The 2025 OMEGA Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite pairs a manual-winding chronograph with a moonphase display for both hemispheres and a dial cut from iron meteorite. Its appeal is as much visual as functional: the black model uses a black dial and bezel, while the grey version adds blue accents. Both are 43 mm stainless-steel watches. This is a specification-based review, not a hands-on test; comfort, accuracy, winding feel and real-world legibility have not been independently assessed.

What is the Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite?

OMEGA announced the two-watch collection on January 14, 2025. The black model is reference 304.30.43.52.01.001; the grey model is 304.30.43.52.06.001. Both have 43 mm stainless-steel cases and share the same movement and functions. The distinction is principally the dial, bezel and hand-and-marker treatment, rather than a documented technical advantage for either version. OMEGA’s launch announcement describes the collection and its design.

What does it do?

The watch combines a chronograph, lunar displays, a date and running seconds. At 3 o’clock, the recorder tracks elapsed minutes up to 60 and hours up to 12. At 9 o’clock, a small-seconds subdial incorporates the date. The bezel carries a tachymeter scale, used to calculate speed over a known distance when timing a measured interval.

At 6 o’clock, two cabochon moons made from lunar meteorite indicate lunar phases for the northern and southern hemispheres. The arrangement is an unusual complement to the chronograph: it makes the moonphase more than a decorative single indicator, while adding a distinct focal point to the dial. OMEGA describes the iron-meteorite dial pattern as unique to each dial; individual patterning is therefore part of the material’s character, not a repeatable graphic finish. The movement is visible through a sapphire caseback. OMEGA’s product description details the displays and materials.

How do the black and grey versions differ?

Feature Black, 304.30.43.52.01.001 Grey, 304.30.43.52.06.001
Dial Black PVD-coated iron meteorite Galvanic-grey-coated iron meteorite on a blue PVD-coated base
Bezel Black ceramic with white enamel tachymeter scale Blue ceramic with white enamel tachymeter scale
Hands and markers 18K white-gold hands and markers Gold hour markers and hour-minute hands treated with blue PVD
Case and bracelet 43 mm stainless steel; polished and brushed steel bracelet with comfort-release adjustment 43 mm stainless steel; polished and brushed steel bracelet with comfort-release adjustment

The choice is a matter of which combination of meteorite texture and color suits you. The documented specifications do not establish that one has better legibility or is technically superior. Both use OMEGA’s comfort-release bracelet adjustment system, but diameter and bracelet features alone cannot establish how either watch will fit a particular wrist; try it on if fit is a deciding factor.

Movement, resistance and dimensions

Both references use the manual-winding Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9914. OMEGA states that the calibre resists magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss and identifies METAS as the authority behind the Master Chronometer standard; its product page describes the movement as METAS-certified. These are manufacturer specifications, not measurements made for this review. See the black reference’s OMEGA product page for its published details.

Rank #2

Hodinkee’s January 2025 launch coverage reports a 13.6 mm case thickness and a 60-hour power reserve. Those figures are secondary-reported specifications, not independent measurements for this review. Read Hodinkee’s launch coverage.

Price and buying considerations

When accessed in 2026, OMEGA Japan listed each reference at ¥2,871,000 and displayed a five-year warranty on the individual product pages. This is a Japan-market listing, not a universal price or warranty guarantee; prices and regional terms can change. Check the relevant local OMEGA market or retailer for current pricing, warranty conditions and seller authorization. OMEGA Japan pages: black reference and grey reference.

Is the Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite worth considering?

It is most compelling for someone who wants a feature-rich Speedmaster with an unusually prominent material story: iron meteorite across the dial, lunar-meteorite moons, and a two-hemisphere moonphase display alongside a conventional chronograph. The trade-off is a visually elaborate dial and a large 43 mm case; whether that combination works for you is personal and requires seeing the watch in person. The specifications make the black and grey versions functionally alike, so choose by appearance, then confirm fit and local purchase terms before deciding.
