What is the Rio 2016 Seamaster?
OMEGA identifies this model as the 41 mm steel Seamaster Diver 300M “Rio 2016” Limited Edition, reference 522.30.41.20.01.001. The self-winding watch uses OMEGA Calibre 2500 and has a listed 48-hour power reserve. Its Olympic association is expressed through edition-specific dial, bezel, and caseback details rather than a different core identity from the Diver 300M family. OMEGA’s product page supplies the model description and specifications.
What makes the Rio edition distinctive?
Copacabana-inspired dial
The black dial has a transferred wave pattern. OMEGA says it was inspired by the sidewalks of Copacabana beach, linking the watch’s familiar Seamaster wave motif to Rio de Janeiro. The dial also includes a date window at 3 o’clock.
Olympic-color bezel and commemorative caseback
The black polished ceramic, unidirectional bezel has lacquered numerals in red, blue, yellow, and green, representing the Olympic ring colors. The caseback carries the Rio 2016 logo and an individual limited-edition number. These design details are described by OMEGA and in the Swatch Group’s 4 August 2016 announcement.

How many were made?
OMEGA’s model-specific product page states that the edition comprises 3,016 pieces. The Swatch Group announcement is internally inconsistent: it says in one passage that 2,016 pieces would be produced, then gives 3,016 in its model description. The OMEGA page therefore provides the clearer model-specific count, but the historical announcement’s discrepancy should not be hidden.

How should the dimensions and features inform a review?
The listed 41 mm case, 47.40 mm lug-to-lug length, and 13.07 mm thickness give useful reference points when considering fit, but they do not establish how the watch wears on a particular wrist. The 20 mm lug spacing is relevant when assessing bracelet or strap options; the model is listed with a steel bracelet, foldover clasp, and diver extension. No hands-on fit assessment is established here.

No current market price or valuation is established here, so a buyer should not infer a resale premium or current value from the edition count alone.

For a pre-owned example, assess originality, completeness, provenance, physical condition, and service history. In particular, water resistance can depend on the seals and service condition of the specific watch; have those checked before relying on the rating. The cited sources do not provide a condition assessment or independent water-resistance test.
