The Omega De Ville Co-Axial Chronograph is a 42 mm automatic chronograph whose defining feature is a combined 60-minute and 12-hour elapsed-time counter at 3 o’clock. This review focuses on the stainless-steel Calibre 9300 versions, specifically references 431.10.42.51.01.001 (black dial) and 431.10.42.51.03.001 (blue dial). They are closely related, but reference, dial, bracelet or strap, condition and seller all matter when assessing a particular watch.

Which De Ville Co-Axial Chronograph is this?

“De Ville Co-Axial Chronograph” can refer to more than one configuration. The standard 42 mm steel models discussed here are Calibre 9300 references 431.10.42.51.01.001 with a black dial and 431.10.42.51.03.001 with a blue dial. Do not assume that specifications for these watches also describe a De Ville Hour Vision Chronograph or a precious-metal version.

The black-dial reference is listed with a stainless-steel case and bracelet by Costco; WatchCharts identifies the blue-dial reference as discontinued and lists its model specifications at its overview. Those descriptions establish details for the named references, not every De Ville chronograph. Omega’s surfaced De Ville collection page is about the Prestige third generation, not this chronograph, so it does not establish that the 9300 chronograph is currently offered new.

Specifications for the steel Calibre 9300 references

Lug width Not stated (Costco listing) 21 mm (WatchCharts model overview)

These are listing and model-overview specifications, not measurements taken from a physical watch. Confirm the precise reference and configuration against the watch and its documentation before relying on a measurement, especially when buying a replacement strap or bracelet.

How the chronograph works

The Calibre 9300 layout makes the two main elapsed-time readings available in one subdial. At 3 o’clock, the counter combines elapsed minutes up to 60 with elapsed hours up to 12; at 9 o’clock, a separate subdial shows small seconds. The central chronograph seconds hand records elapsed seconds. The arrangement is described in the launch-era product information reproduced by aBlogtoWatch.

The same Omega-attributed product description says the hour hand can be adjusted without moving the minute and seconds hands, which is useful when changing time zones. That is a product claim quoted in the publisher’s 2012 description, rather than a hands-on test of the watch reviewed here.

Size, thickness and wearing considerations

At 42 mm across and 16 mm thick in the listed steel references, this is not a slim dress chronograph. Diameter alone cannot predict fit: wrist shape, lug reach, bracelet adjustment, and whether the particular watch is on a bracelet or strap all affect how it sits. The blue reference’s listed 21 mm lug width is useful for strap planning, but do not transfer that figure to a different reference without checking it.

No physical watch was examined for this review, so comfort, balance, perceived heft and finishing in use cannot be assessed as first-hand observations. If possible, try the exact configuration on wrist; otherwise, compare its full dimensions and attachment setup with a watch you already know fits you.

Calibre 9300 versus 9301

The steel versions covered here use Calibre 9300. The launch-era product description identifies Calibre 9301 in original 18K red-gold versions and describes that movement as having an 18K gold rotor and balance bridge. The material and movement distinction matters: a red-gold De Ville is not simply the same specification in another case material. Dial and strap or bracelet choices also vary by version, so verify the exact reference rather than inferring details from a steel listing.

Availability and what a used-market listing can tell you

WatchCharts labels reference 431.10.42.51.03.001 discontinued, while Costco marks its listing for the related black-dial reference unavailable in that retailer’s channel. Neither establishes that every variant is unavailable in every country or sales channel. Treat new-old-stock and pre-owned availability as specific to the reference and market, and check the actual seller’s current listing.

A model-level resale estimate, where shown, is not a guaranteed sale price for an individual watch. Asking prices and realized prices can differ with condition, completeness, service history and market. The available information does not establish a current asking price for a specific unit.

What to verify before buying

  1. Match the reference. Check the reference number on the listing and available watch documentation. Confirm whether it is the black-dial 431.10.42.51.01.001, blue-dial 431.10.42.51.03.001, Hour Vision, or a precious-metal variant.
  2. Inspect the exact configuration and condition. Verify case material, dial, bracelet or strap, clasp, crystal, chronograph operation and date operation in person or through clear, current evidence from the seller. Confirm dimensions on the exact watch rather than assuming all similarly named models match.
  3. Ask for service provenance. Request dated service records and clarify what work was performed, by whom, and whether the documentation belongs to that watch. A listing alone does not establish mechanical condition or recent servicing.
  4. Establish seller and warranty terms. Get the return policy and any written warranty terms before paying. Costco’s listing specifically warns that its merchandise may not be covered by the manufacturer’s warranty because it is not an authorized dealer; that warning applies to that listing and should not be generalized to other sellers.
  5. Compare the complete offer. Consider the asking price alongside the watch’s condition, included bracelet or strap, box and papers if offered, service records, seller protections and warranty position. Do not treat a market estimate as a promise of value.

Who should consider it?

The De Ville Co-Axial Chronograph is worth considering if you want a substantial 42 mm automatic chronograph and value a combined 60-minute/12-hour counter rather than separate elapsed-time registers. Its 16 mm listed thickness is a material fit consideration, and a used purchase calls for close reference and provenance checks. Without a physical inspection or a verified listing, claims about an individual watch’s comfort, accuracy, condition or value would be premature.
