Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo set up a Pixel Watch or Pixel Watch 2, you need a compatible Android phone, the Google Pixel Watch app, a Google Account, internet access, Bluetooth, and location permissions. Charge both devices, pair the watch through Fast Pair or the Pixel Watch app—not only Android Bluetooth settings—and follow the prompts to finish account, orientation, Fitbit, Wallet, safety, and LTE setup.
This guide applies to the first-generation Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2. App labels can vary slightly by phone and app version.
Before you start
Check these requirements before turning on the watch:
- Pixel Watch or Pixel Watch 2 with its included charging cable
- A compatible Android phone—iPhones are not supported
- A Google Account and internet access through Wi-Fi or mobile data
- The latest Google Pixel Watch app from Google Play
- Bluetooth, location, and nearby-device access enabled on the phone
- A charged phone and watch
- Current phone, app, and watch software
Google Workspace accounts may require Device Management to be disabled before they can be used with Pixel Watch. Setup uses the Google Pixel Watch app; the old generic Wear OS app is not the current first-party setup route. Fitbit handles activity, exercise, sleep, and health-related features.

Google’s model-specific compatibility table lists these minimums:
| Watch | Google-listed Android minimum | iPhone support |
|---|---|---|
| Pixel Watch | Android 8.0 or newer | No |
| Pixel Watch 2 | Android 9.0 or newer | No |
These are basic compatibility requirements, not a guarantee that every feature will work. Fitbit compatibility requires Android 10 or newer, and app availability, Wallet, safety features, LTE, and carrier support vary by country, account, watch edition, and software version. Check Google’s compatibility and availability table before setup.
How to set up Pixel Watch or Pixel Watch 2
1. Charge and prepare both devices
Place the watch on its included charger and charge the phone sufficiently. Attach the preferred band, although you can adjust the fit later. On the phone, turn on Bluetooth and location, connect to Wi-Fi or mobile data, and update Android and the Google Pixel Watch app.
Allow the Pixel Watch app to find nearby devices. If the watch offers a firmware update during setup, install it rather than interrupting the process.

2. Turn on the watch
Press and hold the crown for about three seconds. Wait for the display to light up and the watch to finish starting. Keep it close to the phone.
Google’s official sequence is documented in its Pixel Watch setup guide.
3. Start pairing
Place the watch and phone within approximately 0.5 meters (1.6 feet). If Fast Pair is available, a setup prompt should appear on the phone. Tap it and follow the instructions.
If no prompt appears, open the Google Pixel Watch app manually, choose the option to add or set up a watch, and select the correct watch when it appears. Begin pairing from this app rather than pairing only through Android’s Bluetooth settings.

4. Confirm the pairing code
A code should appear on both devices. Compare the codes carefully, then tap Pair only if they match. The first connection and data transfer can take several minutes.
If the codes differ, restart the watch:
- Hold the crown for about three seconds.
- Scroll to and tap Restart.
- Wait for the watch to finish restarting.
- Bring it close to the phone and try again.
5. Sign in and accept the setup prompts
Sign in with a Google Account, verify your identity if prompted, accept Google’s terms, and select the country where the watch was purchased for warranty purposes. The exact prompts depend on the phone, account, region, and watch software.

6. Restore a backup or start fresh
If you are replacing a watch, select a listed backup when offered. This is usually the quickest route and may restore compatible apps or settings, although not every setting or app is guaranteed to return perfectly.
Choose Don’t restore for a clean setup. That is preferable when troubleshooting, setting up a used watch, or avoiding problematic settings from an earlier configuration. A clean setup is not the same as a factory reset unless the watch is already associated with another phone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches7. Choose your wrist and crown position
Select the left or right wrist and choose whether the crown faces left or right. These settings change the interface orientation, so select the position in which you actually wear the watch.
8. Finish optional setup
Choose Start using your watch to finish quickly or Set up more to configure additional services. Depending on the model, account, region, and software, you may see options for:
- Fitbit activity, exercise, sleep, and health tracking
- An LTE cellular plan
- Safety features
- Google Assistant or Gemini features
- A screen lock
- Google Wallet
- Additional apps from Google Play
The watch may update automatically as setup finishes. Afterward, open the Play Store on the watch and check for updates to Fitbit, Maps, Wallet, messaging, and other installed apps. Keep the Google Pixel Watch app updated on the phone.
9. Confirm that setup worked
Open the Google Pixel Watch app and check that it says Connected. The watch should reach its normal watch face or setup-complete screen. Time synchronization, notifications, and account services should begin working.

Set up Fitbit
Fitbit is more than an optional watch-pairing screen: it is the main route for Pixel Watch activity, exercise, sleep, and health tracking. Sign in or create the relevant Google Account, then grant the permissions required for syncing, notifications, and background activity.
Fitbit requires Android 10 or newer, a Google Account, and internet access. Some advanced Fitbit features require a paid subscription, but basic watch setup and standard features do not mean every reader needs Fitbit Premium. If you skip Fitbit during setup, you can configure it later through the watch and phone apps.
See Google’s current Fitbit compatibility requirements for regional qualifications.
Set up LTE and cellular service
Wi-Fi/Bluetooth models rely primarily on the phone or an available Wi-Fi network. LTE models can offer calls, texts, apps, music streaming, and emergency communication away from the phone after an eligible cellular plan is activated.

LTE is not automatically active because the watch has cellular hardware. Carrier support, plan eligibility, fees, country availability, roaming, and activation rules vary. For full talk, text, and data functionality, Google says the watch and Android companion phone must use the same carrier network. Verify support for the exact watch model—especially Pixel Watch 2—with the carrier before activation.
When LTE activation fails, check the watch edition, carrier, smartwatch plan, country, and any old eSIM profile. For Pixel Watch 2, international roaming also depends on carrier support for VoLTE and watch roaming and is region-limited. Google’s LTE activation guidance has the current process.
In the United States, Google lists AT&T/FirstNet, Cellcom, CSpire, Google Fi, T-Mobile, UScellular, and Verizon for Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2, but carrier terms can change. Do not assume that an offer shown for a newer Pixel Watch applies to Pixel Watch 2.
Recommended settings after setup
Use a screen lock
Set a PIN or pattern if you plan to use Google Wallet or want better protection when the watch is removed. The watch may require authentication again after it is taken off your wrist.
Configure Google Wallet
Add Wallet after pairing if it is available in your country and supported by your bank, card, account, and watch. Wallet availability is not universal, so a compatible watch does not guarantee that every card will work.
Review notifications and permissions
Choose which phone notifications reach the watch and allow the permissions needed by Fitbit and other apps. Manufacturer-specific battery restrictions on non-Pixel phones can stop background syncing, so remove the Pixel Watch app from aggressive battery-saving rules if notifications or connection status repeatedly fail.
Configure safety features
Review emergency and safety settings rather than assuming they work identically in every country or on every watch edition. Availability can depend on region, account, software, connectivity, and LTE service.

| Problem | First actions |
|---|---|
| Phone cannot find the watch | Charge and power on the watch; move both devices within about 0.5 meters; enable Bluetooth, location, Wi-Fi or mobile data, and nearby-device permission; update both devices and retry in the Pixel Watch app. |
| Pairing codes differ | Restart the watch and retry. Do not accept a code that does not match. |
| Setup is frozen | Keep the watch near the phone and on its charger if possible. Keep the phone online, avoid switching networks, and restart both devices if setup is visibly stuck for more than about 20 minutes. |
| Watch was paired to another phone | Use the old phone’s transfer or unpair option if available. Otherwise reset the watch before pairing it to the new phone. |
| Wi-Fi will not connect | Use a compatible 2.4GHz network that does not require a browser sign-in page. |
| LTE is unavailable | Check the LTE model, carrier, same-network requirement, smartwatch plan, eSIM, country, and roaming support. |
| PIN is forgotten | Factory-reset the watch. Re-pairing may require the previous PIN or Google Account credentials. |
If the phone cannot find the watch
- Confirm that the watch is charged, powered on, and close to the phone.
- Turn on Bluetooth, location, Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Allow nearby-device access for the Google Pixel Watch app.
- Update the phone, watch firmware, and Pixel Watch app.
- Restart both devices.
- Retry from inside the Pixel Watch app instead of relying only on the Fast Pair notification.
Use Google’s pairing troubleshooting guide if the watch remains undiscoverable.
If setup freezes
Keep both devices close, leave the watch on its charger if possible, and keep the phone connected to the internet. Avoid repeatedly tapping prompts while the app is transferring data or switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data. If the process remains frozen for more than approximately 20 minutes, restart both devices and retry after checking for updates.
If you are moving to a new phone
Keep the old phone available and updated if possible. Use the supported transfer or upgrade path in the Pixel Watch app before resorting to a reset. A normal Bluetooth “forget device” action may not be enough because the watch can remain associated with the previous phone.

If the old phone is unavailable or transfer fails, reset the watch and pair it with the new phone. A factory reset erases watch apps, settings, and watch-local data. Some Fitbit or Google Account information may remain synchronized elsewhere, but do not treat that as a guarantee that all watch settings will return.
How to reset and pair the watch again
Reset only after ordinary troubleshooting, or when preparing a used watch for a new owner. It is destructive.

Pixel Watch setup FAQs
Can Pixel Watch work with an iPhone?
No. The original Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 require compatible Android phones.
Does Pixel Watch 2 work with Samsung or Motorola phones?
It can work with compatible Android phones from other manufacturers, provided the Android version, Google Account, app, permissions, internet, and regional requirements are met. Bluetooth and background-process behavior can vary by manufacturer.
Can I skip Fitbit or Wallet?
Yes. Both can generally be configured later, subject to account, region, bank, device, and software availability.
Can I set up the watch without the old phone?
Yes, but if the watch is still associated with the old phone, you may need to reset it. That erases watch-local apps, settings, and data, and re-pairing may require prior account or PIN credentials.
Why can’t the watch connect to hotel or coffee-shop Wi-Fi?
Pixel Watch cannot use Wi-Fi networks that require a browser-based sign-in page. It also cannot connect to 5GHz networks according to Google’s troubleshooting guidance; try a compatible 2.4GHz network instead.
Does LTE require a monthly plan?
LTE functionality requires activation with an eligible carrier and plan, and additional fees may apply. A Wi-Fi/Bluetooth model does not need cellular activation.
