Pebble Index 01: Everything to Know About the $75 Voice-Capture Ring

Pebble Index 01 is a $75 screenless voice-capture ring, not a health tracker. Here is how its button, phone app, privacy model, battery, sizing, integrations, water resistance, and limitations affect the buying decision.

The Pebble Index 01 is a $75 voice-note button worn as a ring—not a health tracker. Hold its physical button, speak close to the microphone, and the paired iPhone or Android phone transfers, transcribes, and organizes the recording. It can turn short thoughts into notes, reminders, lists, timers, calendar events, questions, and configured automations.

That narrow purpose is both its appeal and its limitation. The Index 01 avoids screens, biometric sensors, and daily charging, but it depends on a phone, records only short close-range clips, uses a non-rechargeable battery, and runs on software that Pebble says is still evolving.

What the Pebble Index 01 is

The Pebble Index 01 is a screenless voice-capture ring. Its main job is to make recording a short thought almost as quick as pressing a button: hold the physical button, speak, release it, and let the phone turn the recording into a note, reminder, list item, timer, alarm, question, calendar event, message, or another configured action.

That makes it fundamentally different from an Oura-style or Samsung-style smart ring. The Index 01 has no heart-rate sensor, sleep tracking, blood-oxygen readings, step counting, workout features, or miniature display. It is better described as a voice-note button you wear as a ring than as a health wearable.

HFDJRWK Smart Keychain with Voice Reminder, Battery-powered, Supports Custom Recordings, Ideal for Apartments, Kitchens, Dorm Rooms, Garages, and Bedrooms(Green)
  • Smart Voice Reminders: Record a personalized voice message (up to 30 seconds) and place the device in key locations such as doorways or the kitchen. When you walk by, the 120° wide-angle sensor accurately detects your presence within 1.5 meters and automatically plays a clear, loud reminder to help you remember important tasks like grabbing your keys or phone, or turning off the gas.
  • Unlimited Voice Recording: Record or modify voice messages anytime as needed, with no limits on content or frequency. Whether reminding elders to take their medication, giving instructions to children, or setting personal reminders, you can easily configure settings to flexibly handle various daily scenarios.
  • Precise Detection: Equipped with a high-performance PIR motion sensor module, it features a wide detection range and sensitive response. Whether day or night, it triggers voice playback the moment you pass by, ensuring reminders are delivered accurately.
  • Long Battery Life: Powered by 3 AA batteries (not included), its low-power design supports continuous use for months, eliminating the hassle of frequent replacements. No Wiring Required: Plug-and-play design makes it suitable for various locations, including homes, offices, and stores.
  • Thoughtful Gift: A practical gift for forgetful elders, busy parents, and anyone who needs reminders, it also helps you develop the habit of checking before leaving home. It serves as both a multifunctional hook and a warm voice companion, keeping care by your side at all times.

At the listed price of $75, the Index 01 is appealing if your biggest problem is the friction of taking out your phone to capture an idea. It is a poor choice if you want biometric tracking, a conventional long-form voice recorder, a fully independent wearable, or a rechargeable device that can last indefinitely.

Pebble Index 01 specifications at a glance

Recording length About two minutes per recording; roughly five minutes of queued recordings on the ring
Phone compatibility iPhone and Android through the Pebble mobile app
Phone required? Yes for syncing, transcription, organization, and most actions; the ring can temporarily record while the phone is out of Bluetooth range
Battery Silver-oxide, non-rechargeable battery; expected life varies from roughly two to three years depending on usage
Materials 316 stainless steel with a liquid-silicone-rubber button
Weight and dimensions Approximately 4.7 grams for size 10, 2.95 mm thick, and 6.6 mm wide

Water handling Listed as water-resistant to one meter, but not waterproof; Pebble warns that water entering the microphone can reduce volume
Account Sign-in with a Google, Apple, or GitHub account is required

These are manufacturer-provided specifications and operating claims. They should not be treated as independent laboratory test results.

How the Index 01 works

The basic interaction is press, speak, release

The ring contains the button, microphone, wireless chip, temporary memory, and battery. It does not do most of the interpretation itself. Instead, the ring captures audio and sends it over Bluetooth to the paired phone, where the Pebble app transcribes the recording and decides what to do with it.

The default capture gesture is a single click-and-hold. Press and hold the button, speak close to the microphone, then release when finished. A double click-and-hold is documented as the default gesture for asking for answers. Pebble allows button mappings to be changed, so the precise behavior can evolve with the app and the user’s setup.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A typical example might look like this:

  1. You hold the button and say, “Remind me to send the invoice at 3 p.m.”
  2. The ring stores the short recording temporarily.
  3. The phone receives it over Bluetooth.
  4. The Pebble app transcribes the speech and interprets it as a reminder.
  5. The reminder or connected action appears in the appropriate app or service.

The value is not that the ring is more capable than a phone. The value is that the ring removes several steps between having a thought and capturing it.

It is designed for short thoughts, not long recordings

Pebble’s getting-started documentation says an individual recording can last about two minutes, while the ring holds approximately five minutes of total recordings before syncing. That makes it suitable for a product idea, shopping item, short journal entry, book recommendation, or reminder. It is not designed to record a lecture, interview, meeting, podcast, or long conversation.

The microphone is intended for close speech. Pebble recommends speaking at normal volume roughly 3–5 centimeters from the microphone, while its production information gives a broader practical capture range of about 5–20 centimeters. In either case, this is a personal dictation device, not a distant or room-scale recorder. If you want to capture a discussion across a table, a phone or dedicated recorder is the more appropriate tool.

How fast does it respond?

Pebble says recordings generally take around 10–15 seconds to transfer, transcribe, and appear in the app. Its production update gives a broader three-to-ten-second transfer estimate, while some actions such as music control may take approximately three to five seconds. The real delay depends on the action, Bluetooth connection, phone, power-saving settings, and whether cloud services are involved.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Those timings are quick enough for a capture workflow, but the Index 01 should not be understood as an instant, fully local assistant with no processing delay. You speak first; the phone then performs the work.

What happens when the phone is out of range?

The ring can record while the phone is temporarily out of Bluetooth range. Those recordings remain queued on the ring and can upload when the phone returns to range, subject to the device’s power-saving behavior.

This is useful when walking around the house, exercising, or briefly leaving the phone behind. It does not make the Index 01 a phone-independent computer. You still need the phone and Pebble app for transcription, organization, integrations, and most intelligent actions.

Phone, app, and account requirements

The Index 01 works with both iPhone and Android smartphones. A Pebble watch is not required; the ring can be used on its own as long as it is paired with a compatible phone running the Pebble app.

You must sign in with a Google, Apple, or GitHub account. The phone functions as the system’s brain, handling transcription, the feed of captured thoughts, notes, reminders, integrations, and optional AI actions. Because Pebble also supports watches, the app and documentation may contain features or interface elements that are broader than what a ring-only buyer needs.

This phone dependence is one of the most important buying considerations. The ring is small and convenient, but that simplicity is partly achieved by moving complexity to the smartphone. If you want a wearable that can display information, run apps, or perform tasks without a nearby phone, the Index 01 is the wrong category of product.

Privacy: physical activation is the central idea

The Index 01 is not intended to listen continuously. Pebble says it records only while the button is pressed. That physical activation model is a meaningful privacy advantage over an always-listening assistant and makes the ring unsuitable for the idea of passively recording an entire day.

It also means the ring is not designed to record meetings or conversations in the background. Users should still follow applicable recording-consent rules and respect the privacy of people nearby, but the product’s operating model is deliberately limited: no button press, no intended recording.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Local processing and optional cloud services

Pebble describes the product as local-first. Its materials say speech-to-text and an on-device large language model are available, and the app includes a local-agent option that runs the AI agent on the phone rather than in the cloud. The trade-off is that local processing may provide lower accuracy or fewer capabilities than cloud-based processing.

Recordings can be processed locally on the phone without an internet connection or a required cloud service. Pebble also describes optional cloud backup, with user-controlled encryption keys in its later production information. Therefore, the accurate privacy summary is not that every possible workflow is permanently cloud-free. The required capture workflow can be local, while optional cloud features may be enabled for backup or particular capabilities.

Pebble has said it plans to place optional cloud transcription and AI services in a Trusted Execution Environment. That should be treated as a planned improvement, not as a completed feature.

Battery life: measured in years, but the ring does not recharge

The Index 01 uses a silver-oxide battery and does not recharge. Pebble’s original product information estimates about 12–15 hours of total recording time, translating to up to approximately two years under a stated pattern of 10–20 recordings per day, each lasting three to six seconds.

A later production update says testers averaging about one minute of recorded thoughts per day saw roughly three years of battery life. Those figures are not necessarily contradictory: recording duration and usage pattern have a major effect on battery life. A person who dictates several long notes every day should expect less life than someone who records a handful of brief reminders.

The important distinction is that the battery should last years rather than days or weeks, but it cannot be topped up each night. When it is depleted, Pebble says users should send the ring back for recycling, and that the app will notify them before the battery runs out and offer another ring.

This is the Index 01’s clearest sustainability trade-off. A long-lived battery avoids daily charging, but the ring is not designed around a user-replaceable or rechargeable cell. Buyers who strongly prefer repairable or reusable electronics should consider this limitation before treating the $75 price as an automatic bargain.

Build quality, water resistance, and likely wear

The ring is primarily made from 316 stainless steel and has a liquid-silicone-rubber button. Pebble lists a weight of approximately 4.7 grams for size 10, with dimensions of about 2.95 mm thick and 6.6 mm wide. Finish choices include polished gold, matte black, and silver or brushed-silver options.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pebble reports environmental testing that included drop tests, water submersion, salt-water and hot-water spray, and repeated button presses. These are useful indications of the testing the company says it performed, but they are not independent durability results. Pebble also acknowledges that the ring is not invincible and will likely collect scratches. The silicone button can wear, and the microphone opening can become blocked.

The product listing describes water resistance to one meter and says hand washing, doing dishes, and showering are acceptable. Later support guidance is more conservative: water can enter the microphone opening and lower the volume, so Pebble recommends removing the ring before washing or showering when practical and drying it after exposure.

The practical conclusion is simple: treat the Index 01 as water-resistant, not waterproof. Do not choose it for swimming, and remove it when water exposure is easy to avoid.

Sizing is unusually important

Pebble primarily offers sizes 7 through 13 in the listed finishes. Its product FAQ lists size 6 only in polished gold. The mass-production update describes 20 color-and-size variations and warns that some testers found the finished ring felt slightly smaller than the sizing rings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pebble recommends choosing the larger size when uncertain. It also says exchanges are not offered, making an incorrect size more costly than it would be with many conventional rings. Check the company’s sizing guidance carefully before ordering and allow for the fact that finger size changes with temperature, time of day, and activity.

If the ring is slightly loose, Pebble suggests using foam adhesive or a clip to make it feel smaller. A generic ring size adjuster can be a practical fit aid, but it is not a Pebble-made or Pebble-endorsed accessory. It should not block the button or microphone, and it may affect comfort or water handling.

What can the Index 01 do?

The built-in workflow covers several common capture-to-action jobs:

  • Short notes and personal thoughts
  • Reminders
  • Shopping and task lists
  • Timers and alarms
  • Questions and answers
  • Calendar events
  • Selected music controls, with documented Android support
  • Messages and other configured actions

It can become more useful when connected to the services a buyer already uses. Pebble documents or names support for Notion, Google Tasks, Apple Reminders, Obsidian, calendars, webhooks, MCP servers, Tasker on Android, Beeper messaging on Android, Home Assistant, and Google Home.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Availability is not universal across iPhone and Android. Some integrations require a particular operating system, a separate configuration, or technical setup. Webhooks and MCP are especially useful for technically inclined users who want to route raw audio or transcribed text to their own applications, but they are not plug-and-play replacements for a polished consumer integration.

The app and much of the supporting software are open source. Pebble says users can fork the mobile app and build custom workflows. That is a substantial differentiator for people who care about control and experimentation, but it also signals that the product is an evolving platform rather than a finished appliance.

Software maturity and rough edges

Pebble openly describes the Index 01 as its first product in a new category. The company warns that the software will have bugs and rough edges, and that the interface is basic. Its changelog shows ongoing work on local models, encryption, Obsidian, Tasker, calendar events, sorting, integrations, and other Index functions.

That development model can be attractive if you enjoy testing new workflows and contributing feedback. It is less attractive if you expect every voice command, integration, and automation to work perfectly from the first day. The hardware is intentionally simple, but the software experience is where much of the product’s practical value—and much of its potential frustration—will live.

Where and when can you buy it?

The current Pebble product listing shows a price of $75. That was also the launch pre-order price, with a planned later price of $99. The product listing says new orders ship in approximately one to two months, but availability should be checked at checkout because production and regional fulfillment can change.

Pebble’s July 24, 2026 production update is more useful for understanding the pre-order situation than the original specification that said shipping would start in March 2026. The later update says the ring entered mass production, that the first orders were expected to ship the following week, and that more than 13,000 pre-orders were in the queue. Pebble expected most pre-orders to ship by the end of August 2026, with some final size and color combinations potentially moving into September.

In other words, March 2026 was the original shipping target, not the current delivery promise reflected by the later manufacturing update. Anyone ordering should rely on the delivery estimate shown for the selected size and finish rather than an old launch date.

Pebble says orders originate from a warehouse in Asia and ship by tracked courier. It describes the shipments as DDP, meaning taxes, tariffs, and duties are prepaid, but its materials also say the company may contact customers for address confirmation or additional payments connected with the order process. Read the checkout terms and keep an eye on order communications, particularly for international delivery.

Who should buy the Pebble Index 01?

It makes sense for

  • People who constantly lose ideas: The ring reduces the number of steps needed to capture a thought before it disappears.
  • Writers, founders, students, and researchers: Short spoken notes can be easier to create while walking or working than typed notes.
  • People who dislike always-listening assistants: Recording is physically activated by holding the button.
  • Automation enthusiasts: Webhooks, MCP, Tasker, Home Assistant, and open-source software provide room for custom workflows.
  • Users who dislike daily charging: The battery is intended to last years, even though it is not rechargeable.

It is a poor fit for

  • Health-tracking buyers: There are no biometric or fitness features.
  • Meeting and interview recorders: Recordings are short and the microphone is designed for close speech.
  • People who want a standalone wearable: The phone performs the transcription, organization, and automation.
  • Buyers who require a rechargeable or repairable device: The ring is returned for recycling when its battery is depleted.
  • Anyone uncertain about ring sizing: Pebble says it does not offer exchanges, so ordering the wrong size is a significant risk.
  • Buyers expecting mature software: Pebble says the interface is basic and the platform is still being developed.

Pebble Index 01 versus a health-focused smart ring

The two products may share the word ring, but they solve different problems. A health-focused smart ring is built around sensors, metrics, sleep reports, recovery scores, and often regular charging. The Index 01 is built around a physical input and a phone-based voice workflow.

Buying question Index 01 Health-focused smart ring
What is the main benefit? Fast capture of spoken thoughts and commands Passive health and activity data
Does it measure biometrics? No Usually, depending on model
How is it controlled? Physical button Usually passive sensing and a phone app
How often is it charged? It is not rechargeable Usually periodically, depending on model
What happens after the ring is worn? Nothing unless the button is pressed It may continuously or periodically collect sensor data
Who benefits most? People who need low-friction voice capture People who want health and fitness insights

Choosing between them is not mainly a question of which ring is more advanced. It is a question of whether you want an input device for your thoughts or a sensor platform for your body.

Setup tips that will prevent frustration

  1. Choose the size conservatively. If you are between sizes, Pebble recommends the larger option. Remember that exchanges are not offered.
  2. Install and sign into the Pebble app first. You will need a Google, Apple, or GitHub account, and the phone is responsible for the useful processing.
  3. Test the microphone position. Speak at normal volume close to the microphone rather than expecting room-scale recording.
  4. Start with short commands. The ring is optimized for brief thoughts, reminders, and list items. Learn how the app interprets your wording before building complex automations.
  5. Check Bluetooth and power-saving permissions. Aggressive phone power management can delay queued uploads or background processing.
  6. Decide whether local processing is important. The local-agent option can keep processing on the phone, although Pebble says accuracy may be lower than with some cloud services.
  7. Keep water away from the microphone when possible. Remove the ring for swimming and preferably for washing or showering, then dry it if it gets wet.
  8. Begin with one integration. Notion, Google Tasks, Apple Reminders, Obsidian, Tasker, and smart-home tools can make the ring much more useful, but configuring too many at once makes troubleshooting harder.

Final verdict

The Pebble Index 01 is an unusually focused wearable. At $75, it offers a physical shortcut for turning fleeting thoughts into phone-organized notes, reminders, lists, and automations. Its privacy-friendly button activation, years-long battery life, open-source direction, and integration potential distinguish it from mainstream health rings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Its limitations are equally central to the product: no health sensors, no screen, no long recordings, close-range microphone use, dependence on an iPhone or Android phone, an evolving app, no user charging, and no sizing exchanges. The ring is not a smaller Oura or a discreet meeting recorder.

Buy it if the phrase “I would capture that if reaching for my phone were easier” describes a recurring problem. Skip it if you want health data, standalone intelligence, conventional recording flexibility, or a device designed to be recharged and kept for many battery cycles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Pebble Index 01 a health-tracking smart ring?

No. The Index 01 does not track heart rate, sleep, blood oxygen, steps, workouts, or other biometric data. Its purpose is voice capture and phone-assisted productivity actions.

Can Pebble Index 01 work without a phone?

The ring can capture and temporarily queue recordings while the phone is out of Bluetooth range. However, the phone and Pebble app are needed for syncing, transcription, organization, integrations, and most AI actions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is the Pebble Index 01 waterproof?

No. Although Pebble lists water resistance to one meter and says some everyday water exposure is acceptable, it warns that water can enter the microphone and reduce volume. Treat it as water-resistant rather than waterproof, and do not use it for swimming.

How long does the Pebble Index 01 battery last?

No. It uses a silver-oxide battery and is not rechargeable. Pebble estimates roughly two to three years depending on recording habits, after which the ring is intended to be returned for recycling and replaced.

How long can the Pebble Index 01 record?

It can record a short thought of up to about two minutes, and the ring holds roughly five minutes of recordings before syncing. It is designed for personal notes and commands, not meetings, interviews, or distant conversations.
