Short answer: Pixel 10 owners did report a genuine setup failure with the Galaxy Watch 8, Watch 8 Classic and 2025 Galaxy Watch Ultra during the phones’ 2025 launch period. The watch could be detected and the pairing code could be accepted, but setup then failed during account, permission or Galaxy Wearable steps. The problem was reported as addressed through the August 2025 Google Play system update, rolling out globally by September 11, 2025. It should not be treated as an unresolved general incompatibility in 2026.
What actually failed
This was more specific than Bluetooth simply refusing to connect. Users reported that a Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro or Pixel 10 Pro XL could discover a Galaxy Watch 8 or Watch Ultra, display the pairing code and complete that part of the process. The failure often appeared afterward, while Galaxy Wearable was completing setup, requesting permissions, linking a Google account or installing the required watch plug-in.
Some reports also described a secondary Android 16 setup screen that appeared to trigger or accompany the failure. In affected cases, Galaxy Wearable or the watch setup flow became unusable even though the phone and watch had already communicated successfully. Google Pixel Community reports and Samsung Community posts document these launch-period experiences (Google Pixel Community; Samsung Community).
Which devices were involved?
Reported combinations included:
- Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL
- Galaxy Watch 8 and, in separate reports, Galaxy Watch 8 Classic
- The 2025 Galaxy Watch Ultra
That list does not establish that every model, region, carrier edition or software build failed. The evidence consists primarily of community reports rather than a controlled compatibility survey. Some users reported that older Galaxy watches or the 2024 Galaxy Watch Ultra worked with Pixel 10 phones, suggesting that the result could depend on the watch generation, plug-in version, software build or account state. The 2024 and 2025 Watch Ultra models should not be treated as the same product.

Was Galaxy Watch 8 officially incompatible with Pixel 10?
No. The reports do not prove categorical incompatibility. Samsung’s compatibility guidance says modern Galaxy watches can work with Android phones, while warning that features created for Samsung devices may have limited support on non-Samsung phones (Samsung’s compatibility guidance).
Three separate questions are easy to confuse:
- Compatibility: Can the watch pair and operate with the phone?
- Setup reliability: Does the phone-and-watch software successfully complete provisioning?
- Feature parity: Do all Galaxy-phone integrations work on a Pixel?
The 2025 incident concerned setup reliability on particular Pixel 10 and Galaxy Watch combinations. It did not show that every Galaxy Watch was incompatible with every Pixel phone. Nor did a successful pairing mean that a Pixel user would receive the full Galaxy-phone feature set.
Why it probably happened
The timing points to an interaction between the Pixel 10’s Android 16 software, Google’s account and device-setup flow, and Samsung’s Galaxy Wearable software or watch plug-in. That is an evidence-based inference, not a published technical postmortem.

Comparisons from users provide useful clues. Some reports indicated that the same or similar watch could pair with a Pixel 9 running Android 16, while older Galaxy watches or the 2024 Watch Ultra could work with a Pixel 10. Those comparisons argue against both a universal Android 16 incompatibility and a general Pixel Bluetooth hardware defect. They instead suggest a narrower software or provisioning regression affecting particular device generations and setup components.
Google support acknowledged awareness at the forum level, but the available Google and Samsung material does not identify which company owned the underlying defect or provide a detailed root-cause analysis. Community activity demonstrates that multiple people encountered the issue; it cannot be used as a failure rate for all Pixel 10 owners.
Was the problem fixed?
The strongest available update reported that the August 2025 Google Play system update included a fix, with the rollout reported as global by September 11, 2025 (reported update details).

That means the original pairing crisis should now be understood as a launch-period incident that was subsequently mitigated, not as an ongoing August 2026 failure. “Fixed” does not guarantee that every individual setup will succeed: outdated apps, beta software, a watch still registered to another phone, account problems and regional provisioning differences can still interfere. Later community reports describe successful pairings after updates, but they are not a systematic compatibility test.
What to try if setup still fails
Before resetting the watch
- Install the latest available Android and Google Play system updates on the Pixel. Check the Google Play system update date in the phone’s system settings.
- Update Galaxy Wearable through Google Play, along with any watch plug-in it requests.
- Charge the watch, keep it close to the phone and restart both devices.
- Turn Bluetooth off and on again.
- Begin setup from the Galaxy Wearable app, not only from the phone’s generic Bluetooth settings.
- Check that the watch is not still attached to another phone or Samsung account.
These are standard first-line measures, not a guaranteed Pixel 10-specific fix. A successful Bluetooth connection is not enough; setup must also complete the account, permissions and plug-in stages.

If the watch was previously paired
Remove it from the old phone’s Galaxy Wearable app and back up watch data where possible. Only then consider a factory reset and a fresh setup through Galaxy Wearable. A reset can erase locally stored or unsynced information, so it should not be the first response when health or activity data may not have synchronized.

If current software still cannot complete setup
Record the Pixel model, Android build, Google Play system-update date, Galaxy Wearable version, watch model and watch software version. Note the exact point of failure—for example, after code confirmation, during Google-account linking or while installing the plug-in—and provide those details to Google or Samsung support.
One community report described success after enabling developer mode and generating a bug report. That is an anecdotal diagnostic workaround, not an official consumer fix, and it should not be treated as universally effective (Google community report).

Even after setup is repaired, a Galaxy Watch paired with a Pixel is not equivalent to a Galaxy Watch paired with a Samsung phone. Samsung specifically identifies Samsung Pay as restricted to Samsung smartphones in its support guidance. Other manufacturer-specific health, camera, calling, messaging and account integrations may also have limited support outside the Galaxy ecosystem.

Therefore, test the functions that matter to you after setup: notifications, calls, health synchronization, GPS and navigation, apps, payments and any LTE features. Do not assume that successful pairing unlocks every Samsung feature.
Should a Pixel owner buy a Galaxy Watch 8 or Watch Ultra?
A Galaxy Watch can make sense if:
- You specifically prefer Samsung’s hardware, sensors, display, battery behavior or Wear OS app selection.
- Current software completes setup successfully.
- You can live without Samsung-phone-exclusive features.
- You are comfortable with occasional cross-brand support issues.
A Samsung phone is the safer choice if:
- Samsung Pay or Galaxy-specific integrations are essential.
- The watch is central to your daily phone ecosystem.
- You want the most predictable support path for Samsung health and phone features.
A Pixel Watch may fit better if:
You mainly want close integration with Pixel software, Google accounts and Fitbit services. Google’s Pixel Watch setup documentation describes the required Pixel Watch app, Google account and Android compatibility (Google Pixel Watch support). That makes it the more natural first-party choice for many Pixel owners, but it is not a replacement for Samsung-specific hardware or functions.
Incident timeline
- Pixel 10 launch period, 2025: Users reported that Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch Ultra setup could fail after initial Bluetooth pairing.
- Following reports: Google support and community participants indicated awareness, while users compared results across Pixel models and watch generations.
- August 2025: A Google Play system update was reported to contain a pairing fix.
- September 11, 2025: The fix was reported as rolling out globally.
- 2026: The incident is best treated as a resolved launch-period regression, while normal cross-brand feature limitations remain.
Bottom line for buyers and owners
Pixel 10 users were not imagining the Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch Ultra setup problem, but calling it permanent incompatibility is misleading. The failure generally occurred after Bluetooth discovery and code confirmation, appeared tied to a Pixel 10/Android 16-era setup interaction, and was reported fixed through the August 2025 Google Play system update.
Update both devices before returning a watch or phone. If setup now works, judge the combination by the features you actually need—not merely by whether Bluetooth connects. If Samsung-exclusive functions are essential, use a Galaxy phone; if Pixel ecosystem integration is the priority, consider a Pixel Watch instead.
