The update was not limited to new colors or a visual refresh: it reorganized the app around Today, Vitals, and My Health, added a longer-term Cumulative Stress measure, expanded Cycle Insights, and made Oura’s subscription-based health interpretation more central to the product.
The redesign was announced for Oura members on iOS and Android, not exclusively for Ceramic owners. As of August 18, 2026, it should be understood as a 2025 platform update that has since been followed by further app releases and the Oura Ring 5 launch.

The more defensible reading is that the two announcements were adjacent parts of a broader move toward a health-services platform: premium hardware on one side, and increasingly curated interpretation of the data on the other.

Oura said the redesigned experience would roll out globally on iOS and Android over the following weeks. That wording matters. An announcement on October 20 did not mean every member immediately saw every new screen or feature. Oura has said that releases can be staged, and that iOS and Android may receive changes on different schedules.
For current readers, this is therefore a retrospective story rather than breaking news. Oura’s iOS release notes list version 7.22.1, released August 17, 2026, with earlier 7.22.0, 7.21.0, and 7.20.0 releases. The exact features visible to an individual member can still vary by device generation, country, language, account, and rollout status.
Check Oura’s current software updates and compatibility guidance before assuming that a feature is available on a particular phone or ring.
The three redesigned sections
Today: a faster daily starting point
The new Today view is intended to answer a practical question: what matters most right now?
Its centerpiece is One Big Thing, which surfaces the score, insight, or Discovery that Oura considers most relevant for the day. Instead of requiring users to open separate sleep, readiness, activity, and stress screens, the app attempts to prioritize a single action or observation.
This is a change in emphasis rather than a claim of improved sensor accuracy. Oura is presenting the same general stream of passive health data in a more editorialized format, with the goal of reducing the work required to interpret it.
Vitals: the main health metrics in one place
Vitals brings the app’s core health pillars together. Oura described the section as a place to review sleep, stress, cardiovascular information, and other metrics across daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly views.
The longer time ranges are important because a single poor night is not the same as a persistent change in a user’s baseline. Vitals is designed to make those patterns easier to inspect without manually piecing together separate score histories.
My Health: long-term patterns and guidance
My Health focuses on longer-term trends, including areas where a member is doing well and areas that may deserve attention. It also provides access to Habits and Routines and Oura Advisor.

That makes the redesigned app less like a conventional dashboard and more like an interpretation layer. Oura is not only displaying numbers; it is trying to explain a member’s “health story” and turn multiple measurements into suggestions or priorities.
Color-coded biometric cues
Oura also introduced an interface that can change color according to a member’s biometric status. The purpose is rapid scanning: a user should be able to recognize whether a metric or health area looks favorable, needs attention, or falls somewhere in between without reading every number first.
Color coding can make a dense health dashboard more approachable, but it also increases the importance of context. A color is a summary, not a diagnosis. Users should open the underlying metric and consider the trend, measurement conditions, and their own circumstances before treating a visual cue as a meaningful health conclusion.
Cycle Insights became more useful for long-term tracking
Oura announced two notable changes to Cycle Insights:
- A shift from a one-month view to a 12-month view of period and fertile-window predictions.
- Personalized cycle-phase and prediction information based on a single night of sleep data, rather than waiting for a longer accumulation of data.
According to Oura’s announcement, the earlier process could require as many as 60 nights for the relevant personalized cycle information. Some contemporaneous descriptions summarized the change more generally as moving from roughly a month of waiting to a single night; Oura’s stated figure is the more precise claim.
This should not be interpreted as meaning that one night produces medically reliable fertility guidance. Cycle features depend on onboarding, data quality, language, country, and a user’s cycle history. Predictions are estimates based on available data, not a replacement for clinical advice, contraception, or fertility care.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat Cumulative Stress measures
Cumulative Stress was one of the redesign’s most substantial functional additions. Oura described it as a longer-term physiological stress measure based on the previous month of data and updated weekly.
The feature draws on five inputs:
- Sleep continuity
- Heart stress response
- Sleep micromotions
- Temperature regulation
- Activity impact
Oura also introduced a Stress Management view that combines Daytime Stress, Resilience, and Cumulative Stress. The aim is to distinguish short-term stress episodes from a broader pattern of physiological strain or recovery over time.
Oura said Cumulative Stress had been compared with standardized measures including the Perceived Stress Scale and Copenhagen Burnout Inventory. That is a company-reported validation claim, not independent clinical validation, and the metric should be treated as a wellness indicator rather than a diagnosis.

Why new users may not see it immediately
Long-term metrics need a baseline. Oura says it generally takes two to four weeks of consistent wear to establish useful baselines. Its app guidance says Cumulative Stress requires at least 21 days of valid continuous day-and-night data within the previous 31 days.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Other features have their own thresholds. For example, Sleep Health requires at least seven Sleep Scores from the previous 14 days. A newly purchased ring can therefore have the redesigned navigation while still showing limited history or unavailable long-term insights.
What the Ceramic Ring 4 actually added
The Ceramic launch and the app redesign should be kept separate. The Ring 4 Ceramic’s main distinction was its construction: a zirconia ceramic body offered in four colors—Tide, Petal, Cloud, and Midnight.
In the United States, Oura announced the ring at $499, with sizes 4 through 15. The launch retained the Oura Ring 4 health-tracking platform; the evidence does not establish a separate sensing generation exclusive to Ceramic.
The launch also included several accessories and services:
| Product or feature | What Oura announced |
|---|---|
| Charging Case | $99; stores up to five full ring charges, uses USB-C, and was said to charge the ring and case in 90 minutes. |
| Multi-ring support | Switching among multiple Oura Ring 4 devices on one account; iOS support began October 1, with Android support announced for October 20. |
| Health Panels | A $99 bloodwork service linking 50 biomarkers to Oura data through Quest Diagnostics. |
| Recycling | Oura announced a program for returning rings for recycling. |
Health Panels were announced for U.S. members ages 18–64. The cited launch announcement excluded Arizona, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island because of state-level restrictions. Availability should be confirmed before purchase because health services and eligibility can change.
Did Ceramic owners get exclusive app features?
No. Oura presented the redesigned interface, Cumulative Stress, and expanded Cycle Insights as app-level improvements for members on iOS and Android. They were not described as Ceramic-only functions.
Ceramic buyers did receive a different physical ring, color and material options, and access to the launch’s separate hardware-related additions. But buying Ceramic was not presented as a requirement for the redesigned app. The software value proposition applied more broadly across the supported Oura ecosystem, subject to ring generation, membership, geography, and rollout limits.

The redesigned app is not the same thing as a new-ring requirement. Oura’s support guidance lists these general requirements:
Rank #4
- 24/7 Health Tracking: Monitor heart rate, blood oxygen (SpO₂), HRV, stress levels, and sleep data throughout the day and night. View wellness trends and patterns in the companion app to better understand your daily health and lifestyle.
- Elegant Ceramic Design: Crafted from smooth ceramic with a refined jewelry-inspired finish, this lightweight smart ring offers comfortable everyday wear and a sophisticated look. Designed to complement casual outfits, workwear, and special occasions for women and men.
- Sleep & Activity Tracking: Track deep sleep, light sleep, and awake periods to better understand your sleep patterns and recovery. Built-in activity tracking covers steps, calories, distance, and multiple sports modes for a convenient overview of daily movement.
- Smart Everyday Features: Enjoy convenient app-based functions including remote camera control, ring finder, notifications, and other everyday tools. Designed to add practical convenience without adding bulk to your daily routine.
- 5ATM Water Resistant: Designed for everyday wear with 5ATM water resistance for handwashing, showers, workouts, and swimming. Stable Bluetooth connectivity supports use with compatible iOS and Android devices, with no subscription required.
- iPhone: iOS 16 or later.
- Android: Android 11 or later with Google Play services.
- Connection: Bluetooth 5.0.
Those are platform requirements, not a guarantee that every feature works identically everywhere. Oura notes that feature availability may vary by ring generation, country, language, and staged release.
If the app is updated but a redesigned section is missing, the likely explanations include a gradual rollout, a platform-specific release schedule, insufficient data history, regional restrictions, or an unsupported ring generation. Updating the app is useful, but it cannot by itself create the baseline required by a long-term metric.
What the redesign means for Oura’s subscription
The redesign makes Oura’s membership model more visible. The hardware collects data, but many of the features that turn that data into longitudinal trends, stress interpretation, cycle views, and guided recommendations are part of the continuing software experience.
Oura’s 2026 Ring 5 announcement gave a membership price signal of $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year, in addition to the ring. Confirm the current price and feature access for the specific product and region before ordering.
Recommended Free Tools
This creates a straightforward trade-off:
- Oura’s appeal is the depth and polish of its interpretation, especially for sleep, recovery, cycle tracking, and long-term trends.
- The downside is that the total cost includes both premium hardware and a recurring fee.
- The redesign strengthens the argument for membership because Oura is selling an evolving interpretation service, not only a sensor-equipped ring.
Who benefits most?
The update is most consequential for existing owners who want a quick daily recommendation, follow stress over weeks or months, use Cycle Insights, or prefer an app to interpret several health signals together. It is also relevant to people with multiple Oura rings because multi-ring support reduces the friction of switching devices on one account.
It matters less to owners who mainly want raw sleep data, already export information to another dashboard, or prefer complete control over which metrics they inspect. A more curated interface can save time, but it can also feel restrictive to users who dislike recommendations or summary labels.
Should you buy Ceramic, Ring 5, or look elsewhere?
For a buyer in 2026, the Ceramic redesign story should not be used as a standalone reason to buy a $499 ring. Ceramic is primarily a material and style choice within the Ring 4 family, while the app redesign is a broader member experience.
- Choose Oura Ring 5 if you want Oura’s newest hardware and accept the membership cost. Oura announced Ring 5 in 2026 at $399 for Silver and Black and $499 for premium finishes.
- Choose Ring 4 Ceramic if ceramic construction, jewelry-like styling, and the four color options matter more than owning the latest generation.
- Add the Charging Case only if portable charging or frequent travel justifies its $99 price. Do not assume its compatibility is identical across every older ring without checking Oura’s current product information.
- Consider Health Panels only if you are an eligible U.S. member and specifically want Quest Diagnostics testing linked to Oura data. It is not a substitute for medical care.
- Consider RingConn or Ultrahuman if avoiding a recurring membership is your primary requirement. Their current pricing and feature availability should be checked directly with the manufacturers.
- Consider Samsung Galaxy Ring if you use a Samsung phone and value Galaxy Health integration more than Oura’s established emphasis on sleep, cycle, and longitudinal interpretation.
Oura’s redesign is therefore best understood as a software-platform shift, not a Ceramic-only upgrade. It made the app more focused on daily priorities and long-term health narratives, while the Ceramic ring supplied a premium physical option. Whether that combination is worthwhile depends less on the new tabs than on whether you will use the interpretation features—and continue paying for them.

Medical and accuracy caveat
Oura states that the Oura Ring is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, monitor, or prevent medical conditions. Cumulative Stress and Cycle Insights are wellness features, and the Blood Pressure Profile announcement concerned an Oura Labs study investigating possible future functionality—not cleared blood-pressure monitoring or a hypertension diagnosis.
