The Spirit Mark 2—also written Spirit Mk II or Spirit MKII—is part of Peter Speake-Marin’s Spirit line. It followed the Spirit Pioneer, with reported case diameter increasing from 38 mm to 42 mm. SJX Watches covered the model at launch in November 2012 and its DLC-coated version in September 2013.
The name can be styled in several ways in listings, so check the reference, case material and movement documentation rather than relying on the seller’s title alone.

How do the steel, DLC and rose-gold versions differ?
Steel
Steel is one of the documented case options. Confirm the exact reference and finish on the particular watch, as the available reporting does not establish a complete catalogue of every production configuration.

DLC-coated steel
The DLC version has a dark coating over steel. SJX presented it in 2013 as a regular-collection option, not as a limited edition. Phillips catalogued a specific 2015 example as reference PIC.20001, with a 42 mm DLC steel case. Its listing describes a leather strap and DLC steel pin buckle; those details apply to that lot and do not establish the original configuration of every Mk II.
Rose gold
SJX’s 2012 coverage notes that a handful of rose-gold examples were made. That report supports their existence, but does not provide a full production count or establish that every rose-gold example shared the same specification.

What did the Spirit Mark 2 cost, and what is one worth now?
The historical prices reported around launch were approximately CHF 11,000 for the model in 2012 and CHF 6,900 before taxes for the DLC version in 2013, according to SJX Watches. These are period prices, not current retail prices or present-day valuations.
Phillips listed a 2015 DLC example, reference PIC.20001, with an estimate of CHF 5,000–10,000 for its Fall 2026 online auction. An estimate is not a completed sale price, and one lot cannot establish a market-wide value or a price premium for DLC. The listing also documents a 2019 service invoice among that example’s records; this is specific to the lot, not evidence of a general service history for the model.

For a real buying comparison, weigh the condition and finish, service documentation, completeness of papers and accessories, and asking price against dated evidence for comparable watches. The sources here do not establish a current value advantage for steel, DLC or rose gold.

- Identity: Ask for clear photographs of the watch and its reference details. Confirm that the case material and finish match the listing.
- Movement: Request documentation identifying the movement as a Technotime TT738, and have its operation assessed by a qualified watchmaker if needed.
- Condition: Examine the case and, for a DLC example, the coating for wear or damage. Ask for close-up photographs and a description of any refinishing or repairs.
- Service and completeness: Request service records, papers and an itemized list of included accessories. Confirm whether the strap and buckle are original or replacements.
- Price: Compare the asking price with dated, genuinely comparable evidence. Do not treat a historical retail figure or an auction estimate as a completed sale.
Operating guidance and servicing
The official Speake-Marin guide identified in the available sources is for the Spirit Collection Wing Commander, not the Spirit Mark 2. Its winding, crown, date-setting and water-resistance instructions should not be transferred to the Mk II. Use documentation specific to the individual watch or ask a qualified watchmaker before operating unfamiliar controls. A Mk II-specific service interval and parts catalogue were not verified.
