Its defining upgrade is a larger edge-to-edge, 64-color e-paper touchscreen inside a stainless-steel circular case. It also keeps Pebble’s physical buttons and promises an estimated 10–14 days of battery life.
There are important caveats: as of August 18, 2026, new orders are listed as shipping in September; the watch has no heart-rate sensor or GPS; and Pebble’s own July update documented ongoing software and hardware issues. Round 2 is best understood as a minimalist notification, watchface, and app platform—not an Apple Watch replacement.

What is the Pebble Round 2?
The Round 2 is Core Devices’ modern revival of the Pebble Time Round, the company’s first circular smartwatch, introduced in 2015. It uses the Pebble name and open-source PebbleOS, but it is a newly produced watch with updated display hardware, touchscreen input, and a redesigned user experience.

Core Devices says the watch combines elements of the Pebble Time 2 electrical design with the original Time Round’s mechanical design. The result is a lightweight, conventional-looking round watch with Pebble’s characteristic always-on display and button-driven interface.

Round 2 was announced on January 2, 2026, at $199. The original launch plan targeted May shipping, but that is no longer the current schedule. The official Pebble store currently lists new orders as shipping in September.
Available configurations include matte black with a 20 mm band, brushed silver with either a 14 mm or 20 mm band, and polished rose gold with a 14 mm band. A silicone band and charging dongle are included.
The display is the real upgrade
The original Pebble Time Round looked elegant, but its small display was surrounded by a conspicuous inactive bezel. Round 2 addresses that weakness with a 1.3-inch circular e-paper panel covering more of the watch face.
| Display feature | Pebble Round 2 |
|---|---|
| Panel type | Color e-paper |
| Colors | 64 |
| Resolution | 260 × 260 pixels |
| Pixel density | 200 DPI according to the current official specification |
| Input | Touchscreen plus four physical buttons |
| Lighting | Backlight |
The current official specification lists 260 × 260 pixels at 200 DPI. TechCrunch reported a different 283 DPI figure during launch coverage, so 200 DPI is the more appropriate number to use for the current product specification.
“Smarter display tech” does not mean artificial intelligence or a fundamentally new operating system. In practical terms, it means a larger color e-paper touchscreen, a reduced bezel, a backlight for dark environments, and more usable space for watchfaces, notifications, and apps.

E-paper remains a deliberate trade-off. It is designed for low-power, glanceable information and an always-on appearance rather than OLED-style animation, saturated color, or video. Color e-paper can look less vivid and less fluid than a modern OLED, and the backlight is necessary in darkness. A circular panel can also leave less efficient space around text-heavy interfaces than a rectangular screen.
Touch adds convenience, but it does not replace the tactile Pebble experience. Four physical buttons remain available for navigation, making it possible to use the watch without relying entirely on swipes or precise taps.

Pebble Round 2 versus Pebble Time Round
| Feature | Pebble Time Round | Pebble Round 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Design | Circular | Circular stainless-steel case |
| Display | Smaller color e-paper screen with a large bezel | 1.3-inch, 64-color e-paper touchscreen |
| Thickness | Approximately 7.5 mm | 8.1 mm |
| Battery | About a couple of days in launch coverage | Estimated 10–14 days |
| Controls | Physical buttons | Four buttons plus touchscreen |
| Health features | Basic Pebble-era tracking | Steps and sleep; no heart-rate monitor |
| Launch price | $249 | $199 |
Round 2 should not be described as thinner than the original. At 8.1 mm, it is slightly thicker than the approximately 7.5 mm Time Round, although its proportions still give it a slim appearance.
The largest practical improvements are the usable screen area and battery estimate. Round 2 also adds touchscreen interaction, a stainless-steel frame, a backlight, and a more capable platform. It remains recognizably Pebble rather than becoming a miniature phone on the wrist.

Round 2 delivers the core Pebble experience: always-on watchfaces, phone notifications, music controls, call silencing, custom apps, and physical-button navigation. Touch interaction is available where supported, while the e-paper screen remains visible without the behavior of a typical OLED smartwatch.
It supports step and sleep tracking, but its health system is intentionally limited. The three-axis IMU and compass provide useful motion and orientation capabilities, yet there is no heart-rate monitor. Third-party apps cannot create heart-rate data that the hardware does not measure.
The watch also connects to the Pebble Appstore, where users can find apps and watchfaces, and developers can customize the platform through the Pebble SDK. Pebble’s official materials refer broadly to more than 10,000 apps and watchfaces. A July 2026 company update separately reported 2,120 apps and watchfaces created specifically for Pebble Time 2 and Round 2. Those figures cover different scopes.
Voice-related features are more complicated. The launch announcement described dual microphones for speech input and message replies, but the current specification table summarizes the hardware as microphone-only and lists no speaker. Voice functions are therefore software- and platform-dependent, rather than evidence of a fully independent voice assistant. At launch, voice input and message replies were described as Android-only, with iOS support planned in the EU.

What the Round 2 cannot do
- No heart-rate monitoring: It cannot provide the continuous heart-rate and workout data offered by many Garmin, Apple, Samsung, and Fitbit watches.
- No serious sports platform: Pebble does not position this watch for serious running, cycling, swimming, or triathlon use.
- No stated GPS workout tracking: Buyers should not treat apps as a substitute for dedicated GPS hardware and sports tools.
- No speaker: The official specification table lists a microphone but no speaker, limiting audio and call functionality.
- Incomplete iPhone parity: Pebble says third-party watches generally cannot send notification replies on iOS because of Apple’s platform policies.
- No OLED-style display experience: The screen favors battery life and readability over high-contrast brightness, fluid animation, and rich color.
- No immediate delivery: New orders are currently listed as shipping in September.
These limitations are central to the buying decision. Round 2 is not a cheaper Apple Watch with fewer features; it is a different type of smartwatch built around low distraction, long battery life, buttons, and customization.

The closest in-brand alternative is the Pebble Time 2, listed at $225 and currently shown as in stock with shipping within 48 hours. It has a larger 1.5-inch, 64-color e-paper touchscreen, a heart-rate monitor, a speaker and microphone, and a 22 mm strap.
| Choose Round 2 if you prioritize | Choose Time 2 if you prioritize |

| Circular, dressier styling | A larger rectangular display |
| Compact 41.5 mm design | Heart-rate tracking |
| 14 mm or 20 mm bands | Speaker and microphone hardware |
| The classic Time Round aesthetic | Immediate listed availability |
The Pebble 2 Duo is the cheaper option at $149, although it is currently sold out. It uses a 1.2-inch black-and-white e-paper display and a polycarbonate frame, with a more utilitarian design. It may suit buyers who want the lowest-cost Pebble experience, but it does not deliver Round 2’s stainless-steel case or color display.
Check the band width before ordering. A 14 mm band is not interchangeable with a 20 mm configuration simply because both watches are called Round 2.

Launch status and software risks
The September shipping date matters because the original May target has passed. Pebble’s July production update described a planned mass-production ramp alongside continuing software and hardware work, rather than a completely settled, broadly fulfilled launch.

The same update reported user issues including inaccurate step and sleep metrics, accelerometer failures, and touchscreen failures or misplaced touch registration. Pebble said fixes were being worked on without providing a stated completion date. Buyers who want a mature, trouble-free product on day one should take that uncertainty seriously.
Legacy app compatibility also deserves caution. Existing Pebble apps and watchfaces may need updates for the round display, and the company released SDK changes to help developers adapt software to the larger screen. The Pebble Appstore is a meaningful advantage, but it does not guarantee that every older app will render perfectly on Round 2.
Who should buy it?
Round 2 makes sense for Pebble veterans and minimalist smartwatch buyers who want a watch that looks more like a traditional timepiece than a fitness computer. Its strongest combination is the circular stainless-steel design, always-on color e-paper, physical buttons, open software, and an estimated 10–14-day battery.

The display and battery strategy are designed for glanceable information, not for replacing every phone function.
Reconsider it if you need heart-rate data, GPS workouts, detailed training metrics, swimming features, a speaker, deep iPhone messaging interaction, or immediate shipping. Runners, cyclists, and triathletes should look first at Garmin’s smartwatch range. iPhone users seeking the broadest communications and health ecosystem should consider the Apple Watch, while Android buyers wanting a bright modern display and broader health functionality may prefer Samsung Galaxy Watch.
Verdict
The Pebble Round 2 improves the original Time Round where it mattered most: its display is larger, more usable, touch-enabled, and still based on low-power color e-paper. The stainless-steel case and physical controls preserve the understated character that made the original appealing, while the estimated battery life is dramatically more practical.
But its charm should not obscure its boundaries. It lacks heart-rate hardware, GPS sports capabilities, a listed speaker, and complete iOS feature parity. Shipping is currently delayed to September for new orders, and Pebble has acknowledged launch-stage software and hardware problems.
