1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe modern Rado Anatom Automatic is an evolution of the original design, not a like-for-like reissue. In Fratello’s comparison, the reviewed modern R10202209 is larger and thicker than vintage ref. 152.0202.3, and trades the older watch’s quartz movement and integrated bracelet for an automatic calibre and contemporary materials. Choose the vintage model for its smaller proportions and period character; choose the modern one for an automatic movement, a shaped sapphire crystal and a current retail purchase.
Which references are being compared?
Rado dates the Anatom’s debut to 1983. The design returned in modern form in 2023, retaining its distinctive curved rectangular shape and shaped-crystal concept while changing its proportions, materials and movement. Rado describes the design history on its Anatom history page.
The direct comparison here is specific: Fratello’s June 2024 hands-on article examines modern ref. R10202209 alongside vintage Diastar Anatom ref. 152.0202.3. Rado’s current Swiss product page covers a different modern variant, ref. R10201319. Its specifications and CHF price below should not be transferred to R10202209.
How different are their sizes on the wrist?
| Reference | Width | Length | Thickness | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Modern R10202209 | 32.5 mm | 46.3 mm | 11.3 mm | Fratello’s stated measurements, June 2024 |
| Vintage 152.0202.3 | 28 mm | 35 mm | 6.9 mm | Fratello’s stated measurements, June 2024 |
The modern watch is substantially longer and thicker, with a case 4.5 mm wider. That gives it more wrist presence; the vintage reference is the more compact, slim option. Because the case curves, measurements alone cannot guarantee how either will fit a particular wrist. Fratello author Lex Stolk described the vintage watch as comfortable and found the modern watch’s curved shape and rubber strap easy to wear; those are his impressions, not a universal fit test.

Quartz or automatic: what changes in daily use?
Vintage 152.0202.3
The vintage example in Fratello’s comparison is quartz. It does not need winding to keep running, but its battery and service needs depend on the individual watch and its condition.
Modern R10202209 and R10201319
Fratello identifies Rado calibre R766 in the R10202209. Rado’s current page for the separate R10201319 also lists calibre R766, a 72-hour power reserve and a Nivachron hairspring. Those current-page specifications are confirmed for R10201319; do not assume every detail applies to another reference without checking its own listing.

Automatic winding is part of the appeal if you want a mechanical watch, but it brings a different ownership routine: when unworn beyond its reserve, it stops and needs resetting. Quartz prioritizes convenience; the automatic offers a mechanical movement and, for R10201319, the stated 72-hour reserve.
How do the case, crystal, and bracelet or strap differ?
The vintage watch’s bracelet is integrated into its design, contributing to the uninterrupted period look. Fratello highlights this integration alongside the gadroon pattern on the vintage dial. The modern model reinterprets the form with updated materials and a separate rubber strap rather than reproducing the older construction.

For current ref. R10201319, Rado specifies ceramic, steel/PVD, sapphire and rubber components. Its shaped sapphire crystal continues a defining feature of the Anatom concept. These material details belong to R10201319’s official product page, not automatically to the comparison’s R10202209.
The surface treatment also distinguishes the two: the vintage example has the characteristic gadroon dial pattern, while the reviewed modern watch uses a different dial treatment. The result is a revival that keeps the unusual case silhouette but does not attempt to duplicate every visual detail of the original.

What should you choose?
- Choose the vintage Diastar Anatom 152.0202.3 if you want the smaller, thinner proportions, quartz practicality, integrated-bracelet look and period-specific dial character.
- Choose a modern Anatom Automatic if you want the larger presence, an automatic movement, shaped sapphire and contemporary materials. Check the exact reference, since specifications, strap, dial and price differ across variants.
For a vintage purchase, assess the actual watch rather than relying on the reference alone: inspect case and bracelet condition, ask about service and battery history, and confirm that the movement and all components are as represented by the seller. Availability and condition vary from one second-hand example to another.
