The Rado Captain Cook is a family of watches, not one fixed specification: case size, materials, movement, water resistance and strap or bracelet depend on the reference. For a concrete comparison, Rado’s US pages list a 42 mm steel-and-ceramic model, R32105203, and a 39 mm stainless-steel model, R32224203; a separate 42 mm bronze model is R32504407. Compare the reference number—not just “Captain Cook”—before buying.

Which Rado Captain Cook size should you choose?

Rado’s cited catalog includes 37 mm, 39 mm and 42 mm case sizes. The 39 mm R32224203 product page describes that model as complementing the 37 mm and 42 mm versions, but the cited pages do not establish a universal wrist-size recommendation. Diameter alone also does not describe how a watch wears: thickness, case shape, bracelet or strap, and your own fit preference matter.

The two current US product examples below illustrate why size comparisons should be made by reference. Dimensions and specifications are Rado’s, and the listed US prices were shown on the cited pages when retrieved on October 12, 2026; prices and availability can change.

How to assess 39 mm versus 42 mm

  • Try each size if possible, ideally on the bracelet or strap configuration you would wear. A smaller diameter does not by itself guarantee a better fit.
  • Check thickness and overall proportions alongside diameter. Rado lists the 42 mm R32105203 at 12.3 mm thick; the cited 39 mm page does not state thickness.
  • Compare the complete reference and configuration. Bracelet design, case materials and movement details can differ even when two watches belong to the same collection.

What materials are used in Captain Cook watches?

Materials are reference-specific. Rado describes stainless steel and high-tech ceramic for the 42 mm R32105203; the 39 mm R32224203 has a stainless-steel case and a blue high-tech-ceramic bezel insert. The bronze R32504407 is a distinct 42 mm configuration whose listed materials include bronze, high-tech ceramic and titanium.

The 42 mm bronze R32504407

Rado’s US page lists an R763 automatic movement with an 80-hour power reserve and a red fabric strap with a bronze buckle. Those details describe R32504407, not every bronze Captain Cook. Confirm the full reference and included strap when comparing listings.

Which movement does a Rado Captain Cook use?

There is no single movement specification to apply to every Captain Cook. Rado’s cited current examples R32105203, R32224203 and R32504407 list the automatic R763 caliber. The R32105203 and bronze R32504407 pages state an 80-hour power reserve; the cited R32224203 page does not state its reserve. The R32105203 and R32224203 pages also list a Nivachron hairspring, while the bronze page’s cited specifications do not establish that detail.

Older press materials describe different references and movement wording. Rado’s press-release 42 mm steel model lists ETA C07.611 with up to 80 hours of reserve; its earlier 42 mm bronze press-release model lists ETA C07 with up to 80 hours. These are historical model specifications, not evidence that all Captain Cook watches share that caliber or reserve.

How much water resistance does a Captain Cook have?

Ratings vary by reference. Rado’s current US page for the 39 mm R32224203 states 30 bar (300 m). An older Rado press release for a 42 mm steel model states 20 bar (200 m), while the cited bronze press release states 30 bar (300 m). Do not transfer one model’s rating to another; check the specifications for the exact reference you are considering.

What to check before buying a Captain Cook

  1. Match the reference number. Check the listing, warranty paperwork and watch against the exact Rado reference; collection names alone are not enough to identify the specifications.
  2. Verify the full fit and configuration. Compare diameter, thickness, case and bezel materials, and whether the watch comes on a bracelet or strap. If weight matters to you, look for a figure for that exact reference; it is not stated on the cited pages above.
  3. Confirm movement and rating by model. Read the product specification for the caliber, stated power reserve and water-resistance rating rather than assuming these carry across the collection.
  4. Check the purchase terms. Confirm the seller, condition, warranty coverage and exactly which strap or bracelet is included. Prices and catalog status can change, so verify the live listing in your market before purchase.
