But “crowd-pleasing” depends on what you want from a pilot watch. Fratello’s hands-on reviewer found the new dials less legible than earlier versions, so dial contrast and wrist fit deserve a close look before choosing one.
Which Oris ProPilot Date is this review about?
This review centers on the current 41 mm stainless-steel reference 01 733 7805 4163-07 6 20 15LC, the grey-dial model on a leather strap listed on Oris’s US site. It is one configuration in a broader group of dial and strap options, not a stand-in for every ProPilot Date. Oris listed this reference at USD 2,350 on its US product page when accessed in 2026; that price is specific to this market, configuration and date. Oris US product page.
What changed in the redesigned ProPilot Date?
The update keeps the ProPilot’s aviation-watch identity but shifts its styling toward a more contemporary, everyday appearance. Teddy Baldassarre’s review describes sharpened case surfaces, a reworked screw-down crown, turbine-inspired bezel fluting, textured dials, color-matched date displays and the updated Lift clasp. That reviewer characterizes the changes as subtle rather than a break with the collection’s identity. Teddy Baldassarre’s review.
Fratello’s November 19, 2025 introduction describes black, chalk-grey and moss-green dial options, with applied Arabic numerals and orange accents. It reports dimensions of 41 mm across, 49 mm lug-to-lug and 11.7 mm thick. Those dimensions and descriptions refer to the introduced generation as covered by Fratello, rather than a measurement of every version. Fratello’s introduction.

How does it wear and read?
Case size and fit
The selected reference has a 41 mm case and 20 mm interhorn width, according to Oris. For fit, diameter alone is not the whole story: Fratello reports a 49 mm lug-to-lug measurement and 11.7 mm thickness for the redesigned 41 mm model. If you prefer compact watches or have a smaller wrist, compare those dimensions with a watch you already wear comfortably.
Dial legibility
The textured surfaces and color choices are central to the redesign’s appeal, but they are also where the clearest trade-off appears. In a hands-on review, Fratello’s reviewer judged the new dials to have less lume and lower contrast than the earlier generation, concluding that legibility had been compromised. The reviewer still found the watches appealing and enjoyed wearing them, and singled out the warm grey option as the most legible of the three. These are that reviewer’s impressions, not a universal measurement. Fratello’s hands-on review.

Strap, bracelet and clasp
The selected US-listed reference comes on leather; other configurations are offered on a bracelet. Teddy Baldassarre reports US prices of USD 2,350 on leather and USD 2,550 on a steel bracelet in its review, while Oris’s cited US listing establishes USD 2,350 for the specific leather reference above. Fratello’s 2025 introduction lists European introductory prices of CHF 1,950 on strap and CHF 2,250 on bracelet. Those figures come from different sources and markets, so compare the price for the exact reference and country where you are buying.
The Lift clasp is a distinctive design element praised by the Fratello hands-on reviewer, but that account notes it lacks full tool-free micro-adjustment. That matters if you regularly adjust bracelet fit through the day or seasonally; try the bracelet on if adjustment range is important to you.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the Oris ProPilot Date a crowd-pleasing addition?
It has a persuasive everyday-watch proposition if you like the ProPilot’s aviation cues but want a more modern-looking case and dial. The specified 10-bar water resistance, sapphire crystal, automatic movement and 41-hour reserve make the listed reference a practical daily-wear package on paper. The redesign also offers visible choices in dial color and strap or bracelet rather than relying on a single look.
The qualification is that contemporary styling may come at the expense of the high-contrast, instrument-like readability some buyers expect from a pilot watch. Fratello’s reviewer noticed that trade-off, and the clasp’s limited adjustment may also matter to bracelet wearers. Those points make “crowd-pleasing” a reasonable aspiration for the redesign, not an established consensus.

What to check before choosing one
- Fit: Compare the 41 mm diameter and Fratello-reported 49 mm lug-to-lug length with watches that fit you well.
- Readability: See the exact dial in person if possible, especially if strong contrast and lume matter more to you than texture and color.
- Configuration: Confirm whether you want leather or bracelet, and verify the price for the exact reference and your market.
- Bracelet adjustment: Try the Lift clasp and decide whether its adjustment range suits your wrist.
- Price context: Treat the cited US and European figures as market- and configuration-specific listings, not interchangeable global prices.
