The Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Calibre 321 Platinum is a 42 mm precious-metal chronograph, reference 311.93.42.30.99.001, powered by a manually wound Calibre 321. “Full-platinum” describes its platinum-alloy case—not every part of the watch. Its onyx dial, lunar-meteorite subdials, white-gold details and leather strap make this an unusually distinctive, high-end Speedmaster rather than a standard Moonwatch in a different case.
What the “full-platinum” Speedmaster actually is
The exact leather-strap model is the Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Calibre 321 Platinum, reference 311.93.42.30.99.001. Omega Japan lists the same model under the unpunctuated reference 31193423099001. The “full-platinum” shorthand is potentially misleading: the case is platinum alloy, but the watch also uses an onyx dial, meteorite subdials, white-gold accents and a leather strap. Omega’s catalog does not describe this configuration as having a platinum bracelet.
Fratello reports the case alloy as Pt950Au20. That description refers to the case material, not the entire watch. The 42 mm case surrounds a two-layer onyx step dial with lunar-meteorite subdials, applied white-gold markers and white-gold hands. A sapphire crystal protects the dial; the platinum caseback has a sapphire display window. Omega’s Japanese catalog describes a leather strap, while Fratello specifies alligator.

Why the Calibre 321 matters
Omega says it assigned a dedicated expert team to bring the Calibre 321 back into production, a process that took two years. In its account of the revival, Omega says tomography of the Speedmaster worn on the Moon by Eugene “Gene” Cernan helped restore the movement’s original dimensions. The platinum model belongs to the initial precious-metal chapter of that revival: at a 2019 Speedy Tuesday event, Omega CEO Raynald Aeschlimann said, “The first Speedmaster with this new caliber 321 movement will be in precious metal,” as reported by Fratello.

This is not the same watch as the steel Calibre 321 Speedmaster Omega introduced in 2020. Omega describes that steel model as inspired by astronaut Edward White’s 1965 spacewalk watch. Nor should specifications of later Moonwatch movements be attributed to this platinum Calibre 321: Calibres 321, 1861 and 3861 are distinct hand-wound movements. Hodinkee’s overview notes that the 3861 added Master Chronometer certification and a co-axial escapement; those are not specifications of this platinum 321 watch.
Production, price and what the figures do—and don’t—tell you
Fratello reported an Omega estimate of 50–100 platinum watches per year in 2019. At launch, the model was described as regular production without a fixed edition size. That is a historical estimate, not confirmation of current output or present-day scarcity.

Omega Japan’s heritage catalog, accessed in 2026, lists the leather-strap platinum Calibre 321 at ¥10,065,000. It separately lists a 42 mm platinum-bracelet Calibre 321 at ¥14,960,000. These are Japan-market catalog prices, subject to change; they do not establish pricing in another country, availability, or stock. A Phillips Hong Kong auction catalog records a 2023 example of reference 311.93.42.30.99.001, but one auction record cannot establish a current market value.
Choosing between the strap and bracelet configurations
Omega’s Japanese catalog lists two 42 mm platinum Calibre 321 configurations: the leather-strap reference and a platinum-bracelet version. The catalog confirms the configurations and their listed Japan-market prices, but does not establish comparative weight, wear experience or current stock.

When comparing examples, confirm the exact reference and configuration, then assess the fit and feel of the case and strap or bracelet in person if possible. For a pre-owned watch, review its service and provenance documentation and verify the seller and authenticity independently. The Phillips auction catalog documents one example with a NATO strap and an additional leather strap; those accessories are specific to that auctioned watch, not a standard package claim for every example.

For a buyer who wants the historic hand-wound Calibre 321 in an unusually elaborate precious-metal Moonwatch, this reference makes a strong case: the platinum-alloy case, onyx and meteorite dial, and visible movement set it apart from the familiar steel Moonwatch. But “endgame” is a personal judgment, not a technical category. The 42 mm case, precious-metal construction and regional price point make fit, configuration and budget essential parts of the decision. The available catalog evidence establishes a Japan listing, not current availability elsewhere.
