Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph Review: A 44 mm Diver With Real Wrist Presence

The 44 mm Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph pairs Omega calibre 9900 and a 300 m rating with a very substantial case. Here’s what to know about fit, references and price.

The 44 mm Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph combines a 300 m water-resistance rating with the automatic calibre 9900, a 60-hour power reserve and Master Chronometer certification. Its appeal is straightforward: it is a technically accomplished dive chronograph. The trade-off is equally important: at 17.2 mm thick and roughly 52 mm from lug to lug in the cited examples, it wears like a substantial watch, not a discreet take on the 42 mm three-hand Diver 300M.

What this review covers

This is the chronograph-equipped, 44 mm Diver 300M family—not the slimmer, 42 mm three-hand Diver 300M. The modern steel chronograph arrived in 2019, according to Monochrome Watches, which traces the earlier Professional Chrono Diver 300M to the 1993 Seamaster Professional line. Monochrome Watches

Published specifications and reviews inform this assessment; it is not based on personal handling or testing. Dimensions, materials and prices below apply to the named references and sources, not necessarily every watch with Diver 300M Chronograph on the dial.

How large is it on the wrist?

Large is the defining fit consideration. Fratello lists its reviewed example at 44 mm in diameter, 17.2 mm thick and 52.2 mm lug-to-lug; Hodinkee reports 17.2 mm thickness and 52.8 mm lug-to-lug for the separate 007 First Light edition. Those measurements make thickness and lug span worth checking alongside diameter, especially if a watch tends to overhang your wrist or catch on a cuff. Fratello Hodinkee

Fratello reviewer Lex Stolk calls the watch “a considerable watch”—a fit judgment, not a universal rule. If possible, try the exact reference and strap or bracelet you plan to wear. The NATO First Light, rubber-strap steel model and bracelet version need not feel identical on your wrist.

What does the calibre 9900 bring?

Calibre 9900 is an automatic integrated chronograph movement with a column wheel and vertical clutch, as described by Monochrome. The cited specifications include 54 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, a 60-hour power reserve and resistance to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss. Fratello also identifies it as Co-Axial and METAS-certified. These are movement specifications, not independent performance-test results for an individual watch. Monochrome Watches Fratello

The column wheel and vertical clutch describe the mechanism that controls the chronograph; in practical terms, the chronograph is part of the watch’s central proposition rather than a decorative complication. Its combination with the 300 m dive rating is unusual in this family: Omega’s indexed user manual says the Diver 300M Chronograph pushers function in water. That does not establish that a particular used or overdue-for-service watch remains water-resistant. Omega advises annual water-resistance testing at an authorized service centre. Omega user manual

What are the watch’s dive-watch features?

The 2019 review describes the modern steel reference with a black ceramic unidirectional bezel and 60-minute scale, ceramic pushers, wave-pattern dial, date at 6 o’clock, helium escape valve, and sapphire crystal over the dial and caseback. Its chronograph display combines a 60-second and 12-hour counter at 3 o’clock, with small seconds at 9 o’clock. These details describe the reviewed configuration; verify the materials and layout against the exact reference you are considering. Monochrome Watches

The 300 m rating and operable underwater pushers make the chronograph more than a surface-only styling exercise, but they do not remove the need to maintain and check water resistance. Treat a rating as a specification for a properly functioning, maintained watch—not as a guarantee for an unknown individual example.

Which version should you compare?

Configuration changes the look, materials and wearing experience. The documented standard black-dial steel choices include bracelet reference 210.30.44.51.01.001 and rubber reference 210.32.44.51.01.001. The 007 First Light is reference 210.32.44.51.01.002, a distinct edition described by Hodinkee as a 44 mm steel chronograph with black ceramic elements and a NATO strap. Blue and grey dial versions and precious-metal combinations are also reported across the broader family; do not assume that specifications for one reference transfer to another. Fratello Hodinkee

Reference or configuration What the cited source establishes
210.30.44.51.01.001 Black-dial steel chronograph on bracelet; Fratello lists it as a 44 mm family reference.
210.32.44.51.01.001 Black-dial steel chronograph on rubber; Monochrome’s reviewed example.
210.32.44.51.01.002 007 First Light edition on NATO; Hodinkee reports 52.8 mm lug-to-lug. Do not apply this edition’s details to other references.

For a like-for-like comparison, confirm the reference, strap or bracelet, dial and bezel materials, dimensions, movement specification and local price. The available cited coverage does not establish every one of those details for every colorway or precious-metal variant.

What did the cited US prices look like?

Hodinkee’s May 2026 article reported US prices of $9,200 for the standard steel chronograph on rubber, $9,600 on bracelet and $9,400 for the 007 First Light reference. These are reported prices from that article, not verified live Omega checkout prices; check current pricing, availability, market and exact reference with Omega or a retailer before buying. Hodinkee

Who is it for—and who should look elsewhere?

It makes sense if

  • You specifically want a mechanical chronograph that retains a substantial dive-watch specification.
  • You value calibre 9900’s reported 60-hour reserve, METAS certification and magnetic resistance specification.
  • You like a bold, high-presence watch and have checked the fit of the exact reference.

Consider another watch if

  • You want the proportions of the 42 mm three-hand Diver 300M; this chronograph is a distinct, larger design.
  • You prefer a low-profile case, short lug span or easy cuff clearance.
  • You do not need a chronograph and would rather avoid paying for and wearing a more complex, bulky watch.

Verdict

The Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph earns its place through the pairing of calibre 9900 and serious dive-watch capability, including pushers Omega’s manual says function in water. But the specification only justifies the purchase if the scale suits you: 44 mm across, 17.2 mm thick and more than 52 mm lug-to-lug in the cited examples is a major wrist commitment. Try the exact version, verify its condition and current market price, and buy it for the chronograph-and-diver combination—not as a larger substitute for the three-hand model.
