Its appeal is a compact 39 mm case, distinctive rally-inspired dial and refined details; the main question is whether those qualities justify its asking price when the core specifications are available for less elsewhere.
What is the Orion Sylph Gen 2?
Orion’s gallery identifies the refreshed Sylph as a Hellcat-platform watch offered in burgundy, graphite and black mother-of-pearl versions. Earlier Sylph references differ, so check that a listing or review is discussing Gen 2 before comparing dimensions or specifications. Orion’s gallery shows the generation and its dial variants.

Design and finishing
The Sylph’s design leans into detail rather than a plain, utilitarian dial. Orion’s listing and Nathan Schultz’s hands-on review describe a rally-track dial, applied indices and faceted hands, with polished details and a polished bezel. The contrast between those elements gives the watch a more considered look than its compact dimensions alone might suggest.
#1 Best Overall
- Completely redesigned. New longer lasting direct-drive motor specifically designed for watch winders. New touch button controls with optional led light. The lights for the control settings will auto dim after 1 minute. It has 4 Turns Per Day (650-850-1050-1250) settings and 3 direction settings for clockwise, counter clockwise, and bi-directional. There are 12 different setting combinations.
- Zero magnetization. The design of the watch winder has been tested and will not cause harm to your expensive automatic watches due to magnetization. Each part is precisely designed and tooled by machine and then hand assembled for exact fit and finish. All watch winders are designed in the USA. The watch winder is programmed not to turn continuously which will overwind your watch. New model number is G097.
- Power adapter included (100-240V) and instruction manual is included.
- Spring action watch pillows with additional attachment to hold large watches are included.
- 1 Year Warranty - Customer service is very important and we stand behind our products. Any problems you have please contact us and we will do our best to take care of it. Note - Watch winders are not compatible with Seiko Kinetic Watches because the watch mechanism is not the same as traditional automatic movement watches.
Schultz, writing for Worn & Wound after spending time with burgundy and graphite examples, favored the burgundy version. He specifically highlights the polished indices and hands and the rally track. His review also discusses the refreshed case’s curved caseback. Read the Worn & Wound hands-on review, published December 23, 2024.
How it wears
The 39 mm diameter and 47 mm lug-to-lug provide useful fit measurements, but measurements alone cannot guarantee how a watch will sit on a particular wrist. Schultz found the curved caseback improved wearability in his experience and described the watch as comfortable. That is one reviewer’s hands-on impression, not a universal fit guarantee.

- ELEGANT CARBON FIBER DESIGN: Made of high-quality PU leather with a transparent acrylic window. The smooth PU leather interior reliably protects your mechanical watches from scratches. A stylish eye-catcher and the perfect presentation for your valuable watch collection.
- IMPORTANT SIZE COMPATIBILITY (PLEASE CHECK): To ensure smooth operation and prevent motor damage, this dual watch winder is designed for watches with the following maximum dimensions: Dial diameter under 47 mm, case thickness under 28 mm, and strap circumference under 175-195 mm. It can accommodate large watches, but cannot simultaneously hold two mechanical watches with a dial diameter of 58 mm with crown. Please measure your watch before purchasing.
- OPERATING PRINCIPLE: A watch winder serves exclusively to maintain the power reserve and simulates the natural movement of the wrist. It CANNOT wind a completely stopped watch from zero. Important: Please manually wind the crown of your watch approx 20-40 times before placing it in the winder. It CANNOT start or wind a completely stopped watch from zero. We also recommend manually checking the time once a week.
- INTELLIGENT INTERVAL ROTATION: Programmed with pauses to prevent over-winding. Mode B: 2 min clockwise, 6 min pause, 2 min counterclockwise. Mode L: 2 min counterclockwise, 18 min pause, 2 min clockwise. (If you see the winder rotate and then stop, this is the programmed pause — NOT a malfunction. Please wait through the full pause period (6 min for Mode B, 18 min for Mode L) )You can switch the device off when not in use.(Speed: 970-2430 TPD. Automatic watches only. NOT for Quartz, Seiko Kinetic, or Citizen Eco-Drive).
- CONSTANT POWER SUPPLY (NO BATTERY): Please note that this device does not have a built-in battery and must be permanently connected to a power source (3V~9V, 0.5A) during operation. A connection cable is included (power adapter NOT included). Multiple watch winders can be conveniently connected in series via the cable to save space and power outlets.
The bracelet has micro-adjustment holes, according to Schultz, but no quick-adjust clasp. If you rely on tool-free bracelet adjustment as your wrist changes through the day, that is a practical limitation to weigh against the reported comfort.

Graphite
The official Graphite listing repeats the principal dimensions and movement specifications and describes that variant as limited to 50 pieces. That is a manufacturer claim specific to Graphite, not a production limit for every Sylph. Check Orion’s Graphite listing for current availability.
Black mother-of-pearl and Blood Orange
Orion’s gallery identifies black mother-of-pearl as a Gen 2 version. A separate Blood Orange listing describes a made-to-order, hand-painted dial, displayed $825 and appeared as sold out in a search result at the time of research. That price and stock status are time-sensitive, and the Blood Orange should not be treated as a regularly available standard variant. Check the Blood Orange listing for its current status.

Orion specifies a 20 mm lug width, so a 20 mm strap is a plausible option. Width alone does not establish that every aftermarket strap or end link will fit; confirm the attachment and end-link shape before buying.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the Orion Sylph worth the price?
At the $725 displayed price for Burgundy during research, the value case rests more on the design, finishing and wearing experience than on specifications per dollar. Schultz’s assessment is that buyers seeking the strongest specification set for the money can find watches with the same movement and water resistance for half the price. That is his comparison, not an exhaustive market survey or a guarantee that a particular alternative will match the Sylph’s design or finish.

The Sylph makes sense if…
- You want a compact automatic with clearly stated dimensions and a rally-inspired dial.
- You value applied, polished details and are drawn to the curved caseback and the reviewer’s positive comfort impression.
- You prefer the Sylph’s design enough that you are willing to pay a premium over watches offering similar core specifications.
Look elsewhere if…
- Your priority is maximizing movement, water resistance and other specifications for each dollar spent.
- You require a bracelet clasp with quick, tool-free adjustment.
- You need independently established accuracy, water-resistance performance, long-term durability or service-cost information before deciding; those results are not established by the cited product listing and hands-on review.
How to compare it with other watches
Compare the Sylph against actual alternatives on the attributes that affect fit, use and value—not just case diameter or movement name. The available sources do not establish an exhaustive competitor ranking, so a fair comparison depends on the exact models and current prices you are considering.
Quick Recap
- Fit: Compare lug-to-lug length, thickness and diameter together. The Sylph is listed at 39 mm across, 47 mm lug-to-lug and 10.5 mm thick including its crystal.
- Everyday use: Check water-resistance claims, crown design, crystal material and lume, and distinguish manufacturer specifications from independently tested results.
- Bracelet and strap: Consider adjustment hardware as well as lug width. The Sylph’s bracelet has micro-adjust holes but no quick-adjust clasp; its 20 mm lug width does not ensure universal aftermarket strap compatibility.
- Design and price: Judge dial, hands, indices and case finishing alongside current variant availability and price. The Sylph’s value is less compelling if those design choices are not important to you.
