The Pebble Time 2 now shipping is a new Core Devices smartwatch, not the Pebble Time 2 that was canceled in 2016. Its final industrial design was revealed in August 2025: a stainless-steel case, 1.5-inch color e-paper touchscreen, physical buttons and a 22mm quick-release band. As of August 2026, production is underway and most pre-orders have been fulfilled, but stock and delivery timing can change.

Which Pebble Time 2 is this?

The name refers to two different watches. The original Pebble company announced a Pebble Time 2 in 2016, but it never reached customers; Pebble’s assets were acquired by Fitbit and the watch was canceled. The current model is a new product from Core Devices, led by Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky, following Google’s open-sourcing of PebbleOS. It was first announced as Core Time 2 and renamed after Core Devices recovered the Pebble trademark. Migicovsky’s August 2025 design reveal explains the change.

What the final design looks like

The August 2025 reveal settled the watch’s industrial design, but Core Devices cautioned that the early samples shown did not yet have final production quality or finish. The final concept is closer to the metal Pebble Time Steel than the preliminary Core Time 2 shown in March 2025.

  • A more curved, cohesive case replaces the earlier, less integrated look.
  • The top and bottom buttons are angled rather than arranged in a straight line with the center button.
  • The 316 stainless-steel front, back and buttons have knurled, cross-hatched button texture inspired by the Pebble Time Steel, plus color accents and a screw-mounted back.
  • The front uses flat Gorilla Glass with a ceramic-like PVD coating. The display and glass are optically bonded; the flat surface is intended to reduce distracting reflections.

The planned color combinations are black/gray, black/red, silver/blue and silver/gray. In production updates, the company referred to black, red, gray and blue inventory.

Core Devices says the display uses the same basic color e-paper technology as the Pebble Time Steel. The speaker is intended to support tones, tunes and spoken text readouts; the watch is not intended for phone calls. The second microphone is meant to help with environmental-noise cancellation. Some of these capabilities depend on software support, rather than being fully available simply because the hardware is present.

What it is designed to do—and what it leaves out

Pebble Time 2 is a phone companion, not a wrist-sized replacement for a smartphone or a high-end sports watch. Its intended strengths are an always-visible e-paper screen, physical controls alongside touch, notifications, music control, customizable watchfaces and watchapps, and basic step, sleep and heart-rate tracking. The watch has no built-in GPS or cellular connectivity. Health features are basic wellness tracking, not medical monitoring or a substitute for a GPS sports platform.

Existing Pebble watchfaces and apps are part of the appeal. The revived developer platform is adding APIs for the touchscreen, speaker and RGB backlight. The Pebble mobile app is available for iOS and Android, but compatibility does not guarantee feature parity: notification replies have historically been more restricted on iPhone than Android. Check current app and firmware details if replies are important to you.

Battery life: a target, not a 30-day promise

The launch announcement estimated up to 30 days, while the company described four weeks as its target. In its March 2026 production update, Core Devices said the hardware supported that target but the software then averaged about 14 days. In the July 14, 2026 update, the company reported median battery life of about 21 days and said it planned further optimization. Those are company-reported figures, not a guarantee for every wearer.

Battery life can vary with backlight use, health tracking, vibration, animated faces and watchfaces that update frequently. If a unit lasts fewer than roughly three days, the July update says the company treats that as a serious hardware issue; owners should report it through the Pebble app rather than assume such life is normal.

Water resistance and materials to consider

The production rating is 30 meters / 3 ATM. Core Devices says the watch is designed for brief exposure such as hand washing, rain, bathing or showering, swimming and paddling. It advises against diving, long periods underwater, hot tubs or hot showers, and high-pressure water—including direct shower spray or forceful impact against water. The rating does not make this a waterproof dive watch. See the mass-production update for the company’s usage cautions.

Software openness comes with small-team trade-offs

Core Devices says the core software needed to use the watch is open source, and the watch builds on PebbleOS and its community ecosystem. That makes the platform more open to developers and tinkerers, but open-source code does not guarantee a polished or fully mature first-party experience. Some third-party or binary components remain non-free, and the company has described its team as small, with the consequent risk of slower support, bug fixes and feature development than a large smartwatch maker. Its software roadmap and expectations spell out the likelihood of rough edges and regressions.

Known early production and software issues

In its July 2026 update, Core Devices described reports of battery drain, inaccurate step or sleep data, accelerometer failures, touchscreens registering touches in the wrong place or failing, cracked glass and buttons detaching. The company said some touch problems might be software-related, while others could be hardware defects. It reported 51 glass-cracking cases and said it had provided free replacements to affected customers at that point; that account does not establish a permanent replacement policy for future cases.

These reports are useful context for a new buyer, but they do not establish how common each fault is among all watches. If you receive a unit with a serious problem, contact Core Devices through the Pebble app and review the current support and warranty terms before relying on any past replacement practice.

Shipping, price and purchase terms

The original December 2025 shipping expectation is outdated. Core Devices later told customers that March or April 2026 was more realistic. Mass production began in March 2026; by July 14, the company said more than 23,000 watches had been built and over 80% of pre-orders had been fulfilled. It expected to finish the remaining pre-orders by late July or early August and move to ordinary in-stock sales, while warning that inventory could sell out and return to pre-order status.

For availability, use the official rePebble watch store rather than relying on an old shipping estimate. The $225 price was announced in August 2025, not independently confirmed as the current checkout price. Check the live listing for price, taxes, duties and shipping timing. The March production update stated a 30-day warranty and no buyer’s-remorse refunds after ordering or confirmation; verify the terms shown when you buy.

Who should consider it?

Pebble Time 2 makes the most sense for former Pebble owners, e-paper-watch fans, developers and people who want notifications and basic tracking without charging every day. Standard 22mm bands also make it easier to choose a compatible replacement strap, and the screw-mounted back and replaceable-battery design intent are more repair-oriented than many sealed watches. That design does not guarantee easy repairs or wide availability of parts.

It is a weaker fit if your priorities are GPS training, cellular service, advanced health features, extensive third-party support or highly polished cross-device integration. If you want a conventional modern smartwatch, compare the feature set with Apple Watch or Pixel Watch; for dedicated GPS training and sports metrics, start with Garmin’s smartwatch range. Those are different product priorities, not direct equivalents to Pebble’s e-paper and multi-week battery proposition.
