They are not three Pixel Watch 4 exclusives: earthquake alerts and the phone reminder were also reported for older Pixel Watch models, while the satellite feature is tied to Pixel Watch 4 LTE.
What the three Pixel Watch changes do
Earthquake alerts can reach the watch without a nearby phone
The March 2026 update was reported to add earthquake alerts to Pixel Watch 2, 3 and 4. The watch can deliver an alert directly even when it is not paired with a phone nearby. That can be useful if your phone is elsewhere, but it does not make the watch an earthquake prediction device: alerts are based on detected seismic activity, and the time available to react and the alert’s accuracy can vary.
Coverage does not establish a complete list of supported countries, languages, connection requirements or a precise settings path. Check whether alerts are available in your region and enabled on your watch. Treat them as an additional warning, not a replacement for local emergency alerts, preparedness guidance or your own plan. If an alert arrives, follow local safety advice and move to a safer location if possible.
Satellite SOS is expanding, not debuting
Pixel Watch 4 LTE launched with standalone emergency satellite communication. The March update was reported to expand availability into selected areas of Europe, Canada, Puerto Rico, Alaska and Hawaii. That list is not a guarantee of coverage in every part of those places: country rules, emergency-service support and network availability can affect access. Check Google’s current Pixel Watch feature and eligibility information before relying on it.

Satellite SOS is for contacting emergency services when cellular coverage is unavailable, not for routine messaging or general satellite internet. It requires the LTE Pixel Watch 4; do not assume a Wi-Fi-only model has the hardware or service. A clear view of the sky may be needed, and establishing a satellite connection can take longer than calling over cellular. Google’s Pixel Watch 4 announcement describes the watch’s emergency satellite capability as a way to contact emergency services and share the wearer’s location so help can be dispatched.
Phone-left-behind alerts help catch a forgotten phone
The watch can notify you when it separates from its paired phone. It may help when leaving a café, office, gym or car, but the feature was reported to be off by default, so look for its control in the watch or Pixel Watch app and enable it if available. The March coverage does not establish a definitive current menu path or whether every compatible Android phone supports it.

This is a separation reminder, not a phone-recovery service. Bluetooth range varies with walls, interference and other surroundings, so alerts can be delayed or triggered by a temporary connection drop. For locating a phone after it is missing, use Google’s device-finding tools rather than expecting the watch’s separation alert to track it.

Google’s Pixel Watch 4 specifications and model comparison help page are useful starting points for hardware and eligibility, but software features may also depend on region and staged rollout. How to check for the update and enable the phone alert
Menu labels can change, so use the watch’s current update screen rather than relying on an old path:
- Charge the watch and keep it connected to Wi-Fi or near its paired phone while checking for software.
- Open the Google Pixel Watch app on the phone and find the system or software update section. Check for an update, install it if offered, and allow the watch to restart.
- Review the watch’s safety and notification settings after updating. Confirm earthquake alerts are available where you live, and enable the phone-separation alert if it appears and you want it.
- Test the phone alert deliberately in a safe, controlled setting before relying on it. Do not test Satellite SOS as a routine connectivity check; reserve emergency communications for emergencies.
If a feature is missing
- Confirm the watch has installed the March 2026 update or a later update, then restart both watch and phone.
- Update the Google Pixel Watch app through Google Play and check Bluetooth, location and notification permissions where relevant.
- Check model and country eligibility. Satellite SOS requires Pixel Watch 4 LTE and is limited by regional service availability.
- If the phone-separation alert is absent, check its settings and test only at a reasonable distance; Bluetooth interference can affect behavior.
- If earthquake alerts are unavailable, regional support may be the reason. A staged rollout can also mean a feature does not appear immediately.
- For a satellite emergency connection, move outdoors with as unobstructed a view of the sky as circumstances allow. Do not delay contacting local emergency services by other means if available.
Some users reported missing SpO₂ and skin-temperature readings after the March update, according to PiunikaWeb’s March 9, 2026 report. Those are user reports, not evidence of a confirmed problem affecting all watches. If readings disappear, restart and check for a later update or Google support guidance.

Do these additions change the Pixel Watch 4’s value?
For current Pixel Watch 4 owners, the update is useful if you want earthquake notifications, a phone-separation reminder or, on LTE, emergency satellite access in a newly supported area. The biggest distinction is hardware: satellite SOS is the feature that can make the LTE model materially different for someone who spends time beyond cellular coverage. The other two additions are software conveniences reported on older Pixel Watch generations too, so they are not, by themselves, a reason for a Pixel Watch 3 owner to upgrade.
Frequent backcountry travelers who need dependable two-way off-grid communications may be better served by a dedicated satellite messenger; Satellite SOS is an emergency channel, not a substitute for a dedicated communicator. Buyers comparing watches should also account for LTE carrier activation and recurring service costs, which vary by carrier and country. Check current Google Store pricing and available models before buying; launch prices are not necessarily current prices.
