Choose by design and wearing role first; their published specifications and certifications also differ, but the available official information does not support a like-for-like price comparison.
Which watches are being compared?
The Omega is the Seamaster 37 mm Milano Cortina 2026, reference 522.53.37.20.04.001. It is not the separately named Seamaster Diver 300M Milano Cortina 2026; specifications for that Diver should not be applied to this 37 mm model. The Chopard compared here is the current steel L.U.C XPS 168591-3001. Chopard also offers a rose-gold XPS variant, reference 161948-5001, but its material and movement differ.

How do their cases and dials compare?
| Detail | Omega Seamaster 37 mm Milano Cortina 2026 | Chopard L.U.C XPS 168591-3001 |
|---|---|---|
| Case | 37 mm; 18K Moonshine Gold, according to OMEGA. | 40 mm stainless steel; 7.20 mm thick, according to Chopard. |
| Dial | White Grand Feu enamel with gold markers and dauphine hands, according to OMEGA. | White lacquered, grained dial, according to Chopard. |
| Strap and buckle | Brown leather strap; OMEGA specifies an 18K Moonshine Gold buckle. | Black alligator leather strap with a steel pin buckle. |
| Overall character | Gold, commemorative and rooted in Seamaster heritage. | Understated, slim and designed in the dress-watch idiom. |
The Omega is the more overt statement piece: its precious-metal case and Olympic caseback medallion make the commemorative purpose part of the watch’s identity. The Chopard’s steel case, thinner profile and restrained dial make it the quieter option under a cuff. The XPS is 3 mm wider, while the Omega’s stated case material is gold rather than steel.

What movements and certifications do they use?
Omega: Calibre 8807
OMEGA names a self-winding Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8807. The company says its Master Chronometer tests are certified by METAS. The cited launch announcement does not state a power-reserve figure or water-resistance rating, so neither should be inferred from another Seamaster. [OMEGA launch announcement]
Chopard: Calibre 96.50-L
Chopard specifies a self-winding L.U.C 96.50-L movement, certified as a chronometer by COSC. It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), has 27 jewels and provides approximately 58 hours of power reserve. Chopard gives its movement thickness as 3.3 mm and says it uses two coaxial barrels. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not results of an independent head-to-head test. [Chopard steel L.U.C XPS 168591-3001]

- Model 212.30.44.52.01.001
The certifications are not interchangeable labels: OMEGA identifies METAS-certified Master Chronometer testing, while Chopard identifies COSC chronometer certification for the steel XPS. The published details give the Chopard a specific reserve figure; the cited Omega announcement does not provide one.
What functions and water resistance are specified?
Chopard lists date, hours, minutes and small seconds for the steel XPS, with water resistance rated to 30 metres. OMEGA’s cited launch announcement focuses on the time display and does not provide a water-resistance figure. It is therefore not possible to make a complete functions or water-resistance comparison from those two sources. In particular, do not use specifications for the separate Diver 300M Milano Cortina model to fill the gaps.

How does the rose-gold Chopard differ?
The rose-gold Chopard L.U.C XPS reference 161948-5001 is a separate variant, not an alternate specification for the steel 168591-3001. Chopard lists it with calibre 96.12-L and approximately 65 hours of reserve, compared with the steel model’s calibre 96.50-L and approximately 58 hours. The Italian Chopard product page lists the rose-gold reference at €22,700; that is a regional listing for that distinct watch, not a comparable price for either main reference. Which one should you choose?
- Choose the Omega if you want a 37 mm gold watch with an enamel dial, a commemorative Olympic connection and an explicitly named METAS-certified Master Chronometer movement.
- Choose the steel Chopard if a slim, understated dress watch is the priority, or if you value the published details of its COSC-certified movement, approximately 58-hour reserve, small seconds and date.
- Consider the rose-gold XPS separately if that material is the draw; its movement and reserve differ from the steel model, and its listed Italian price applies only to its own reference.
OMEGA President and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann described the Seamaster’s role in the brand’s Olympic history, saying, “This timepiece represents our Olympic excellence since Los Angeles.” He also said the 37 mm design has remained consistent since the Melbourne 1956 Games while the brand’s timekeeping technology has evolved. Those remarks are OMEGA’s positioning for the commemorative watch, not an independent assessment. [OMEGA launch announcement]

What are the prices and availability?
Comparable current official prices for the exact Omega 522.53.37.20.04.001 and steel Chopard 168591-3001, as well as verified live availability, are not established here. Check the relevant regional official product listing or contact a boutique for current pricing and stock. Chopard’s €22,700 Italian listing is for the different rose-gold 161948-5001, so it should not be used to rank the two watches in this comparison.
