The OMEGA Speedmaster Mark V reference ST 376.0806 is a 1984 automatic chronograph with calibre 1045, a day-date display and a 24-hour indication. OMEGA’s vintage record describes it as the “German version,” but that label is not proof the watch was sold only in Germany. For a specific vintage example, condition, originality and service history matter as much as the reference.
What is the Speedmaster Mark V 376.0806?
OMEGA identifies ST 376.0806 as the Speedmaster Mark V, a 1984 model. The official vintage record specifies a stainless-steel case, automatic mechanical calibre 1045, an integrated stainless-steel bracelet and water resistance of 5 bar (50 m / 167 ft). OMEGA’s vintage product record is the clearest reference point for the model’s documented configuration.
Catalogues describe the watch’s functions as chronograph, day, date and 24-hour indication. Individual listings give a 42 mm diameter; one also states a 14 mm thickness. Treat those as catalogue measurements for the examples listed, not guaranteed dimensions for every surviving watch or every measurement method. Christie’s auction record and a Hodinkee listing provide those example specifications.
What does “German version” mean?
“German version” appears in OMEGA’s model description, but it should be read as a model label rather than proof of exclusive German distribution. Fratello notes that reference 376.0806 was available more widely than only in West Germany. The label alone therefore cannot establish where a particular watch was originally sold. Fratello’s historical account discusses the designation and the model’s context.

How does it differ from other Speedmaster Mark models?
Movement and winding
The Mark V uses automatic calibre 1045. Fratello describes the movement as based on the Lemania 5100 and groups the Mark V with the Mark 4.5 as 1045-based models, distinguishing them from the Mark III and Mark IV variants discussed in its account. That is a useful starting point when comparing Mark references: check the exact reference and movement rather than assuming all watches in the Mark series share the same mechanism.
Complications and case
The Mark V combines chronograph functions with day, date and 24-hour indications. Compare the display layout and case design with the watch you are considering; “Speedmaster Mark” is a family name, not a single specification shared by every Mark model.

Bracelet and individual configuration
OMEGA records an integrated steel bracelet for this reference. Christie’s documented bracelet reference 1413/019 on one auction example, but that does not establish that every surviving 376.0806 retains that bracelet or its original clasp. Confirm the bracelet, end links and clasp on the actual watch and assess fit and completeness independently.
What should you inspect before buying one?
Condition reports describe individual watches, not the whole reference. Christie’s noted patina, hands that appeared to be replacements, bracelet stretch and a recommendation for service on its catalogued lot. Those observations are not evidence that the same issues affect every Mark V. Use them as prompts to assess the particular watch and request clear photographs, documentation or an in-person inspection where possible.

- Stainless steel case
- Black dial
- Swiss-automatic movement
- Case diameter: 40mm
- Water resistant to 330 feet
- Dial and hands: Look for condition consistent with the seller’s description, and ask whether hands or other visible parts are original or replacements.
- Chronograph: Have the start, stop and reset functions checked, including whether the hands return correctly.
- Day and date: Check that both indications advance and change as expected. Ask the seller or watchmaker to demonstrate rather than infer operation from a static photograph.
- Service history: Request dated records and clarify what work was performed. If no reliable service documentation exists, factor a professional assessment into the purchase decision.
- Bracelet and clasp: Verify the bracelet reference and clasp markings, check for stretch or missing links, and confirm that the bracelet fits. A stated model configuration does not establish that the bracelet currently fitted is original.
- Water resistance: OMEGA’s historical specification is 5 bar, but that rating does not establish the water resistance of an aged individual watch. Do not rely on it for use around water without a current pressure test by a qualified watchmaker.
What the reference can—and cannot—tell you
The reference identifies a documented 1984 Mark V configuration, including its automatic calibre 1045 and historical water-resistance rating. It does not establish an individual watch’s present condition, originality, service state, bracelet completeness or safe water resistance. The cited records also do not provide a reliable current market-wide price, production total or availability figure, so those should be assessed separately rather than inferred from one historical or auction listing.
