Meta’s display-equipped smart glasses are no longer just a leak. The product shown in a prematurely exposed Meta video was officially announced as Meta Ray-Ban Display on September 17, 2025, and launched in selected U.S. locations on September 30 for $799, including the Meta Neural Band wrist controller.
They add a small, full-color display to the camera, microphone, speaker and AI features of Meta’s displayless glasses. The result is closer to glanceable smart eyewear than to a full augmented-reality headset.

What was leaked?
Before Meta Connect 2025, an unlisted or prematurely exposed Meta video reportedly showed Ray-Ban-branded glasses with a display in one lens and a wrist-worn controller. The footage appeared to demonstrate gesture controls, heads-up information and other visual interactions. Tom’s Guide reported the pre-event exposure.
This was different from an anonymous hardware leak or a third-party photograph of a prototype: the reported material was a company video that appeared online before the formal announcement. However, the video itself should be treated as reported pre-launch evidence rather than independent confirmation of every specification.

What Meta officially announced
Meta unveiled Meta Ray-Ban Display on September 17, 2025. The glasses combine:
- A full-color display built into the right lens
- Cameras for photos, video and visual AI features
- Microphones
- Open-ear speakers
- Meta AI
- The Meta Neural Band, an electromyography-based wrist controller
Meta positions the display as a quick-glance interface. It is designed to show useful information without requiring the wearer to take out a phone, rather than provide unrestricted access to a phone-sized screen or computer interface. Meta’s announcement explains the product’s intended interaction model.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →How the in-lens display works
The display sits in the right lens and is specified by Ray-Ban as a 600×600-pixel, full-color display. It is positioned to the side of the wearer’s field of view, allowing short glances while keeping the main view unobstructed.
Meta Ray-Ban Display can present information such as:
- Message previews and replies
- Meta AI answers
- Captions and live translations
- Walking-navigation prompts
- Step-by-step visual instructions
- Selected information during video calls
The display is therefore best understood as a glanceable notification and assistance layer. It is not designed for long-form video, large documents, conventional gaming or replacing a phone screen.
Calling the glasses “AR” requires qualification. They have a display and can overlay useful information in the wearer’s view, so “limited AR glasses” is reasonable. But the display is monocular, small and task-oriented. It does not deliver the binocular, room-anchored holographic experience associated with more ambitious spatial-computing systems such as Meta’s Orion prototype.
What the Meta Neural Band does
The Neural Band is an EMG wristband. It detects electrical signals associated with subtle muscle activity in the wrist and translates those signals into commands. “Neural” does not mean that it reads thoughts, and it is not a brain-computer interface.
Meta says the band can let users scroll, select items, click and control media without touching the glasses. Meta has also described more expressive finger movements for text entry as a longer-term direction. The band is intended to make interaction discreet when voice commands or touching the frame would be inconvenient.

Meta says its EMG research involved nearly 200,000 participants, but that is a company-provided research claim, not independent evidence that every user will experience perfect recognition. Gesture accuracy, calibration, comfort, false activations and missed inputs require hands-on testing.
The band is rated IPX7 for water resistance and has a claimed battery life of up to 18 hours. Users must still fit, wear and charge a second device alongside the glasses.

Actual battery life will vary with display brightness and use, camera activity, video calls, AI requests, audio volume, connectivity and environmental conditions. “Up to six hours” should not be read as a guaranteed all-day runtime. Ray-Ban lists the display and glasses battery figures, while Meta provides the Neural Band specifications.
What can Meta Ray-Ban Display do?
Messages and calls
The glasses can show and support replies to messages from services including WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram when connected to a compatible phone and supported software. They also support two-way video calls, with the glasses’ cameras and audio hardware handling the call experience.
AI assistance
Meta AI can provide answers through audio and, where supported, visual information through the lens. The visual display is useful when an answer is easier to follow as short text, a list, a caption or a sequence of instructions.
Translations and captions
Live translations and captions are among the clearest reasons to want a display. Text in the lens can be more discreet and easier to reference than audio alone, although language support and regional availability may vary.
Navigation
Meta’s later product guidance highlights walking-navigation prompts. These are intended as short directional cues, not a full map permanently floating over the world.
Camera and audio features
Like displayless Ray-Ban Meta glasses, the product can capture photos and video, play audio through open-ear speakers and respond to voice interaction. The display adds visual output; it does not remove the need for a connected phone and Meta’s software ecosystem.

Meta Ray-Ban Display versus displayless Meta glasses

| Launch price position | Lower | $799 at launch |
The display is the key reason to pay more. If a buyer mainly wants hands-free photos, calls, music and voice-based AI, displayless Ray-Ban Meta glasses may be the simpler choice. Meta’s 2026 portfolio guide distinguishes its displayless and display-equipped models.

Limitations buyers should understand
It is not a full AR computer
The small monocular display is suited to short information bursts, not sustained reading or immersive experiences. Bright sunlight, lens tint, prescription configuration and the wearer’s eyesight may affect legibility. The product should not be purchased with the expectation of a full-field, binocular AR view.
There are two batteries to manage
The glasses can last up to six hours according to Ray-Ban, while the Neural Band is rated for up to 18 hours by Meta. The charging case extends glasses use but does not eliminate charging friction. Display-heavy use, calls, camera recording and frequent AI queries may reduce runtime.
The wristband adds hardware and a learning curve
The Neural Band is the product’s most distinctive control method, but it is also an additional wearable that must fit properly, remain charged and be learned. The available launch information does not establish how reliably it handles every gesture in everyday conditions.
Phone and software dependence remains
Meta Ray-Ban Display is a companion wearable, not a standalone replacement for a phone. Features depend on a connected smartphone, Meta software, supported apps, account services and regional availability. Phone operating-system requirements, messaging support, translations, navigation and display features may differ between countries and platforms.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCamera privacy still matters
The display may keep some information private to the wearer, but it does not make the overall product private. Nearby people may not know when they are being recorded, and workplaces, schools, venues and local privacy laws may restrict camera use. Buyers should review Meta’s account, recording, cloud-processing and AI settings and follow local rules and social expectations.

Meta launched the glasses in selected U.S. locations on September 30, 2025, at a starting price of $799 including the Neural Band. Meta originally said expansion to Canada, France, Italy and the United Kingdom was planned for early 2026. A launch plan is not proof that the product is currently stocked in every named country.
As of September 2026, readers should check the official Meta and Ray-Ban stores and authorized retailers for live inventory, regional pricing, frame availability, band sizing and whether an in-person demonstration or fitting is required. Retailer pages have shown limited availability and pricing signals that do not necessarily match the original $799 launch MSRP, so a retailer listing should be confirmed before purchase.
Prescription ordering was announced by Meta’s eyewear partner EssilorLuxottica, including Transitions lenses in the announced configuration. That does not guarantee support for every prescription, progressive lens, tint or treatment. Prescription buyers should confirm the supported range, lens options, additional charges, remake policy and local servicing before ordering. EssilorLuxottica describes the announced prescription offering.

Who should consider them?
Meta Ray-Ban Display makes the most sense for early adopters who specifically want visual notifications, captions, translations, navigation prompts or AI answers without looking down at a phone. It may also appeal to people who frequently use Meta’s messaging services and are comfortable wearing both glasses and a wrist controller.
It is a poor fit for anyone seeking full spatial AR, unrestricted phone-app access, long-form video viewing, all-day use without charging or a camera-free wearable. Buyers who dislike voice assistants, connected cameras or an additional wrist device should also look at simpler alternatives.
Alternatives
Displayless Ray-Ban Meta: A better fit for photos, video, calls, music and voice-based AI without the cost and complexity of a display or Neural Band.
Oakley Meta: A sport-oriented option within Meta’s broader AI-glasses lineup for readers who prioritize athletic styling or sports use over an in-lens display.

Meta Glasses: EssilorLuxottica and Meta announced a separate lower-cost Meta Glasses collection in 2026, positioned below Meta Ray-Ban Display. Reported U.S. starting prices should be checked against current official listings before treating them as a live offer.
Other display glasses: Products from companies such as XREAL and RayNeo may be relevant to buyers who want a larger or more conventional visual display. Their current pricing, compatibility and regional availability require separate verification.
Verdict
Meta Ray-Ban Display is a meaningful step beyond audio-only AI glasses, but the leak did not reveal a hidden phone replacement or a full-AR headset. Its real novelty is the combination of familiar Ray-Ban-style eyewear, a small visual display and subtle EMG wrist control.
At $799 at launch, the deciding question is simple: are glanceable messages, captions, translations, navigation and AI visuals valuable enough to justify the premium, two-device charging routine and Meta ecosystem dependence? If yes, these are Meta’s most ambitious consumer glasses yet. If not, displayless Ray-Ban Meta glasses offer the more straightforward version of the same camera, audio and AI concept.
