Patek Philippe’s Watch Art Grand Exhibition is open at CityOval in Milan from October 2 through October 18, 2026. Admission is free with free advance registration, and the exhibition brings together the brand’s history, watches, museum objects, watchmaking and decorative crafts. It has not yet closed as of October 7, so no final visitor total or post-event verdict is available.
What is the Watch Art Grand Exhibition?
Patek Philippe describes the traveling exhibition as an immersive presentation of its watchmaking tradition and history. The Milan edition is not just a showcase of current watches: it includes dedicated spaces for the current collection, museum objects, rare handcraft demonstrations, the manufacture and movements, chiming watches, and watchmakers. The organizer’s event details are at Patek Philippe’s Milan exhibition page.
Wallpaper* reports that the Milan installation spans 15 themed areas and approximately 2,900 square metres, with about 500 wristwatches, table clocks and pocket watches. Those figures are Wallpaper*’s reporting, rather than numbers stated on the Patek Philippe event page. The venue, CityOval, is the building formerly known as Palazzo delle Scintille; its current name refers to the elliptical dome designed by architect Paolo Vietti-Violi. Wallpaper*’s October 1, 2026 report describes the installation and its Italian-themed objects.
What makes the Milan exhibition distinctive?
Italian art, places and materials
Patek Philippe says the exhibition includes Rare Handcrafts works inspired by Italian culture. Wallpaper* highlights pieces drawing on different places and craft traditions: a Milan map featuring the Duomo in gold, a Rome-inspired Dome clock, Tuscan sunsets rendered in wood marquetry, and Amalfi Coast scenes on Calatrava watches using enamel and miniature painting. Other reported references include Burano lace, Murano glass and Florentine stone marquetry, as well as four wristwatches depicting the Fiat Cinquecento.

The range makes the craft rooms a way to see how local imagery and materials can be translated into miniature watchmaking and decorative objects, rather than simply a display of Italian-themed souvenirs.
Seven limited editions and a technical model
Patek Philippe says it is unveiling seven limited-edition timepieces for Milan. Their transparent sapphire casebacks bear the inscription “Patek Philippe Milano 2026.” The official announcement is on the event page.

Wallpaper* also reports a new technical model, reference 5978P-010, combining a perpetual calendar and chronograph. The publication says its calibre advances four date windows simultaneously and that the platinum edition is limited to 120 pieces. These specifications are attributed to Wallpaper*’s October 1 report, rather than presented here as independently verified model-sheet details.

How does Milan fit into the exhibition’s history?
Patek Philippe’s exhibition-history page records a series of earlier public presentations, with attendance and exhibit counts varying by edition. The figures below are the organizer’s published descriptions; “nearly” and “more than” retain the qualifications used for Tokyo.
| Edition | Visitors reported by Patek Philippe | Exhibits or timepieces reported |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai, 2012 | 3,500 | 400 exhibits |
| Munich, 2013 | 22,000 | 474 pieces |
| London, 2015 | 42,500 | 400 pieces |
| New York, 2017 | 27,500 | 450 pieces |
| Singapore, 2019 | 68,000 | 467 timepieces |
| Tokyo, 2023 | More than 60,000 | Nearly 500 timepieces |
The organizer’s historical figures are listed on Patek Philippe’s exhibition-history page. Wallpaper* separately reported 74,000 visitors for Tokyo in its October 1, 2026 article; that is a different published figure and should not be conflated with the organizer’s “more than 60,000” formulation.
In Wallpaper*’s October 1, 2026 interview, Patek Philippe president Thierry Stern described the idea behind taking the exhibition abroad: “For my father, one of the most important tasks was to rebuild the history of Patek Philippe. And after that, I think he decided to see how he could bring it to the whole world; because not everybody is able to come to Geneva.” Asked about keeping the format fresh, Stern said, “I think to keep it fresh, you’re always trying to innovate a little bit,” adding that the exhibition should offer something concrete for people to see and touch. Both statements are quoted by Bill Prince in Wallpaper*.
