It looked too complete to be just another render: in June 2025, a device presented as Samsung’s Galaxy Watch8 Classic appeared in an eBay listing, reportedly showing its name during setup and carrying model number SM-L505U. Samsung later listed the Galaxy Watch8 Classic on its official regional product pages. The listing appears to have shown a genuine pre-release watch, although it was never official confirmation and does not prove every detail of that particular unit was final.
Why an eBay listing caused disbelief
Before Samsung officially documented the Galaxy Watch8 Classic, earlier images of the watch had been described as mock-ups. Then, on June 9, 2025, Droid Life reported an eBay listing that appeared to show a physical device being set up. That was a stronger clue than a render: a setup screen can suggest working hardware and software, even if it cannot establish who made the device or whether its software is final.
Droid Life reported that the setup process displayed “Galaxy Watch8 Classic” and that the watch showed model number SM-L505U. The report also noted a sapphire-crystal cover-glass claim and a design consistent with the earlier imagery. These details made the listing persuasive, but the seller’s provenance was not independently established in the available coverage. An online listing is not the same thing as a Samsung announcement.
What the listing appeared to get right
- Classic branding: The reported setup screen named the Galaxy Watch8 Classic.
- A physical rotating bezel: The watch appeared to bring back the tactile control associated with Samsung’s Classic line.
- A cushion-like case: The body combined a squarer outer silhouette with a circular watch face.
- A substantial watch format: Samsung’s later product pages list a 46 mm model.
- Sapphire glass: This was reported as a detail of the listed device; it should not be treated as a universal regional specification on that basis alone.
Samsung’s official pages subsequently confirmed the product’s Classic identity and the broad design clues: a rotating bezel, cushion design, Quick Button and Dynamic Lug System. That makes the listing look broadly accurate, not proof that every photographed detail, regional configuration or software screen was identical to the final retail watch. Earlier mock-ups, a marketplace device and Samsung’s product documentation are three different levels of evidence.

What Samsung confirmed about the design
The Watch8 Classic is not simply an Ultra with a bezel. Samsung describes a cushion design, while the rotating bezel restores a control familiar from earlier Classic watches. The result pairs a circular display and traditional bezel interaction with a squarer outer case.
Rotating bezel and Quick Button
The bezel provides a physical way to navigate, rather than relying only on touch. Samsung also lists a Quick Button, an additional physical control intended to provide access to functions or apps. The controls make the Classic’s appeal partly about interaction and feel, not just its appearance.

Case and band system
Samsung lists the watch at 46 mm and describes an improved Dynamic Lug System intended to make band changes easier and improve fit. The dimensions and weight make this a substantial watch; shoppers who prefer a compact or light wearable should consider the fit before choosing it. Check band compatibility rather than assuming older straps will fit this lug system.

Model numbers and regional versions
The eBay report gave the identifier SM-L505U. Samsung’s Canadian pages list, for example, SM-L500NZKAXAC for a Bluetooth model and SM-L505FZKAXAC for an LTE model. These identifiers point to different regional or connectivity configurations, not different generations. The reported “U” suffix should not be used to infer that every market has the same radio bands, colors, software or health functions.
Samsung’s LTE page includes cellular and eSIM information that does not apply in the same way to the Bluetooth-only listing. LTE can reduce reliance on a nearby phone, but service depends on supported carriers and any required plan; the watch itself does not establish that service is included. Check the exact local model and carrier requirements before buying.

Availability and operation can depend on country, regulatory approval, paired phone, Samsung Health, account setup and software version. ECG, blood-pressure and sleep-related features are monitoring tools, not a medical diagnosis or replacement for professional care. Who the Classic design suits
The Classic is most compelling if tactile navigation and a conventional watch look matter to you, and you are comfortable wearing a large 46 mm case. Samsung Health and Wear OS integration may also matter if you already use compatible Galaxy devices. LTE is worth considering if you want more independence from your phone and your carrier supports the model.
It may be a poor fit if you want a small, lightweight watch, prioritize long endurance above smart features, need a dedicated sports watch, or use an iPhone and rely on functions that may be limited by Samsung’s compatibility and feature support. The bezel alone may not justify the premium positioning if you would not use it; compare the Classic with the standard Galaxy Watch8 and older Classic models against the features you actually need.
What the leak did not prove
- Final retail status: The listing did not establish whether the device was a final consumer unit, an engineering sample or another pre-release configuration.
- Seller legitimacy: The available report did not independently verify the seller’s identity or how the device was obtained.
- Final firmware: Setup screens and visible software on a pre-release unit do not guarantee final retail software or enabled features.
- Universal specifications: Regional product pages can differ in connectivity, colors, availability and feature support.
- Price and stock: Samsung’s cited Canadian pages displayed “Not for sale” when retrieved, while a Best Buy listing identified a 2025 Bluetooth model. Those page states do not establish current availability elsewhere.
For current configuration and stock, consult the product page for your country or a local retailer; do not infer availability or price across markets from the Canadian pages.
The verdict: the disbelief made sense, but the watch was real
The June 2025 listing was unofficial, yet its central clues were borne out by Samsung’s later documentation: the Galaxy Watch8 Classic name, rotating bezel, cushion-style case and 46 mm format. The striking part was not that every leak detail was guaranteed; it was that Samsung’s Classic line was returning with a redesigned silhouette and another physical control.
