The limited edition is identified by two references: 3693.50.81 for the leather-strap version and 3193.50 for the gold-bracelet version. Its 42 mm gold case, sapphire crystal and hand-wound caliber 1863 distinguish it from the steel ’57 Replica.
What is the Speedmaster “150th Anniversary of Omega”?
Omega introduced this commemorative watch in 1998 for the brand’s 150th anniversary. It is based on the Speedmaster ’57 Replica, which had appeared the year before. Fratello’s 2017 collector feature reports that 150 examples were made and that each gold caseback bears an individual number out of 150. That figure is the publication’s account of production, rather than an independently verified Omega production record. Fratello’s 2017 feature covers the edition, while its 2018 gold Speedmaster overview corroborates the limited run and movement details.
Which references identify the two configurations?
| Reference | Configuration |
|---|---|
| 3693.50.81 | Leather-strap version |
| 3193.50 | Gold-bracelet version |
Fratello also gives BS145.0052 as the case reference. The watch was described as originally available on a black alligator strap or an 18-carat gold bracelet, reference 1479/812. Those details describe the model’s reported configurations, not necessarily the contents or originality of any individual watch now offered for sale. Check the specific watch, its clasp and bracelet or strap, and its documented history.
What are the main specifications?
| Feature | Specification |
|---|---|
| Case | 18-carat yellow gold; 42 mm |
| Lug width | 20 mm |
| Dial and hands | Matte dial; gold broad-arrow hands and Omega logo |
| Crystal | Sapphire |
| Movement | Hand-wound Omega caliber 1863, described as a decorated version of caliber 1861 |
These specifications are reported in the 2017 Fratello feature. The sapphire crystal is one visible difference from the steel Speedmaster ’57 Replica discussed there, which used Hesalite (plexiglass).

What is distinctive about the caseback?
The gold edition’s caseback is described as carrying the NASA qualification inscription along with the individual number out of 150. Fratello contrasts this with the steel ’57 Replica, whose caseback did not have the same anniversary numbering detail. When inspecting an example, compare its markings and reference with reliable records; an inscription alone does not establish a particular watch’s originality or provenance.
What should a buyer know about price and availability?
The historical listing prices in Fratello’s 2017 article—including examples reported at €16,900 and €9,800—are not current asking prices, completed-sale results or a dependable valuation range. The article itself notes that the small number of examples makes appraisal difficult. Current availability and realized prices for references 3693.50.81 and 3193.50 are not established by these sources.

For a specific example, assess its reference and configuration, condition, originality, service documentation, box and papers, and provenance. Confirm whether the bracelet, strap and clasp are correct for that watch rather than assuming every example retains its original configuration. Fratello’s Speedmaster reference archive may help with broader reference context, but it does not establish the current value or availability of this limited edition.

A 2015 Fratello article suggested that Mark Knopfler may have worn the gold version based on photographs, while acknowledging that the identification was uncertain. It is therefore speculation, not established ownership. The article’s discussion should be read with that qualification.
