These three Panerai Submersible references were linked to experiences beyond the watch purchase, but the available documentation is uneven: Panerai’s official technical press kit gives detailed specifications for the PAM00983, while reports on the PAM00985 and PAM00961 come from secondary sources. The experience packages should be understood as part of their original editions—not as benefits a buyer can assume come with a watch on today’s resale market.
What “experience watch” means for these Submersibles
In 2019, Panerai associated special Submersible editions with experiences tied to the people or organization named on the watches. Hodinkee’s Jon Bues described the PAM00983 as “one of three Submersible special editions that will offer an experiential component along with the purchase of a watch” in his January 31, 2019 hands-on coverage.
That contemporary framing is useful context, but it does not establish that an experience remains available, can be transferred to a later owner, or accompanies a pre-owned example. Nor does “hands-on” here mean that the author of this article inspected the watches in person; the account below draws on published coverage and product documentation.
PAM00983: the best-documented reference
Manufacturer specifications
Panerai’s official PAM00983 technical press kit identifies the watch as the Submersible Chrono Guillaume Néry Edition, limited to 15 examples. It specifies a 47 mm titanium case with DLC coating, a unidirectional titanium bezel with a black ceramic disc, and a special-engraving titanium caseback. The blue-and-black dial has luminous indexes and dots, a small-seconds display at 9 o’clock, an hour counter at 3, and central chronograph seconds and minutes hands. Chronograph pushers sit at 8 and 10 o’clock.

The automatic Panerai P.9100 calibre is specified as Panerai-made, with 37 jewels, two barrels, and a frequency of 28,800 alternations per hour. Its functions include hours, minutes, small seconds, immersion-time calculation, a flyback chronograph, and seconds reset. The press kit states a 72-hour power reserve and water resistance of 30 bar (approximately 300 metres), and lists a black rubber strap with trapezoidal titanium buckle.
Those figures are manufacturer specifications, not the result of a recent independent test of an individual watch. The water-resistance rating does not establish that a vintage or pre-owned example remains suitable for diving; its seals and condition need to be assessed before exposure to water.

The reported Néry experience
The Panerai Reference Database describes a September 2019 Polynesia experience associated with the PAM00983 and freediver Guillaume Néry, including diving, whale sightings, and encounters with manta rays and lemon sharks. That itinerary is reported by the specialist database, rather than specified in Panerai’s technical press kit.
PAM00985: Mike Horn Edition
Panerai Central describes the PAM00985 as a Mike Horn Edition Submersible, the third of the three experience-and-watch combinations, limited to 19 pieces. The available report does not establish an official itinerary or provide a complete manufacturer specification sheet for this reference. Its case, movement, dimensions, and technical details therefore should not be assumed to match the PAM00983 simply because both are Submersibles associated with an adventurer.

PAM00961: Marina Militare ComSubIn
Club Panerai reports that the PAM00961 is a 2019 47 mm Submersible Marina Militare ComSubIn Carbotech special edition, issued in 33 units and linked to a two-day ComSubIn experience. These edition and experience details are enthusiast-source reporting; the available material does not include primary Panerai confirmation. The reported Carbotech case and military-unit identity distinguish it from the titanium, Guillaume Néry PAM00983, but a full technical comparison is not established here.

What a prospective buyer should verify
- Confirm the exact reference on the watch and supporting documentation; similarly named Submersible editions can differ in material, complication, and edition size.
- For a PAM00983, use the Panerai press-kit specifications as the reference point, then check the individual watch’s condition and service history. A stated water-resistance rating is not a current pressure-test result.
- Treat the PAM00985 and PAM00961 edition and experience claims as secondary-source reports unless the seller can provide authoritative documentation.
- Ask whether any experience entitlement was limited to the original purchaser, whether it was fulfilled, and whether it can transfer. The available material does not establish transferability or ongoing availability.
