How the PAM00960 and PAM01616 differ
Panerai’s official press kit identifies the PAM00960 as the 42 mm model and the PAM01616 as the 47 mm model. Their movements differ, too. The manufacturer lists a 23-jewel, single-barrel OP XXXIV in the smaller reference and a 31-jewel, two-barrel P.9010 in the larger one. Panerai describes the P.9010 as entirely executed by the company.

Panerai lists both movements at 28,800 alternations per hour. The press-kit specifications do not establish that one reference is more accurate, durable in practice, or suitable for diving than the other.
What the shared dive-watch specifications mean
Both references have a unidirectional rotating bezel intended to calculate immersion time, plus a date display and small seconds. The company lists 30 bar of water resistance (approximately 300 metres) and a 72-hour power reserve for each. These are manufacturer specifications; they do not, by themselves, establish a particular watch’s condition, service history, or suitability for a specific dive.

What Carbotech is—and what Panerai claims
According to Panerai’s press kit, Carbotech is made by compressing very thin carbon-fibre sheets with PEEK polymer under controlled temperature and high pressure. The layers are oriented out of phase, giving the material its varied matte-black appearance. Panerai specifies Carbotech for the case, rotating bezel, and crown-protection device on both watches.
Panerai describes the material as lighter than steel and titanium and resistant to external shocks and corrosion. Those are manufacturer claims: the press kit provides no independent comparative testing or quantified performance study.

Choosing a size without assuming wrist fit
The 42 mm PAM00960 has the smaller stated diameter; the PAM01616 measures 47 mm. Diameter alone cannot predict how either watch will sit on an individual wrist. The cited press-kit specifications do not give lug-to-lug length, complete-watch thickness, or wearer-fit evidence, so a try-on is the soundest way to judge fit.
The movement names and stated dimensions may help distinguish the references, but the published information does not support a broader performance ranking between them. Choose between these specifications based on the case diameter and the reference you want, rather than assuming one is inherently better.
