The Speedy Tuesday “Ultraman” is Omega and Fratello’s 2018 Speedy Tuesday 2 limited edition, reference 311.12.42.30.01.001. It is a 42 mm, hand-wound Speedmaster based on the Moonwatch, limited to 2,012 pieces, and designed as a tribute to an earlier Ultraman-associated Speedmaster and the Japanese television character. It is not the first Speedy Tuesday edition, nor is it the earlier watch that inspired it.
What the Speedy Tuesday Ultraman is
Fratello introduced the model as “ST2 – ‘Ultraman’” in July 2018. It was the second Speedy Tuesday limited edition, created with Omega and Fratello. Its reference is 311.12.42.30.01.001; Phillips independently identifies that reference for the Ultraman in its Spring 2023 auction catalogue. Do not confuse it with the related Speedy Tuesday 2 reference 311.32.42.30.01.001, which is not the Ultraman. Fratello’s launch account describes it as based on the 42 mm Moonwatch and powered by a hand-wound calibre 1861.

Phillips’ auction catalogue describes a circa-2018 stainless-steel example with a manual calibre 1861, 18 jewels, and a 42 mm diameter. Its details refer to the catalogued watch, not every example or current listing.
How its design signals “Ultraman”
The familiar black-dial Moonwatch layout is punctuated by orange details. The most conspicuous is the orange central chronograph hand; an applied vintage-style Omega logo and a small Beta Capsule-shaped hand add less obvious distinctions. The capsule nods to Ultraman’s transformation device, while a silhouette on the dial becomes visible under ultraviolet light. These details make the watch recognizably different from a standard Moonwatch without changing its basic 42 mm Speedmaster form.

UV details and included accessories
Fratello’s launch description says the UV light reveals a silhouette on the dial and that the presentation also uses UV-revealed details. The launch set included a black leather strap with orange stitching and a tool styled after the Beta Capsule that combines a strap-changing tool with a UV lamp. Phillips documented one auction example accompanied by a NATO strap, warranty, pictograms card, manual, product literature, an additional strap, UV tool, and presentation packaging. Catalogue descriptions establish what accompanied those particular lots; they do not guarantee identical contents for every original set or for a watch being offered now.
Which “original Ultraman” does it refer to?
The 2018 edition is a tribute, not the original Ultraman-associated Speedmaster itself. Fratello describes the earlier watch as an “infamous 1967 watch.” Phillips, discussing the character’s screen history, says the original Ultraman Speedmaster appeared in The Return of Ultraman in 1971. These dates refer to distinct points: the former is a date associated with the earlier watch, while the latter is the television-series appearance. The cited accounts do not establish a fuller production history for that earlier watch.

That distinction matters when identifying the 2018 model: it is the modern, numbered Speedy Tuesday 2 tribute, with its own reference and design cues. Calling it simply “the original Omega Speedmaster Ultraman” can blur the difference between the limited edition and the earlier watch that inspired it.

The limited edition’s reference and accessories are useful identification clues, but a catalogue entry for one watch is not proof of another watch’s authenticity, condition, or completeness. For an individual listing, assess the watch and its paperwork together.

Auction catalogues show that examples have appeared at auction, but they do not establish current availability or a representative current value. Verify the details of any live listing rather than treating a past lot as a price guide.
