Before choosing one, decide whether you’ll enjoy an automatic’s ownership experience, check how its case fits your wrist, and confirm the exact reference and seller terms.
What the Kamasu offers as a first watch
Orient Watch USA lists the black-dial Kamasu Diver reference RA-AA0001B39B with a 41.88 mm stainless-steel case, sapphire crystal, day-date display, in-house F6922 automatic movement, stainless-steel bracelet and a manufacturer-stated water-resistance rating of 200 m. Those are the published specifications for that reference; the Kamasu name covers variants, so check the specific model you are considering on Orient’s Kamasu product page.

The 200 m figure is Orient’s stated rating, not evidence here of independent testing or ISO diver certification. Likewise, published dimensions cannot tell you how the watch will sit or feel on your wrist.

An automatic watch is powered by a mechanical movement that winds as you wear it. That can be part of the appeal if you want a traditional mechanical watch and enjoy the interaction of wearing and setting it. It is not inherently a better first watch than quartz: the right choice depends on whether you prefer that mechanical experience or the simplicity of a quartz watch.
#1 Best Overall
- Powered by the Orient F922 Automatic / Hand-Winding / Hacking Movement
- Case Dimensions: 41.8 mm Diameter, 47 mm Lug to Lug Length, 12.8 mm Thick, 22 mm Lug Width
- Feature: Sapphire Crystal, Day, Date, Screwdown Crown, 120-Cliick Unidirectional Bezel
- Dial Color: Red
- Water resistant 200m (660ft): in general, suitable for professional marine activity and serious surface water sports, but not diving
A recent r/Watches post captures the practical question: whether a Kamasu would work as a first and everyday watch. It reflects one poster’s interest, not a broader finding about owners or buyers.
Check fit before committing
The listed 41.88 mm case diameter is a useful starting point, but it cannot predict comfort on its own. If possible, try the watch on in person and assess how the case and bracelet sit, whether the watch feels comfortable through a normal day, and whether you like its visual size. A 6.5-inch wrist, for example, is not enough information to guarantee that it will fit well.

- Consider the watch with its bracelet on, not just the case dimensions.
- Check whether the bracelet can be adjusted to a comfortable fit.
- If you are buying remotely, read the return policy before ordering.
Decide whether you want its everyday features
The Kamasu combines a dive-style bezel and design with a day-date display. Those features may suit you if you like a watch with a more substantial, sport-oriented look and want the weekday and date visible on the dial. Choose it for those preferences, not because a dive-style watch is automatically the best everyday format.

Orient lists a 22 mm Kamasu bracelet and a 22 mm Kamasu/Kanno rubber strap on its product page. That listed width does not guarantee that every third-party strap or bracelet will fit cleanly: check compatibility with the exact reference, including lug width and end-link fit, and confirm the seller’s return terms.

How to make the decision
- Choose the experience: decide whether you want an automatic mechanical watch or would rather have quartz.
- Choose the exact Kamasu: verify the reference and dial color; RA-AA0001B39B is the black model described above, not a claim about every Kamasu.
- Assess fit: try it on if possible, or make sure you can return it if the size or bracelet does not work for you.
- Check the purchase terms: confirm the seller, included items, warranty, stock, price and returns before placing an order.
