage establishes. A reader considering a purchase would need current written terms from the seller or maker to know what protection applies.
Repairability as a manufacturing commitment
Hacko presents Australian manufacturing as a commitment both to customers and to young watchmakers. In his account, local manufacture is intended to preserve the ability to service and repair watches over the long term. He says the watches should embody “robustness, reliability and reparability.”

The letter also claims that repairs can be performed “within 24-hours.” It does not specify which repairs, the circumstances or the service conditions behind that timing, so it should be treated as the maker’s claim rather than a guaranteed turnaround for every repair.

The 2020 article establishes what Hacko said in the reproduced letter, but it is not a current official product or warranty page. Before relying on the long-term service pledge, ask for current documentation that clarifies:

- Whether the 50-year statement is a service commitment, a warranty, or both.
- Which repairs and parts are available, and whether service and replacement components incur charges.
- Whether the commitment applies to subsequent owners and how a watch is submitted for service.
- Whether the 24-hour claim applies to the repair needed and what conditions or exclusions affect timing.
The source does not establish current NH2 availability, pricing, sales channel, or warranty terms. Those details should be confirmed directly with an authoritative current source before purchase.
