The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M titanium hands-on title refers to a specific 2016 watch: the 43.5mm three-hand model with a Grade 5 titanium case and Master Chronometer calibre 8900. It is not the separate 45.5mm titanium chronograph, nor the redesigned fourth-generation Planet Ocean announced in 2025.
What the 2016 titanium Planet Ocean is
Robert-Jan Broer’s 1 August 2016 Fratello hands-on describes a 43.5mm, three-hand Planet Ocean 600M. Its Grade 5 titanium case is paired with a sandblasted titanium dial, a grey ceramic bezel with orange rubber detail, and other orange accents. Inside is Omega’s Master Chronometer calibre 8900.
The rubber-strap configuration is reference 215.92.44.21.99.001; the titanium-bracelet version is 215.90.44.21.99.001. Check the full reference when comparing listings: the article also discusses a different titanium Planet Ocean chronograph.
How the two 2016 titanium versions differ
| Configuration | Case size and movement | Exterior and reference |
|---|---|---|
| Three-hand model on rubber strap | 43.5mm; calibre 8900 | Grey structured rubber strap with orange lining; 215.92.44.21.99.001 |
| Three-hand model on titanium bracelet | 43.5mm; calibre 8900 | Titanium bracelet; 215.90.44.21.99.001 |
| Titanium chronograph | 45.5mm; calibre 9900 | A separate, larger chronograph with its own references; the Fratello article does not identify them here |
The chronograph’s 45.5mm case and calibre 9900 should not be confused with the 43.5mm time-only model’s specifications. They represent a distinct watch, not an alternate configuration of the same reference.

What Broer says about size and strap choice
Broer describes the 43.5mm watch as a comfortable all-round size for him. He says a 42mm Planet Ocean he had previously tried felt compact, while the 45.5mm chronograph seemed large. Those are the author’s personal impressions, not standardized wrist-fit measurements or a guarantee of how either watch will wear on another person.
He also preferred the grey rubber strap’s look to the more metallic appearance of the titanium bracelet. That is a matter of taste. The rubber has orange lining, which echoes the watch’s orange accents; the bracelet creates a more continuous titanium look. If choosing between them, consider the appearance you want and verify that any replacement strap or bracelet fits the exact reference.
Master Chronometer certification
The 2016 three-hand model uses calibre 8900 and is identified in the hands-on as METAS-certified. Omega’s manual for a later Planet Ocean reference explains the manufacturer’s certification process this way: “In order for a watch to become a Master Chronometer, it must pass 8 tests over 10 days.” That quotation describes Omega’s process; the cited manual is for the later reference 217.32.42.21.01.001, not the 2016 titanium model. See the official Omega manual.
Do not confuse it with the 2025 Planet Ocean redesign
Omega announced a complete fourth-generation Planet Ocean redesign with seven new watches on 18 November 2025. Its official manual for reference 217.32.42.21.01.001 specifies a 42mm titanium-steel case, rubber strap, 600m water resistance, automatic calibre 8912 and a 60-hour power reserve. These are details for that later reference, not specifications for the 2016 43.5mm titanium watch. Omega’s 2025 announcement and the 2025 Hodinkee hands-on cover the new generation; Hodinkee reports that it launched without a date display or helium escape valve.

What to check when shopping for this model
- Match the reference to the configuration: 215.92.44.21.99.001 for the rubber strap or 215.90.44.21.99.001 for the titanium bracelet.
- Confirm the watch is the 43.5mm three-hand calibre 8900 model, not the 45.5mm calibre 9900 chronograph or a later-generation Planet Ocean.
- For a pre-owned listing, check the seller, condition, return terms, warranty and service history. No current stock or market-wide pricing is established here.
- For a replacement bracelet or strap, verify compatibility with the precise reference rather than relying on the Planet Ocean name alone.
