Meta launched Meta Glasses on June 23, 2026. Built with EssilorLuxottica, the new collection starts at $299 in the U.S., uses Meta AI powered by Muse Spark in the U.S. and Canada, and has a camera, open-ear speakers, microphones, and voice controls—but no in-lens display. That makes Meta Glasses a lower-cost entry point to Meta’s AI-wearables ecosystem, not a pair of augmented-reality glasses.
They sit alongside Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta, and the display-equipped Meta Ray-Ban Display. The right choice depends mainly on whether you prioritize price, fashion, sports use, or visual information in the lens.

What Meta launched
Meta Glasses are a new Meta-branded collection developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica. Meta says the launch collection includes 26 combinations of frames, colors, and lenses, with designs including Adventurer, Fury, and Starfire variants. Colors, stock, and regional availability may change.
Meta announced the glasses on June 23, 2026. They are available in the U.S. through Meta.com, Best Buy, Amazon, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut, and selected retailers, although availability varies by market, frame, and lens configuration.

The important distinction is branding: Meta Glasses are not simply a renaming of Ray-Ban Meta. They are a separate, broader-access line within Meta’s growing portfolio of camera-equipped AI glasses.
What Meta Glasses can do
Meta Glasses combine several functions in an ordinary eyewear form factor:
- Meta AI: Voice-controlled assistance, questions, and help with everyday tasks.
- Visual understanding: The camera can provide Meta AI with information about what the wearer is looking at, subject to supported features, permissions, connectivity, and regional availability.
- Hands-free capture: Take photos and videos from the wearer’s point of view.
- Open-ear audio: Listen to music, calls, and spoken AI responses without blocking the ear canal.
- Microphones: Make calls and issue voice commands.
- Action button: Invoke Meta AI or assign another preferred function.
- Prescription support: Meta says the glasses are compatible with prescription lenses.
Meta also highlights a rebuilt AI experience powered by its Muse Spark model. The company describes this as providing better answers, stronger contextual understanding, calendar assistance, and help with daily-life tasks. Those are vendor descriptions rather than independent measurements of accuracy, latency, or camera quality.

Not every capability discussed by Meta should be treated as available everywhere on launch day. Dynamic Photo, which captures multiple frames and recommends a preferred shot, and expanded live translation support are tied to software availability and rollout conditions. Meta also described pedestrian navigation for displayless glasses as planned or coming soon.
Live translation languages, including Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, and Korean, may depend on country, language, account, device, and software version. Check the current regional product and support pages before buying if a particular language or feature is essential.
Do Meta Glasses have a display?
No. Meta Glasses are displayless. They cannot place navigation arrows, captions, notifications, or AI answers directly in front of your eye. Interactions happen through voice, audio, the phone app, and the camera.

This separates them from Meta Ray-Ban Display, which has a color display in the right lens. Meta Ray-Ban Display launched in the U.S. at $799 and is aimed at people who specifically want visual notifications, navigation, translations, and other screen-based interactions.
The absence of a display is both an advantage and a limitation. Meta Glasses look and behave more like conventional eyewear and may be less visually distracting. But anyone expecting an AR overlay should choose a display-equipped product instead.
Price and prescription costs
Meta Glasses start at $299 in the U.S. That is not an all-in price for every configuration. Prescription lenses, polarized or photochromic options, premium lenses, taxes, shipping, and retailer pricing can increase the total.
Prescription compatibility is model-specific. A prescription wearer may need an authorized seller or optician, and the available power range, lens material, treatments, frame fit, and fulfillment time can vary. “Prescription compatible” does not mean every prescription works in every frame.
For context, official U.S. Ray-Ban listings show examples of Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 configurations at $379, $459, and $499, depending on frame and lens configuration. These are comparison examples, not a complete price list. The display-equipped Meta Ray-Ban Display launched at $799.

Meta Glasses versus Ray-Ban Meta
Choose Meta Glasses if the $299 entry point and Meta-branded collection appeal to you, provided you do not need a display or a particular Ray-Ban frame. Choose Ray-Ban Meta instead if styling, familiar frame shapes, or a specific prescription configuration matters more than the lowest starting price.
Both are displayless AI glasses that depend on a phone, app, account, connectivity, and supported software. The available evidence does not establish that Meta Glasses have universally better camera quality, battery life, or AI accuracy than every Ray-Ban Meta model.
Meta Glasses versus Oakley Meta
Oakley Meta is the more natural fit for sports and outdoor use. Cited Oakley models advertise open-ear speakers, a five-microphone array, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, 32GB of storage, sport-oriented lens choices, and model-specific battery claims. Oakley HSTN lists approximately eight hours of advertised battery life, while Oakley Vanguard lists up to six hours of continuous audio, nine hours of typical use, and additional case capacity.
Those figures belong to the cited Oakley models, not Meta Glasses. Choose Oakley for its athletic fit, lens system, and outdoor positioning; choose Meta Glasses for the lower entry price and more general-purpose eyewear approach.
What setup requires
Meta Glasses are not independent AI computers that work fully offline. Expect to need:
- A compatible iPhone or Android phone.
- The Meta AI app.
- A Meta account.
- Bluetooth and wireless internet for connected features.
- Permissions for relevant functions, which may include the camera, microphone, contacts, location, or notifications.
- Charging and periodic software updates.
Connected features may be reduced if the phone is out of range, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi is disabled, the app is outdated, permissions are denied, Meta’s service is unavailable, or the country and language are unsupported. Ray-Ban’s product information lists a 13+ age minimum for its Meta products; specific features may have additional regional or age restrictions.

Battery, heat, and everyday limitations
Do not assume that the $299 model matches the battery claims of another Meta glasses family. Battery life changes with audio playback, camera use, calls, AI activity, network conditions, temperature, settings, and software. Continuous recording, live AI use, and poor connectivity can reduce runtime substantially.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Official Ray-Ban pages warn that very high or low temperatures can affect operation and permanently shorten battery life. Treat the glasses as connected consumer electronics, not automatically as ruggedized outdoor equipment. Verify the exact model’s weather, charging, and durability documentation before using it in demanding conditions.
Also verify what is included in the box. Some current Ray-Ban and Oakley pages state that a USB-C charging cable is not included; that should not automatically be assumed for Meta Glasses.
Privacy and recording etiquette
Privacy is a central buying consideration. The glasses include a camera that can record people and places from the wearer’s perspective. A recording indicator is intended to signal capture, but bystanders may not notice it or understand what it means.
Before using the camera or visual AI:
- Ask identifiable people for permission where appropriate.
- Follow venue rules in workplaces, schools, medical settings, homes, and private businesses.
- Avoid recording sensitive conversations, documents, screens, or private spaces without authorization.
- Do not assume the indicator light settles the legal or ethical question in your jurisdiction.
- Review account and app permissions, and protect the glasses if they remain signed in to your Meta account.
AI features may involve visual, audio, location, account, and cloud-connected data. Exact practices can differ by feature and region, so read the applicable Meta privacy and product documentation rather than assuming all functions process data in the same way.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWho should buy Meta Glasses?
- Buy them for everyday AI and capture if you want hands-free photos, calls, music, voice notes, and spoken assistance in conventional-looking eyewear.
- Buy them as a prescription wearer only after confirming the exact frame, lens options, prescription range, fitting process, final price, and return policy.
- Choose Ray-Ban Meta if Ray-Ban styling or a particular fashion or prescription frame is the deciding factor.
- Choose Oakley Meta if athletic fit, performance lenses, and outdoor use matter more than the lowest price.
- Choose Meta Ray-Ban Display if you specifically need information, notifications, navigation, or translations shown in the lens.
- Skip camera glasses if you need a camera-free wearable, fully offline operation, or are uncomfortable with the privacy and cloud-service trade-offs.
Verdict
Meta Glasses are best understood as a lower-cost gateway into Meta’s AI-glasses ecosystem. At $299, they broaden access to displayless camera glasses with Meta AI, open-ear audio, voice controls, and prescription support. They are not AR glasses, not fully standalone devices, and not automatically a better choice than Ray-Ban Meta or Oakley Meta.
The purchase makes the most sense when you want hands-free AI and capture at the lowest listed entry price. If you want a display, choose Meta Ray-Ban Display; if you want established fashion styling, compare Ray-Ban Meta; and if you need sport-focused eyewear, compare Oakley Meta.
