The reviewed reference, 01 752 7698 4063, pairs a 45 mm steel pilot-style case with day and date displays, Oris Calibre 752 and a choice of leather, textile or steel bracelet. Monochrome reported European prices of €1,450 on leather or fabric and €1,650 on the bracelet in June 2016. Oris’s current US listing is for a related model with a different reference, so its price and availability are separate.
What the 2016 hands-on covered
Brice Goulard’s article for Monochrome Watches, published 20 June 2016, covered reference 01 752 7698 4063. Its use of “new” reflects the launch period. The article describes a large, 45 mm stainless-steel automatic watch with a day-date display.
Goulard characterized the case as large but comfortable, noted its oversized crown and compared the coin-edged bezel to a jet-engine turbine. He praised the dial’s contrast and legibility, while describing the anthracite sunray dial and polished hands as giving the watch a more urban, refined look. These are the author’s hands-on impressions, not universal fit or legibility findings.

Price and availability: 2016 Europe versus the current US listing
| Listing | Reference and configuration | Price and availability |
|---|---|---|
| Monochrome Watches, June 2016 | 01 752 7698 4063; leather or fabric, or steel bracelet | €1,450 on leather or fabric; €1,650 on steel bracelet. The article said it was in stores. |
| Oris US page, checked 8 October 2026 | Big Crown ProPilot Big Day Date, 01 752 7698 4164-07 8 22 19; black dial and stainless-steel strap | US$2,150; the page says it is not available online and directs customers to stores. |
The Oris US page lists this related Big Day Date at 45 mm, with 10 bar water resistance, a 22 mm interhorn width and Calibre 752. It gives a 38-hour power reserve, automatic winding and a rate of 28,800 A/h at 4 Hz. The reference is not the 2016 article’s 4063, so the current listing’s configuration and US price should not be treated as details of the earlier watch or as a current price for that exact reference. Availability and price can change.
What the pilot-watch design means—and what it does not
Oris’s official aviation brochure traces the Big Crown design to the 1938 Pointer Date and says its oversized crown was intended to help pilots wind and adjust a watch while wearing thick gloves. The brochure also explains the ProPilot coin-edged bezel’s turbine inspiration: “All three pieces boast a coin-edged bezel – a design element inspired by the turbines of a jet engine”. This is Oris’s design history; it does not establish that the Day Date is certified for aviation use.

- Power Reserve indicator sub-dial at the 3 o'clock position.

- Oris in-house manufactured Caliber 111, beats at 21,600 vph, contains 40 Jewels & has an impressive 10 day (240 hour) power reserve.
Who the 2016 model may suit
The reviewed watch combines an easy-to-read day and date at 3 o’clock with a distinctly large 45 mm case. The 2016 article’s impressions point to a bold pilot-watch aesthetic softened by the anthracite dial and polished hands. Buyers weighing a specific pre-owned or remaining-stock example should check its reference, condition, included strap or bracelet and asking price rather than relying on the distinct current US listing.
