The Omega Speedmaster Professional 145.022-69 is a stainless-steel vintage Speedmaster associated with calibre 861. Its suffix identifies a case-back version, not the exact production year of an individual watch. Painted-logo and stepped-dial examples are characteristic, but bezels, case backs, and bracelets vary. An Omega Extract from the Archives can add production-record context; Omega explicitly says it is not an authenticity certificate.

What the 145.022-69 designation tells you

The 145.022-69 belongs to the Speedmaster Professional generation using calibre 861, which Omega says was first used in the Speedmaster in 1968. The movement replaced calibre 321 and uses a shuttle cam rather than a column wheel; Omega lists its frequency as 21,600 v/h. Omega’s Speedmaster history provides that movement background.

The “-69” is associated with a case-back execution used across more than one production year. Fratello describes this version as produced from 1969 to 1971, so the suffix alone cannot date a particular watch. Fratello’s reference overview discusses the period and variations.

Which details are characteristic, and which vary?

A painted Omega dial logo and stepped dial are common identifying traits of the -69, but no single visible detail should be treated as universal proof that a watch is original. Fratello notes that some watches have a Dot Over Ninety bezel and that not every -69 did. Case backs include an early seahorse-only design and later versions with inscriptions connected to the lunar landing and NASA qualification. Fratello and its buyer’s guide describe these variations.

Watch Band Replacement for Omega Speedmaster 311.30.42 Moonwatch 1861 20mm
  • 20mm Stainless Steel Watch Bracelet ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH OLD OMEGA SPEEDMASTER 311 SERIES, CAL.1861 MOONWATCH. NOT FIT NEW 310 / 3861 MODELS.
  • Equipped with original style wide folding clasp, without telescopic extension system.
  • Perfect fit for 311 series, NOT compatible with newer 310 3861 model.
  • Package includes: 1 band, 2 spring bars. Links can be removed to adjust bracelet length.
  • Precise gap matching for old case Speedmaster Professional. Please double-check your watch model and movement before purchase. Same 20mm lug width does NOT guarantee compatibility.

Bracelets also require watch-specific checking. Reported bracelet references include 1039, 1171, 1116, and 1175; a bracelet’s presence or fit does not by itself establish that it is correct to a particular watch. Check the reference and end links against the specific configuration rather than relying on a general listing.

How to assess a specific example

Evaluate the watch as a combination of parts and evidence, not as a checklist where one matching feature settles the question.

  • Movement and serial information: Compare the movement and serial details with any documentation and the claimed configuration.
  • Dial and hands: Inspect the painted logo, stepped profile, indexes, and hands together. Ask about replacement parts, restoration, and service work.
  • Bezel and case back: Record the bezel markings and case-back execution. A DON bezel or a particular inscription may be plausible, but neither is required on every -69.
  • Bracelet: Check the bracelet reference and end links for the particular watch; do not assume compatibility equals period correctness.
  • Condition and service history: Assess wear and originality, ask for service records, and consider an independent inspection before purchase.
  • Documentation and seller confidence: Separate archive paperwork from physical examination, and weigh the seller’s evidence alongside the watch’s condition and configuration.

There is no current fair-price range established here. Compare only examples with reasonably similar condition, originality, configuration, documentation, and seller confidence; a price comparison between materially different variants can mislead.

What an Omega Extract from the Archives can establish

An extract can report details from Omega’s production archives for an individual watch, such as a production date and recorded configuration. A reproduced Omega extract for an ST 145.022 lists calibre 861, a black dial with luminous indexes, a stainless-steel case and bracelet, production on September 29, 1971, and delivery to Switzerland. That is a record for that specific example, not a date or specification applicable to every 145.022-69. The reproduced extract and reference coverage provide this example.

The extract also states that it was prepared from information submitted by the client and Omega production archives, without professional examination of the timepiece by Omega’s Heritage Department. It says it is neither a Certificate of Authenticity nor evidence of the authenticity of the watch or any component, and it does not prove ownership. Treat it as archive evidence: useful for checking whether recorded details align with a watch, but not a substitute for examining the watch and its parts.

A separate auction example illustrates why condition claims must remain specific. Christie’s reported an archive manufacture date of March 19, 1970 for its lot; its cataloguing described the watch as working but said accuracy had not been tested and recommended service given its age. Those findings apply to that lot only, not to the reference generally. Christie’s lot report gives the case-specific details.

How to use the evidence when buying

Start by confirming that the seller’s description distinguishes the 145.022-69 from a broader Speedmaster family label. Then compare the physical configuration with the documentation and ask which parts are original, replaced, or serviced. If an extract is offered, read its actual recorded details and limitations rather than treating the document’s existence as authentication. For an expensive or uncertain example, an independent specialist inspection can address the physical watch in a way an archive extract cannot.
