It combines a 12-megapixel camera with optional 3K video, open-ear speakers, voice controls and Meta AI. Oakley’s up-to-eight-hour battery claim is for typical use—not continuous recording: in one Android Central test, continuous recording lasted 50 minutes at 1080p and 35 minutes at 3K before battery depletion.
HSTN makes most sense for short, hands-free clips, calls, music and voice assistance. It has no in-lens display, and its IPX4 rating does not make it waterproof or suitable for swimming.
Quick verdict
Oakley Meta HSTN pairs Oakley HSTN styling with Meta’s camera, microphones, open-ear audio and AI features. The eight-hour figure describes typical use; Oakley separately lists up to five hours of continuous audio playback and up to 19 hours on standby. Actual runtime varies with how you use the glasses.
Video recording is a much heavier workload. Android Central reported 50 minutes of continuous 1080p recording and 35 minutes at 3K in its test. Those are one reviewer’s results, not a guaranteed runtime for every wearer. Consider HSTN for intermittent first-person capture, calls and audio—not all-day filming or high-end video production.

What are Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses?
Oakley Meta HSTN is an Oakley-branded smart-glasses product created through the Oakley and Meta partnership. The frame is based on Oakley’s HSTN design, pronounced HOW-stuhn, and combines eyewear with a camera, microphones, open-ear speakers, batteries and phone-connected software.
Meta announced HSTN on June 20, 2025. The glasses are intended for hands-free capture and audio. They do not have an in-lens screen, heads-up display, navigation overlay or full augmented-reality interface. Meta AI responds through audio, while captured photos and videos can be viewed on a connected phone.

Eight-hour battery life: what you can realistically expect
Oakley describes up to eight hours as typical use, not continuous video recording. Its FAQ separately lists up to five hours of continuous audio playback and up to 19 hours on standby. Battery life varies with features and usage; frequent camera use, AI requests, calls and audio can reduce runtime.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Video recording can drain the battery much faster. In Android Central’s continuous-recording test, HSTN ran for 50 minutes at 1080p and 35 minutes at 3K before the battery depleted. Those figures illustrate a demanding workload under that review’s test conditions; they are not a universal benchmark or a promise of runtime for every user.
For a mixed-use day with occasional short clips, calls or audio, the typical-use figure is more relevant than the continuous-recording test. If you expect to record for longer stretches, plan for substantially shorter sessions and consider using 1080p when endurance matters more than resolution.

The charging case matters
Oakley says the charging case provides up to 48 hours of charging on the go. This is additional charging capacity, not 48 hours of continuous recording. Oakley lists a 3.5-hour full charge time for the case; for the cited US clear-lens variant, the case charges via USB-C and the cable is not included. Check the details for your selected SKU and market.
3K camera: useful detail, with limits
Oakley’s FAQ specifies 3K Ultra HD recording up to 2384 × 3168 pixels at 30 fps. The Meta AI app controls resolution and clip settings, and Oakley says the default clip length is 30 seconds, with a maximum of three minutes. App settings and options may change with software updates.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Oakley’s product listing separately gives still-image acquisition as 3024 × 4032 pixels and video acquisition up to 2203 × 2938 pixels at 30 fps. These listing figures and the FAQ’s 3K recording-mode figure describe distinct specifications; they should not be collapsed into one resolution claim.
The camera is built into the frame for point-of-view capture. It can be useful for quick travel clips, outdoor moments or demonstrations when holding a phone is inconvenient. Higher resolution does not by itself guarantee smartphone-level results: low-light detail, stabilization, dynamic range and editing flexibility still matter. HSTN is not a substitute for a dedicated action camera when you need sustained recording or more control over framing and production.
Meta AI, calls and open-ear audio
Meta AI is accessed by voice through the glasses and companion app. You can use voice controls for supported questions and capture tasks, and hear responses through the speakers. Feature availability can vary by region and language; AI responses should not be treated as guaranteed to be current or accurate.
The built-in microphones support calls and voice commands. Call performance can depend on wind, surrounding noise, phone connectivity and how the glasses fit.

Open-ear speakers let you hear audio while remaining more aware of your surroundings than with sealed earbuds. The trade-offs are less immersion, possible sound leakage at higher volumes and reduced usefulness in noisy environments.
Privacy: the camera indicator is not the whole story
The glasses have a front-facing capture indicator intended to signal photo or video capture. Oakley’s FAQ also says some camera-based AI use on newer models does not activate the external capture LED. Do not assume the indicator is active for every AI feature or treat it as a complete account of how camera data is handled.
Oakley says photos and videos used for AI features are not saved in Meta AI conversation history. That statement is specific to conversation history, not a broad promise about all data handling. Ask for consent where appropriate, follow venue rules and consider local laws on recording people or conversations.
Water resistance and outdoor use
Oakley lists HSTN as IPX4 water resistant. That rating does not make the glasses waterproof or suitable for swimming, submersion or showering. Do not choose HSTN for underwater recording.
Price, models and availability
Price and availability depend on lens configuration, seller and market. Check Oakley’s current listing for the exact frame and lens option, and confirm seller, warranty and return terms before ordering. Do not assume a launch price or a price for one lens configuration applies to another.
Lenses, prescriptions and replacement costs
Oakley lists compatible HSTN lens options, but choices, prescription support and pricing can vary by region and configuration. Check the current official product and replacement-lens listings for your exact model before purchasing. The cited Oakley listing identifies the frame style as OW8002; confirm compatibility rather than assuming a lens for an ordinary HSTN frame will fit the electronic version.

HSTN compared with Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta Vanguard
Compared with earlier Ray-Ban Meta glasses
HSTN combines Oakley styling with a 3K recording option and an eight-hour typical-use claim. Compare battery life under the same workload: typical wear, continuous audio and continuous video are different tests. The research available for this article does not verify current comparative pricing or every alternative’s current configuration.
HSTN is not Oakley Meta Vanguard
HSTN and Vanguard are distinct Oakley Meta models. Do not apply Vanguard specifications or positioning to HSTN. Compare the exact model and configuration against your intended use before buying.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should buy Oakley Meta HSTN?
- Consider HSTN for short, hands-free clips. The camera is convenient when holding a phone is impractical.
- Consider it if open-ear audio suits you. You can listen to audio or take calls without sealing off your ears.
- Consider it if you like the Oakley HSTN frame. Fit, lens choice and comfort are personal, so check the selected configuration.
- Choose something else if you need a display. HSTN does not show maps, messages or AI text in the lenses.
- Choose something else for continuous recording. The eight-hour claim is typical-use battery life, not a recording guarantee.
- Choose something else for swimming or submersion. IPX4 is not waterproofing.
- Choose something else for demanding video production. A dedicated action camera offers a different level of control and recording workflow.
Practical buying checklist
- Choose the frame and lens configuration. Verify lens options and prescription support for your market.
- Check the exact SKU and seller. Compare the selected model’s current price, warranty and return terms.
- Plan around the workload. Typical use, continuous audio and continuous recording have different battery runtimes.
- Choose recording settings deliberately. 3K provides more detail, while a less demanding setting may suit longer recording sessions.
- Check charging accessories. Oakley says a USB-C cable is not included with the cited clear-lens variant; verify your selected SKU.
- Respect privacy and water limits. Follow consent expectations and treat IPX4 as splash resistance only.
FAQ
How long does Oakley Meta HSTN battery last?
Oakley lists up to eight hours of typical use, up to five hours of continuous audio playback and up to 19 hours on standby. Runtime depends on feature use. In Android Central’s continuous-recording test, the glasses lasted 50 minutes at 1080p and 35 minutes at 3K before battery depletion.
How long can Oakley Meta HSTN record per clip?
Oakley says the default clip length is 30 seconds and the maximum is three minutes. Settings are controlled in the Meta AI app and may change with software updates.
Is the 3K camera worth it?
3K can be useful when extra detail matters, but it is optional and video recording is battery intensive. Android Central’s test found shorter continuous recording at 3K than at 1080p; that result is from one review, not a guaranteed runtime.
