The Piaget Altiplano can be an exceptional hand-wound dress watch, but it is a collection, not one fixed specification. The 38 mm rose-gold Altiplano Origin G0A51500 is a useful current example: it is manually wound, measures 6 mm thick, and has a stated 40-hour power reserve. Whether it is the right watch depends on your preferred size, precious metal, and willingness to wind it regularly.
What the Altiplano is—and what it is not
Piaget describes Altiplano as an ultra-thin watch collection. It includes both mechanical hand-wound and automatic models, so the collection name alone does not tell you how a particular watch is powered. The hand-wound focus applies to selected references, not every Altiplano. Piaget dates the original 9P movement to 1957 as part of the collection’s history. Piaget’s Altiplano collection page shows the range and its history.
That distinction matters in a review: case dimensions, winding style, and reserve belong to an exact reference and movement, not to the Altiplano name as a whole. The specifications below describe two particular hand-wound watches, not every model in the collection.
The 38 mm Altiplano Origin G0A51500
The G0A51500 is a restrained dress-watch proposition in rose gold, with a 38 mm case and a listed thickness of 6 mm. Its hand-wound 430P movement is 2.15 mm thick. Piaget lists 131 components, 18 jewels, a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, and a 40-hour power reserve. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance-test results. Piaget’s G0A51500 listing provides the reference-specific details.
#1 Best Overall
- Two-piece tan genuine leather strap with natural stitching
- Silver-tone buckle & hardware
- Designed to fit watches with 20mm lug width
- Fits wrist circumferences of 6 to 8 inches
At 6 mm, the case has the proportions that make an ultra-thin watch appealing under a cuff. The trade-off is practical: this is a precious-metal, manually wound watch, and its listed water resistance is 3 bar. That rating should not be treated as a promise of suitability for swimming or other water use; consult Piaget’s care guidance for handling and maintenance.
What the hand-wound format asks of its owner
Manual winding is part of the experience, but it also makes regular winding an owner task. The stated 40-hour reserve is specific to the G0A51500’s 430P; it is not the reserve for every Altiplano. If you want a watch that keeps running without routine winding, an automatic model in the collection may suit you better.

A smaller, more jewelry-oriented alternative
The hand-wound G0A37041 takes a different direction: it is a 26 mm white-gold watch set with diamonds, listed at 5.6 mm thick, with 3 bar water resistance and a 40-hour reserve. Piaget lists its movement as 2.15 mm thick, with 131 components. Piaget’s G0A37041 listing identifies its specifications.
This is not simply a smaller version of the 38 mm Origin. The white gold and diamond setting give it a more jewelry-oriented character, while the G0A51500 pairs a larger case with rose gold and a different visual presence. Choose between them by considering the intended wearer, preferred scale, and dial and case treatment—not diameter alone.

Do not mix up the 430P and 830P/838P specifications
Movement-family differences can change the figures and winding instructions. Piaget’s official guide for watches with the 830P and 838P movements lists an approximately 60-hour power reserve and a 2.5 mm movement thickness. Those numbers do not apply to the G0A51500: Piaget lists that watch’s 430P at 2.15 mm thick with a 40-hour reserve. Piaget’s technical guides cover the documented 830P/838P family.
For the documented 830P/838P watches, Piaget instructs owners to wind with the crown in position 0, turning it forward until it locks. That is caliber-specific guidance, not a universal instruction for all Altiplano models. Use the guide for your exact watch or ask Piaget or a qualified watchmaker if you are unsure.

Who should consider an Altiplano?
- Consider the G0A51500 if you want a very slim, 38 mm precious-metal dress watch and enjoy the involvement of manual winding.
- Consider the G0A37041 if you prefer a much smaller, diamond-set white-gold watch with a jewelry-led look.
- Look elsewhere in the collection if you need an automatic movement, a different case material or size, or a watch intended for more water exposure.
- Compare the exact reference before relying on a movement specification, power reserve, or care instruction; Altiplano models do not all share these details.
What to check before buying
Piaget’s official product pages establish listed specifications but do not establish a current local price or a verified listing from a particular marketplace. Confirm regional price and availability directly with Piaget or a reputable retailer close to purchase. For any offer, check the exact reference, seller identity, warranty coverage, and—on a pre-owned watch—service history and condition. No accuracy, durability, or resale-value conclusion follows from the specifications alone.
