The original headline is now out of date. Core Devices’ revived Pebble lineup is no longer simply “coming later this year”: Pebble Time 2 is listed as in stock and shipping within 48 hours, while new Pebble Round 2 orders are listed for September 2026 shipment. Pebble 2 Duo has already shipped but is currently sold out.
The revival is aimed at buyers who want an always-on e-paper display, physical buttons, lightweight notifications, community software, and battery life measured in weeks—not an Apple Watch or Garmin replacement.

What happened to Pebble?
Pebble was founded by Eric Migicovsky and became one of Kickstarter’s best-known early smartwatch successes. The original company shut down in 2016. Fitbit acquired its assets, and Google later acquired Fitbit.
The current products come from a new, much smaller operation led by Migicovsky and known as Core Devices. It is not the old Pebble corporation returning unchanged. Open-sourcing PebbleOS helped preserve the platform and gave the revival a technical and community foundation. Core Devices later recovered the Pebble trademark and renamed its first two products.

That distinction matters: buyers are getting a new company, new hardware, and a community-oriented software ecosystem, with the Pebble name and design philosophy restored.

From Core 2 Duo to Pebble 2 Duo
Core Devices announced the first two revived watches on March 18, 2025, under the temporary names Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2. After the trademark was recovered, they became Pebble 2 Duo and Pebble Time 2. Pebble Round 2 was announced later, on January 2, 2026.

Pebble Time 2 is the rectangular model and the closest spiritual successor to the original Pebble Time. It combines a 1.5-inch, 64-color e-paper display with a touchscreen and four physical buttons. Its construction uses stainless steel and polycarbonate.

Pebble estimates battery life at up to 30 days, but that is not a guaranteed result. In its July 2026 production update, the company reported median Time 2 battery life of approximately 21 days. Animated watchfaces, frequent backlight use, vibration, health tracking, and individual app behavior can reduce endurance. Pebble Round 2
Round 2 is the style-focused option: a round stainless-steel watch inspired by the original Pebble Time Round. It is approximately 8.1 mm thick and comes in matte black, brushed silver, and polished rose gold.
- 1.3-inch, 64-color e-paper display at 260 × 260 pixels and 200 DPI
- Touchscreen and four physical buttons
- Three-axis IMU and compass
- Step and sleep tracking
- Microphone support, with voice-input and message-reply features varying by platform and region
- Backlight and vibration motor
- 14-mm or 20-mm quick-release bands, depending on the variant
- Listed 30-meter water resistance
Its battery estimate is roughly two weeks. That is shorter than Time 2’s expected endurance, but still substantially longer than most modern OLED smartwatches. The official store currently lists new orders for September shipment; the earlier May target slipped as production and software work took longer than expected. Pebble 2 Duo
Pebble 2 Duo is the simpler, lower-cost monochrome model. It is the choice for buyers who want the most stripped-back interpretation of Pebble, but it lacks Time 2’s color display and is currently marked sold out. Availability may therefore matter more than its $149 price.

Why the shipping story changed
- March 18, 2025: Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 were announced and opened for preorder.
- July 2025: The trademark recovery led to the Pebble 2 Duo and Pebble Time 2 names.
- January 2, 2026: Pebble Round 2 was announced with an initial May shipment target.
- February 2026: Production and software updates acknowledged delays.
- March 24, 2026: Pebble Time 2 entered mass production.
- July 14, 2026: Pebble reported more than 23,000 Time 2 units built and more than 80% of preorders fulfilled.
- Late July and August 2026: Remaining Time 2 preorder batches were targeted for completion.
- August 18, 2026: The store listed Time 2 as in stock and shipping within 48 hours.
- September 2026: New Round 2 orders were listed for shipment.
These are production and store-status milestones, not unconditional guarantees. A small hardware company can still encounter manufacturing, software, or fulfillment delays.
What PebbleOS offers
PebbleOS remains the central reason to choose these watches. It is open source, as is the mobile app, and the revived platform retains support for apps, watchfaces, notifications, and physical controls. Pebble says its ecosystem contains more than 10,000 apps and watchfaces; its July update separately reported 2,120 apps and watchfaces created specifically for Time 2 and Round 2.
CloudPebble has returned as a browser-based development environment. Updated SDK work supports features including the Time 2 touchscreen, speaker, RGB backlight, JavaScript apps, debugging, and Round 2 hardware.

What these watches cannot replace
Pebble’s strengths are endurance, simplicity, readability, physical buttons, and community software. Its limitations are just as important:
- It does not offer the full app, communication, or health ecosystem of an Apple Watch.
- It is not a serious GPS running, cycling, or training platform like a Garmin.
- Health tracking is basic activity and sleep tracking, not medical-grade analysis or advanced athletic metrics.
- iPhone integration is more restricted than Android integration. Notification replies and other interactive functions may be unavailable or limited on iOS.
- Some features may arrive with software updates rather than being fully mature at launch.
- Compatibility with iPhone and Android does not mean feature parity between the platforms.
Choose Garmin for GPS training and sports analytics, Apple Watch for deep iPhone integration, or Samsung Galaxy Watch or Google Pixel Watch for richer Android smartwatch functionality. Those are use-case alternatives, not direct feature-for-feature equivalents.
Which Pebble should you buy?
Choose Pebble Time 2 if you want:
- The rectangular Pebble form factor
- The largest display and longest battery estimate in the revived lineup
- Heart-rate tracking
- A successor that feels closest to Pebble Time
- Immediate availability, subject to the store’s current inventory
Choose Pebble Round 2 if you want:
- A round, thinner, stainless-steel watch
- A more traditional watch appearance
- Two-week battery life rather than maximum endurance
- More emphasis on style than sensors
- September delivery is acceptable
Consider Pebble 2 Duo only if:
- You specifically want a simple monochrome Pebble
- You do not need color or touchscreen interaction
- You can find legitimate stock or are prepared to wait for a restock

- Taxes and tariffs: U.S. customers may face an additional tariff, while international buyers may owe local taxes, duties, or handling fees.
- Preorder confirmation: Pebble may ask customers to confirm address, color, accessories, and required payments before shipment.
- Locked orders: The FAQ says an order becomes locked after confirmation, although address changes may remain possible until shipment.
- Warranty: The official policy provides only 30 days for manufacturing defects, which is unusually short compared with many mainstream electronics warranties.
- Water exposure: A 30-meter/3-ATM rating is appropriate for rain, splashes, hand washing, and brief immersion—not diving. Avoid hot tubs, hot showers, and high-pressure water. Water resistance can decline with age, damage, or repair.
Verdict
Pebble is genuinely back, but the accurate 2026 story is a shipping and buying update rather than a future announcement. Pebble Time 2 is the strongest all-round choice for former Pebble owners and anyone prioritizing battery life, a rectangular display, and heart-rate tracking. Round 2 is the style pick for buyers who prefer a thin, round stainless-steel watch and can wait for September delivery. Pebble 2 Duo remains appealing as the simplest and least expensive option, but it is currently sold out.
Buy one if weeks-long battery life, e-paper, buttons, notifications, and community software matter more than advanced sports tracking or polished platform integration. Avoid it if you need a dedicated fitness watch, a full Apple Watch substitute, extensive iOS interactivity, or a long mainstream-electronics warranty.
