One UI 8 Watch is no longer a new beta story. Samsung announced the beta on June 16, 2025, initially for users in South Korea and the United States. Its four headline health tools—Bedtime Guidance, Vascular Load, Running Coach and Antioxidant Index—are best understood as wellness features that encourage healthier routines, not as medical tests.

This updated explainer covers what each feature does, which watches and phones qualify, why results need consistent data, and whether an existing owner should try beta software or buy newer hardware in 2026.

The short answer

One UI 8 Watch adds four prominent health and fitness tools:

  • Bedtime Guidance recommends a target bedtime based on sleep pressure and circadian-rhythm analysis.
  • Vascular Load estimates cardiovascular-system strain during sleep.
  • Running Coach builds a training plan after assessing the user’s running level.
  • Antioxidant Index estimates carotenoid levels in the skin using the watch’s BioActive Sensor.

Samsung presents these tools as ways to support healthier decisions and personal habit tracking. They are not designed to diagnose disease, replace a clinician or determine whether someone should change medication or treatment. Availability depends on the watch model, market, paired phone, Android version and Samsung Health software. Samsung’s announcement contains the original feature and eligibility details.

#1 Best Overall
Google Pixel Watch 3 (45mm) Latest Model - Matte Black Aluminum Case - Obsidian Band - Wi-Fi (Renewed)
  • The Google Pixel Watch 3 is designed for performance, with advanced fitness from Fitbit[1,2]; the 45mm screen is twice as bright and 40% larger than before, making it easier to see your stats and info[1]
  • Maximize your performance with advanced running features; build custom run workouts and get real-time guidance and advanced form tracking[3]
  • Enhance your run routine with Fitbit Premium; Google AI uses your goals, past runs, and readiness to power personalized run recommendations[3]
  • Know what your body is ready for each day with readiness; it uses sleep, resting heart rate, and heart rate variability to show if you’re ready to take on a workout or prioritize recovery[3]
  • Cardio load measures how hard your heart works so you can see how hard you’ve pushed; compare trends to see if you’re under- or over-training[3]

What One UI 8 Watch is

One UI 8 Watch is Samsung’s watch software layer associated with the Galaxy Watch8 generation and later updates for compatible earlier watches. It combines Samsung’s health and fitness tools with a glanceable interface, Multi-Info Tiles, the Now Bar and Wear OS functionality on supported Galaxy Watch models.

It should not be described simply as “Android 16 for watches.” One UI Watch and the underlying Wear OS release are related but distinct software layers, and an update to one does not automatically mean that every Android-phone feature is available on every Galaxy Watch.

The original beta was announced on June 16, 2025. Samsung later announced One UI 8 Watch availability for the Galaxy Watch Ultra on July 22, 2025. In 2026, this is therefore a retrospective and compatibility guide rather than a breaking-news beta announcement. Samsung’s U.S. offers page now highlights the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2, while also listing Watch8, Watch8 Classic, Watch7 and the original Ultra.

Feature eligibility at a glance

Feature Phone requirement Samsung Health Watch requirement
Bedtime Guidance Android 11 or later Version 6.30.2 or later Compatible Galaxy Watch with usable sleep data
Vascular Load Android 10 or later Version 6.30.2 or later Galaxy Watch Ultra or later released Galaxy Watch series
Running Coach Android 10 or later Version 6.30.2 or later Galaxy Watch7 or later released Galaxy Watch series
Antioxidant Index Android 10 or later Version 6.30.2 or later Galaxy Watch Ultra or later released Galaxy Watch series

All four require a Samsung account. Samsung also says availability can vary by country, carrier, watch model and paired smartphone. The table describes the published requirements, not a guarantee that every owner in an eligible category can access every feature.

What the four tools actually do

Bedtime Guidance: a recommended sleep schedule

Bedtime Guidance uses three days of sleep analysis, together with sleep pressure and circadian-rhythm information, to recommend a target bedtime. In ordinary use, it might encourage someone to go to bed earlier after several short nights or to keep a more consistent schedule.

The recommendation is an algorithmic wellness prompt, not a sleep-clinic assessment. It needs usable historical data, so a user who has just installed the software—or who rarely wears the watch overnight—should not expect meaningful guidance immediately. Consistent overnight wear gives the feature more information to work with.

Samsung lists Android 11 or later, Samsung Health 6.30.2 or later and a Samsung account as requirements. Bedtime Guidance is not intended to diagnose or treat a sleep disorder.

Vascular Load: a sleep-based personal trend

Samsung describes Vascular Load as an estimate of stress on the vascular system during sleep. It requires the watch to be worn while sleeping for at least three days within the previous 14 days.

The useful interpretation is a personal trend: if readings change alongside sleep, training or other routine changes, the metric may help the user notice patterns. It is not a blood-pressure reading, and a high or low result does not establish a cardiovascular diagnosis.

Samsung identifies Vascular Load as a Labs feature that could be previewed before official launch. It is limited to the Galaxy Watch Ultra or later released Galaxy Watch series, subject to market and device restrictions. That makes it a particularly poor reason to assume that every Watch5-or-newer owner will receive the same feature set.

Rank #2
Google Pixel Watch 3 (41mm) 2024 Model - Android Smartwatch, Heart Rate Tracking, Fitbit Advanced Running, Fitness Insights, 24-Hour Battery - Matte Black Aluminum Case - Obsidian Band - LTE
  • The Google Pixel Watch 3 is designed for performance, with advanced fitness from Fitbit[1,2]; the 41mm screen is twice as bright and 10% larger than before, making it easier to see your stats and info[1]
  • Cardio load measures how hard your heart works so you can see how hard you’ve pushed; compare trends to see if you’re under- or over-training[3]; and receive a daily target based on cardio load and readiness levels

Running Coach: structured training after a level test

Running Coach requires a running-level test before it creates a personalized program. The goal is to give the user structured guidance based on an assessed running level instead of leaving them to choose arbitrary distances or intensities.

“Personalized” here means adapted to watch-collected activity information; it does not mean clinically individualized. A plan cannot replace medical clearance, a qualified coach or a rehabilitation program for someone with an injury or health condition. Its recommendations are also only as useful as the activity data behind them.

Samsung lists Running Coach for the Galaxy Watch7 series or later released Galaxy Watch series, with availability varying by market and device.

Antioxidant Index: an estimate of skin carotenoid levels

Antioxidant Index uses the Galaxy Watch’s BioActive Sensor to estimate carotenoid levels stored in the skin. Samsung says a reading takes about five seconds: place a finger on the sensor on the back of the watch, with the thumb recommended for the most accurate results.

This is narrower than saying the watch measures a person’s overall antioxidant status. Samsung presents skin carotenoid levels as an indicator associated with dietary and lifestyle habits. A result may encourage someone to eat more carotenoid-rich fruit and vegetables, but it cannot prove that a particular food improved health, measure every antioxidant in the body or predict protection from disease.

Sensor placement matters. Samsung warns that repeated readings caused by uneven skin texture may be inaccurate. Clean, consistent positioning is more useful than repeatedly checking in search of a preferred number.

Who could join the original beta?

Samsung’s published beta eligibility covered users in South Korea and the United States with a Galaxy Watch5 series or later released Galaxy Watch series. Access could still vary by market, carrier, model and paired phone, so “Watch5 or newer” was an eligibility category rather than a promise of enrollment for every owner.

The beta should not be confused with a worldwide stable rollout. Samsung’s One UI beta information describes participation as a way to preview features and provide feedback about performance, stability and usability. The exact availability and enrollment process can change by release and country.

Why beta software deserves caution

A watch beta can affect more than the appearance of the interface. Possible problems include:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Shorter or less predictable battery life.
  • App crashes or compatibility issues.
  • Notification, pairing or connectivity failures.
  • Unreliable sensor behavior during workouts or sleep tracking.
  • Instability at times when the watch is needed for travel, work or safety.

Do not treat beta software as suitable for medical monitoring merely because it includes health-related features. Anyone who depends on ECG, irregular-heart-rhythm alerts, sleep-apnea detection or other safety-critical functions should generally wait for stable firmware unless Samsung explicitly confirms that the required functions remain supported.

Rank #3
Google Pixel Watch 3 (45mm) 2024 Model - Android Smartwatch, Heart Rate Tracking, Fitbit Advanced Running, Fitness Insights, 24-Hour Battery - Matte Hazel Aluminum Case - Hazel Band - Wi-Fi
  • The Google Pixel Watch 3 is designed for performance, with advanced fitness from Fitbit[1,2]; the 45mm screen is twice as bright and 40% larger than before, making it easier to see your stats and info[1]

There is no universal, model-independent rollback procedure to quote. If returning to stable software matters, verify the instructions for the specific country, watch model and Samsung Members release before enrolling. Keep the watch backed up where supported and assume troubleshooting may be necessary.

Android compatibility is not the same as Galaxy-phone compatibility

Some Samsung Health wellness features support a broad range of Android phones, subject to the stated Android and app versions. That does not mean every Samsung feature works on every Android handset.

Samsung Health Monitor functions have stricter requirements. For example, Samsung’s U.S. blood-pressure monitoring feature requires a compatible Galaxy Watch, a compatible Galaxy phone running Android 12 or later, and calibration with a separate upper-arm cuff every 28 days. It is also region restricted and is not intended to diagnose disease. See Samsung’s blood-pressure monitoring information for the applicable requirements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That distinction matters to owners of Pixel, OnePlus and other non-Samsung Android phones. A watch may pair with the phone and support general Samsung Health tracking while still excluding Samsung Health Monitor features. Imported watches and phones can also encounter regional restrictions based on where the devices were purchased.

Wellness tools versus medical features

General wellness tools Separate medical or regulated capabilities
Bedtime Guidance Sleep Apnea
Vascular Load ECG
Running Coach Irregular-heart-rhythm notifications
Antioxidant Index Blood-pressure monitoring

The four One UI 8 Watch headline features are intended for general wellness and personal reference. Samsung advises users with medical concerns to consult a health professional. Do not use a favorable score to dismiss symptoms, or an unfavorable score to change medication, training or treatment without appropriate medical advice.

What to do if a feature is missing

  1. Confirm the watch model. Vascular Load and Antioxidant Index have Ultra-or-later hardware restrictions; Running Coach begins with Watch7-or-later eligibility.
  2. Check Android. Bedtime Guidance requires Android 11 or later; the other three list Android 10 or later.
  3. Update Samsung Health. Samsung lists version 6.30.2 or later for these features.
  4. Check the Samsung account and region. Market, carrier and paired-phone restrictions can prevent access.
  5. Collect enough data. Bedtime Guidance needs three days of sleep analysis, while Vascular Load needs at least three nights within the previous 14 days.
  6. Complete the running-level test. Running Coach does not begin with a plan until that assessment is finished.
  7. Improve sensor technique. For Antioxidant Index, clean the sensor, use the recommended finger and avoid repeated readings when skin texture is interfering.

Should you install a beta, wait or upgrade?

Try a beta if

  • You own an eligible watch in a supported market.
  • You want to experiment with sleep, running or nutrition-oriented insights.
  • You can tolerate battery, connectivity and app problems.
  • You do not depend on the watch for essential medical alerts.

Wait for stable software if

  • You rely on the watch overnight for health tracking.
  • You need dependable notifications, ECG or rhythm alerts.
  • The watch is your only wearable and you cannot easily recover from a failed update.
  • You need reliable operation for work, travel or safety.

Consider newer hardware if

  • You specifically want Vascular Load or Antioxidant Index and your current watch is not an Ultra or qualifying later model.
  • You own a watch below the Watch5 generation.
  • You want current software support rather than a feature set introduced in a 2025 beta.
  • You are comparing older Watch8 stock with Samsung’s current 2026 Watch9 and Watch Ultra2 lineup.

Buying context in 2026

Do not buy a Watch8 solely because of a historical beta announcement. Buy into the wider Samsung Health and One UI Watch ecosystem, and verify that the specific feature you want is supported by the exact model and market.

Samsung’s June 2026 U.S. MSRP sheet listed the Galaxy Watch8 Bluetooth models at $349.99 for 40mm and $379.99 for 44mm; LTE models were listed at $399.99 and $429.99. The Watch8 Classic was listed at $499.99 Bluetooth and $549.99 LTE. The original Galaxy Watch Ultra was listed at $649.99. Prices are subject to change. See the MSRP sheet and Watch8 product page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Watch8 is a sensible fit for someone who wants Samsung Health, mainstream fitness tracking and the Watch8 design. The Watch8 Classic suits buyers who prefer a traditional physical design. The Ultra is more relevant to users who specifically want Ultra-class hardware and the features Samsung restricts to that tier, as well as outdoor-focused durability.

For a new purchase, Samsung’s U.S. offers page accessed in August 2026 highlighted the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2. It advertised trade-in credits of up to $250, subject to change. Newer models are the more forward-looking choice; a discounted Watch8 can make more sense if its supported features already meet your needs.

Android users outside Samsung’s ecosystem can also consider the Google Pixel Watch 4, listed from $349.99 with 41mm, 45mm and LTE versions. It is a better fit for people invested in Pixel phones, Google services, Gemini and Fitbit/Google Health. It will not provide Samsung-exclusive One UI Watch or Samsung Health Monitor integration.

If blood-pressure monitoring is the goal, budget for a compatible upper-arm cuff because Samsung requires calibration every 28 days. The cuff is not optional, and the watch estimate does not replace a validated home monitor or clinical advice.
