What makes the Patek Philippe 5316P look contemporary?
The defining visual choice is a sapphire-crystal dial with blue metallization and a black-gradient rim. Its smoked-glass effect leaves glimpses of the movement visible beneath the display, giving the face a sense of depth rather than the more traditional, opaque look associated with many complicated watches.
The dial is set within a polished platinum case. White-gold faceted obus-style hour markers and dauphine-style hands provide contrast against the blue surface; a diamond is set at 6 o’clock. The navy calfskin strap is embossed with a fabric pattern and finished with contrasting cream stitching.
What complications does the Patek Philippe 5316 have?
The 5316/50P-001 combines three major complications: a minute repeater, a tourbillon and a perpetual calendar with a retrograde date hand. The calendar also displays the day, month and leap year in apertures. Moon phases and small seconds complete the indications.

The current reference is 5316/50P-001. Patek Philippe supplies interchangeable solid and sapphire-crystal case backs, offering a choice between a more traditional closed back and a view of the movement. The manually wound caliber has a stated 38-to-48-hour power reserve, so winding is part of regular ownership.
