Patek Philippe’s 6159G-001 pairs a perpetual calendar with a retrograde date hand: the hand sweeps across an arc of dates, then returns to the beginning after the month’s final day. Introduced in the brand’s 2025 Watches and Wonders materials and still listed in its current collection, the white-gold watch sets that traditional complication against a gray-metallized sapphire dial that offers a veiled view of the movement.
What the 6159G-001 is
The Perpetual Calendar Retrograde Date reference 6159G-001 is a white-gold automatic watch built around Patek Philippe caliber 26-330 S QR. Its perpetual-calendar display combines a retrograde date with day, month, leap-year-cycle and moon-phase indications. A sapphire crystal case back provides another view of the movement.
Patek Philippe introduced the model in its 2025 Watches and Wonders materials. The reference remains in the maker’s current Grand Complications collection listing as of October 8, 2026.
How the retrograde calendar works
Rather than completing a full circle, the date hand travels along an arc. At the end of the month, after indicating the final date, it returns to the start of the scale for the next month. The day, month, leap-year and moon-phase displays provide the other calendar information.

Design: a veiled view of the movement
The dial is a sapphire crystal with gray metallization, so the movement is partly visible beneath the indications rather than fully exposed or hidden behind an opaque dial. White-gold applied markers provide the hour references. The bezel has a Clous de Paris pattern—often called hobnail—and the back is sapphire crystal.

The result balances calendar legibility with visual depth in a particular way: the transparent dial makes the mechanism part of the composition, while the hobnail bezel adds texture around the case. These are matters of taste, not objective advantages over a more conventional dial or smoother bezel.
