What is the Panerai Submersible eLAB-ID?
The Submersible eLAB-ID, reference PAM01225, is a Panerai concept watch unveiled by Richemont and Panerai on 7 April 2021. The company presented it as an experiment in using recycled-based materials across a watch rather than limiting them to one visible component. Panerai’s announcement describes the project as a model for circular watchmaking.
Fondation Haute Horlogerie describes the concept as a 30-piece run. That limited quantity does not establish that the watch is currently available to buy; no current price or retail or resale stock is confirmed in the cited sources. Fondation Haute Horlogerie’s overview gives the run context.
What does Panerai’s 98.6% figure count?
The 98.6% figure refers to the share of the watch’s weight that Panerai said consists of materials integrating a high rate of recycled elements. It is a company-reported, weight-based figure from the 2021 announcement—not a claim that 98.6% of parts by count are recycled, or that every component is entirely made from recycled material. The sources cited here do not establish an independent audit of the percentage.

Panerai’s announcement says, “With 98.6% of recycled-based material by weight the watch creates a model for circular watchmaking practices.” That is the company’s characterization of its own concept; the percentage alone does not demonstrate lower lifecycle emissions or overall environmental impact.
Which parts use recycled-based materials?
Case, dial and bridges
Panerai says the case, sandwich dial and bridges use EcoTitanium, a titanium alloy that the company describes as containing more than 80% pure recycled content. This is a material-level claim, distinct from the 98.6% figure for the watch’s total weight.

Luminescent markings and hands
The company identifies 100% recycled Super-LumiNova on the dial and hands. This describes the stated recycled content of that material, not the recycled share of those components’ entire weight.
Movement escapement
Panerai says the movement’s escapement uses 100% recycled silicon. Its announcement also says most major components contain recycled-based material, but the cited descriptions do not provide a component-by-component inventory or independent verification.

What the claim does—and does not—show
- It shows: Panerai reported that recycled-based materials make up 98.6% of the concept watch’s weight, and named several materials and components using recycled inputs.
- It does not show: that all parts are wholly recycled, that the percentage was independently verified, or that the watch has a measured lifecycle or emissions advantage.
- For comparisons: a meaningful comparison would need to distinguish weight share from component count, identify which components and materials are included, state who substantiated the claim, and account for production quantity and availability.
Panerai had also described EcoTitanium in a separate Mike Horn Edition press kit for a different 47 mm Submersible. That earlier watch’s specifications—including its 300-metre water resistance—are not specifications for the eLAB-ID. The Mike Horn Edition press kit concerns that separate model.
